I am not a great fan of New Year’s Resolutions. Usual-
ly they involve making unrealistic goals and then not being
able to fulfil them within a matter of weeks. I do, however,
think it is important to make a realistic look at where we are
in life. That is the beginning of recognizing if our actions
line up with our life goals and the Christian faith we profess.
As we pause a few moments to become reflective about
our life and discern what changes might need to be made, I
wonder if most Christians contemplate what God has in
mind for them. Are we living according to the Word of God
out of love and intimacy with Christ and others? What might
we already acknowledge needs to change or be eliminated
from our life? What actions need to be implemented for pos-
itive change to occur?
Next, enter into a time of prayer and solitude to listen for guidance and direction from the Lord. This step requires solitude away from interruptions. It might be a good thing to have a note pad handy to write down thoughts that drift into your consciousness. At the conclusion of your listening and reflecting time, enter into a time of personal prayer but don’t rush through it. Confess what needs to be confessed. What have you discerned about yourself that opposes the will of God from prevailing in your life?

Open Holy Communion
Huntington Trinity United Methodist Church practices Open Holy Communion. All are welcome to attend our worship services and participate in Holy Communion. The following are upcoming worship service dates and times with Holy Communion:
Sunday, January 5, 2020 10:00 a.m.
Sunday, February 2, 2020 10:00 a.m.
Do you sense brokenness and a need to be healed from
past experiences so that you can move forward? Ask the
Lord to intercede and heal those memories and issues.
Lastly, are there things that you need to take action on,
either to change yourself within or to accomplish a purpose
you have discerned God calling you to? Commit these
areas to the Lord and ask that His sovereignty and power
prevail in you so that you can be faithful with what you have
discerned. Yield and submit your life to the Lordship of
Christ. Lastly, rejoice in praise and worship! Let the Lord
know the gratitude you have for experiencing His guiding
comfort and direction upon and within your life. Now, keep
your eyes fixed on Christ so that you have faith in Him and
what He is able to do rather than in the frailty of your human
effort. It is here that you experience fullness of the glory of
the Lord.
On January 11, your leadership team and some lay
members will venture to the Retreat Center in North Web-
ster. This gathering is to worship and discern together the
vision God has for Trinity United Methodist Church. Our
intention is to have a clearer vision of our short term and
long term goals regarding the ministry and mission of the
church. Please pray for us in advance of this day, and pray
for us specifically on that day all throughout the day. Uplift
us and saturate this day in prayer so that we can discern
clearly the direction we should take. Thank you!
Pastor Lois

hospital or are grieving and could use

group isn’t to be confused with our

ministry, please contact:

Well another Christmas has come and gone. Wow, what a show! George and Joni Killian knocked it out of the park for us this year! What a piano duet we were graced with when Joni and Cindy Romano sat down to play. We hope that everyone who joined us that day enjoyed it as much as we did, although the bar has been set pretty high for anything we do in the future. Joni’s personal testimony during the show made us all want to sing those old Christmas carols for all the glory of God. How blessed we were to have them. Thank you Joni, George and Cindy for your amazing works of talent. We would like to say thank you to everyone who contributed to the 2019 Christmas tea. Whether you contributed by hard work, sweets, or attendance we want you to know that without you all, we couldn’t continue this tradition. At our December meeting, Myrna let us know that the UMW will be present at the 2020 general conference and bringing several piec-es of legislation to be included in the Book of Resolutions including observing Children’s Sabbath, a day to celebrate the sacredness of children, and protecting the girl child as well as protecting voting rights and the status of women globally. This months Response magazine reminds us that the work of the UMW can be seen not only at the 2020 conference, “but in local churches and communi-ties around the world, because the church cannot make disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world without women organized for mission.” The UMW will continue the legacy of our foremothers “until poverty, violence, inequality, racism and preventable deaths cease, until women and children are no longer marginalized, until we live in a world in which all thrive!” And you thought we were just having a social club! Jan ended our meeting with a devotion on giving gifts. She im-plored us to exalt the notion of giving to others. It should be a joy to give to someone who may not be able to ever give back, and re-minded us that the Bible commands of us do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing so that your giving is done in secret. We finished with prayers for those on our prayer request list. Lastly, our own Linda McDonald will be stepping down as president of the women’s group. Thank you Linda for all the terrific leader-ship you gave and we will look forward to Myrna Neff being our in-coming president when we resume our meetings in February. Several of the women have opted to try new officer positions in an effort to broaden their horizons. Please think of us in love as we take on our new responsibilities and try to do them as well as the woman before us. As always, we would like to extend a warm invi-tation to any woman wishing to become part of our education and fight for missions around the globe.

Retreat Center Update
From Don Mathias
It has been a trying year for the Retreat Center, but with God’s
grace, we are continuing as usual.
• In February, a water line burst, flooding the crawl space. To
repair this, a company came in and put drainage in the crawl
space with two sump pumps.
• The humidity level in the lower level has been too high. We
have put two dehumidifiers in the lower level. We also put a
large dehumidifier in the crawl space. With that said, we have
the humidity level under control.
• Also while working on the flooding, we found out the building is
sitting on an artesian well. Through a lot of work with a well
company, it is now under control.
• We put in our own pier for our guests to use.
• We hired new care takers Ryan & Dani Kirdorffer, a wonderful
Christian couple with a lot of experience on upkeep of the build-
ing.
• The rentals for 2019 have been at a good level. Lee Ann re-
ported that rentals are already up for 2020.
For 2020:
Blinds will go in the windows on the main level. Some of the floors
in front of the showers will need to be replaced. We also would like
to replace the parking lot railing.
For the future:
We would like to replace the decking on both levels and include
outside steps. We also would like to replace the roof (it is 20 years
old).
Thank you for the prayers as we continue to make this a wonderful
place for retreats and family gatherings!

