Living Our Discipleship: Stewardship - A Way of Life MAY 2007 Living a life of stewardship is a disciple’s response to God’s gracious love and mercy through Jesus Christ. Stewardship has many faces and our parish newsletters reveal the visible face of stewardship, namely the people right here at St. Mary Magdalene: loving, serving, celebrating, caring, reaching out to those in need, attending mass, living the life of a follower of Jesus right here in our midst. It is important not to think about stewardship as a vague idea but rather a way of life. A steward’s way of life isn’t someone else’s way of life, but it is our way of life, it is your way of life. To be a steward means that God is first in our life. God and what God asks of us is not last on our list, but rather first on our list. Being a steward means we have to make choices. We need to set priorities. Think about what is most important in your life. What values guide your life? Do we take seriously the mission of the mass to “go forth to love and serve the Lord?” Do we look at the church as a “store” that we come to when we need something? Or rather do we see ourselves as the church, a people set apart for God’s work, for Jesus’ work, for the work of the Holy Spirit? These are tough questions, but we need to consider them. There is a cute message that appears on church signs all over the country: Church is only ch __ __ ch when U R a part of it. Are you? We have to remember that being a part of something is not receiving something but offering something. Perhaps that is why we teach our children that it is “better to give than receive.” Because the truth is when we give we do receive. At mass, when we give God thanks and praise for all that we have, then in return God gives us Jesus Christ, God gives us salvation. It is not something we earn or deserve, but it is God’s gift to us in love. Giving and receiving, taking and eating, loving and serving is how we live our stewardship as a disciple. We are inviting you to give and receive, to take and eat and to love and serve at Mass every weekend. We invite you to live your discipleship and be a good steward at our 16 th Annual Parish Festival. We invite you to help us to throw a huge party not only for St. Mary Magdalene Parish, but for the Cities of Willowick and Eastlake along with our neighboring parishes and cities. The Christian Steward - Reflection Questions

STEWARDSHIP PRAYEROh Lord, giver of life and source of our freedom, we are reminded by the Psalmist

that Yours is “the earth and its fullness; the world and those who dwell in it.”We know that it is from Your hand that we have received all we have and are and will be.

Gracious and loving God, we understand that You call us to be the stewards ofYour abundance, the caretakers of all You have entrusted to us.

Help us always to use Your gifts wisely and teach us to share them generously.May our faithful stewardship bear witness to the one love of Christ in our lives.

We pray with grateful hearts, in Jesus’ name. Amen

Living a life of stewardship is a disciple’s response to God’s gracious love and mercy through Jesus Christ.

Or rather do we see ourselves as the church, a people set apart

for God’s work, for Jesus’ work, for the work of the Holy Spirit? These are tough questions, but we need to consider them.

There is a cute message that appears on church signs all over the country: Church is only ch __ __ ch when U R a part of it. Are you? We have to remember that being a part of something is not receiving something but offering something. Perhaps that is why we teach our children that it is “better to give than receive.” Because the truth is when we give we do receive. The disciples were fishing by the Sea of Tiberias. They cast their nets out and caught nothing. When it was dawn, Jesus was standing on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, “Children, have you caught anything to eat?” They answered him, “No.” So he said to them, “Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something.” So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in because of the number of fish. So the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he tucked in his garment, for he was lightly clad, and jumped into the sea. The other disciples came in the boat, for they were not far from the shore, only about a hundred yards, dragging the net with the fish. When they climbed out on shore, they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it and bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you just caught.” So Simon Peter went over and dragged the net ashore full of one hundred fifty-three large fish. Even though there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come, have breakfast.” And none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” Because they realized it was the Lord. Jesus came over and took the bread and gave it to them and in a like manner the fish. This was now the third time Jesus was revealed to his disciples after being raised from the dead.

Do we see Jesus in our daily work, in the empty and the full times? When we hear the call of Jesus, do we listen and act quickly? How do we share with others the fullness of the work in our lives? How often do we see the presence of God in our everyday lives?

Spring is here and so are the preparations for St. Mary Magdalene Homecoming Festival. We have much planned already and things are starting to happen.

As always the festival is intended to be:

WE ARE WORkING HARD TO ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS AND WE NEED YOUR HELP.

You will notice that they are not assembled in books this year, they are on sheets. Some parishes have moved to this format and we thought that the perforated sheets are easier

to handle and to distribute. The tickets in this format are also less expensive to print and do not need to be stapled together and then unstapled later after they are sold.

TICkETS ARE $1 EACH OR 6 FOR $5. AN ENTIRE SHEET OF TICkETS IS $20.

STEWARDSHIP PRAYEROh Lord, giver of life and source of our freedom, we are reminded by the Psalmist

Gracious and loving God, we understand that You call us to be the stewards ofYour abundance, the caretakers of all You have entrusted to us.