WOW! (Wild for

Wednesdays)
WOW on Wednesday nights will not be meeting in January. Watch for new information about the February schedule. We are currently looking for volun-teers to take over the duty of leader for the Wednesday night group. If you could commit to one night each month, please contact Barb Conwell.
Happy New Year! We are excited for school to be back in session on
Wednesday, January 8. Our month promises to be full of fun! The
children will have “Christmas Show and Tell”, and will be learning the
letters J, K, L, and M throughout the month. The children will learn
about “Bubbleology”. We love science! Everyone will be wearing their
favorite warm pajamas to school on Wednesday, January 29 for our
annual “Pajama Party”. Mrs. Allen’s 5 day class will be “traveling” to
Australia on Thursday, January 30. We are very excited that Science
Central will be visiting the preschool on Friday, January 31!
There are so many wonderful people we would like to thank for helping
make our Christmas program a success! Special thanks to Pastor Lois
for our prayer before our Christmas program. Special thanks to Dave
Stinson for helping with our music, and by sharing his time to help with
our rehearsals. Special thanks to Caroline Runyan, Alice Stickler, and
Deb Schnepp for serving refreshments at our Christmas Open House
following the program. Many thanks to Liz Godts for helping prepare
the sanctuary for our many guests! Trinity Preschool is very blessed to
have so many amazing and supportive people help with this special
ministry!
Special thanks to Pastor Lois for the special Christmas gift that was
given to each preschooler, and for sharing the Bible with the children as
we gather together for Chapel each month. We are richly blessed!
It is almost that time of year for our annual Otis Spunkmeyer cookie
dough fundraiser! Look for information in your February CHIMES.
Sales will begin February 1.
Preschool sends best wishes to all for a happy, healthy New Year!
Blessings!

Youth Group Info For all Middle School and High School students * Sunday nights from 6 -7:30 PM
We are getting into a routine with our Sunday night meetings. We’ve had some extra
activities, including buying gifts for a child from the Angel Tree. We also had a fun
Christmas Movie Night! We watched the movie Elf, played games and ate.
Our Christmas attire was very festive too!
Stay tuned for what 2020 brings!

Stewardship Moment
It’s that time again...New Year resolutions. Are you the type who takes time to see how you could better yourself for the upcoming year? Is it exercising, time management, a new Bible study, getting out of debt? We had a fantastic Stewardship campaign in November and as we move
forward in 2020 I believe our congregation understands the vision of TUMC in down-town Huntington. Even though we all probably need some self improvement, here is a paradigm shift from a recent sermon I listened to. Instead of focusing on how can I improve ME, why not see what I could DO, around me, to make someone else’s life better. What a great way to steward your time and talents for Jesus this year! One of my favorite OT books is the story of Nehemiah. Chapter 1 ends with ‘I was cupbearer for the King.’ Nehemiah had influence and prestige right where he was, but God laid it on his heart to go back to Jerusalem and oversee the rebuilding of that city. Andy Stanley stated, “If you really want to become a better person, do something to make the world a better place.” I am excited to see where Jesus will lead me in 2020, how about you?
Blessings
Tom Matheny
Free Lunch Ministry
We would like to thank everyone that helped
with the December 7th Free Lunch Ministry.
Randy & Cindy Bellamy, Barb Conwell,
Brenda Finney, Phyllis Fordyce, Jean Hayden,
Margaret Hollowell, Johanna Lange, Jan Mathias,
Dawn Miller, Jim & Bev Shivley, & Gloria Wilson.
We served wonderful leftovers from the Thanksgiving
meal this month. Jello salads, pie, pumpkin rolls and
turkey, that was turned into hot turkey sandwiches!
We served 46 persons. A big thank you to Melissa
(McBride) Barrett who donated specialty fudge to our
lunch. All are encouraged to come and spend time in
ministry and fellowship, to those who are being
served.
Look for sign up sheets in Ball Lounge to volunteer
your help, or provide food for our Fall/Winter Free
Lunch program which runs from October through
March.
Our next Free Lunch will be: Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Downstairs at Trinity, in Epworth Hall.
A big thank you to the Trinity congregation who
supported the Angel Tree Program this year! 27
children received gifts from their incarcerated
parent from Trinity because of you. The parent was
sent an informative letter letting them know we are
praying for them, and a gift with their message was
delivered to their child from committee. Your gener-
osity has once again made this mission a success.
Also, Trinity was asked to deliver gifts from Ron &
Sarah Farmer. Ron is an pastor with Real
Community Covenant Church. Sarah is an
assistant professor at Indiana Wesleyan University
in Marion. It was Sarah’s students that purchased
the gifts. They served 36 children.
The committee would also like to thank Carla Mac-
Donald, Jack Heller of HU, and Jim and Gloria
Wilson for helping. The Farmer’s send a big prayer-
ful thank you to all!
Please keep these families in your prayers.
God Bless You!
