I would like to take this opportunity to

officially welcome all our new children and

parents to the Children’s Workshop family.

Over the last two weeks I have watched

how all the children are settling in well and

there are very few tears.

Thanks to all the parents that attended our

parent evening, we hope to see you and

more parents at our next evening in the

second term.

We had our first class social last Friday,

and had a great turn out. A reminder that

the Chichester campus social is next Friday.

This is a great time to meet your children’s

friends and their parents. Socialising is such

an important part of our children’s devel-

opment.

With the mention of FAMILY FUNDAY

just seven weeks away, we are getting very

excited. We urge you to start clearing out

cupboards to see what you can donate for

our sale items. Next week the drive is to

get white elephant items. These are items

are any new or used bric a brac or un-

wanted gifts, toys, clothes, books, kitchen

items, plants etc.

You would have received a donation letter

in for approaching companies for any auc-

tion items (these must be unused). These

can be large or small items from towels, to

body products, wines, framed art work,

mirrors, stationary hampers, hair or beauty

hampers or items that we can make up

hampers, vouchers, weekends away, sport-

ing products. Anything—use your imagina-

tion ! Please approach friends, neighbours

and bosses to see what they can donate. If

you need more donation letters from the

school please ask Ilhaam or we can email

them to you.

The wish list on the pledge form also gives

us an idea on how you want to see money

spent on the school.

We too have a wish list—here are a few:

Upgrade Agapanthus and Ladybird

New floor for Blue Iris classroom

More upgrades in Chichester play-

The teacher's task is

no small or easy one!

He has to prepare a

huge amount of

knowledge to satisfy

the child's mental

hunger, and she is

not, like the ordinary

teacher, limited by a

syllabus.

Creative Clay

Hello parents of 2015!

A quick note to say that I’m much recovered and

feeling better and I apologise for missing parent’s

evening.

For those that don’t know, I offer an extra mural

called ‘Kids Clay’.

It’s pottery and more, it’s fun and educational, it’s

good for hands, minds and bodies!

My demo lesson will happen at the Belvedere

campus this Monday 9th February.

If you would like to sign up your child please get

application forms from the office.

Thank You

Heidi

We are excited to be able to offer parents the opportunity .

Look out for the permission slips that will be sent out this week in your child’s

pocket and then will be done at the end of February.

SPEECH- AND LANGUAGE SCREENING

Speech and language development is considered a useful indicator of your child’s overall development and cognitive ability which is related to

school success. It is therefore, my pleasure to inform you that we will be doing a Speech- and Language screening at your child’s school.

The aim of a Speech-, Language- and Auditory Processing screening:

A speech screening is a procedure where the Speech Therapist does a few simplified tests on your child to determine if he/she is at risk of having a disability/delay in speech-, language-, auditory processing- and/or hearing. Early identification of such problems is optimal as early

intervention helps prevent possible scholastic difficulties caused by the problem.

The screening procedure takes place at school. Children older than 3 years can be screened at a cost of R100.00 that can be sent to school

with the completed consent letter. A summary report with the screening results will be provided with the appropriate referrals made. A copy of this report will be provided to your child’s school, as well as the parent(s). If you have a child younger than 3 years and are worried about his/

her speech development, please feel free to contact me for advice or to make arrangements for an evaluation.

The MySchool MyVillage My-

Planet fundraising programme

is one of South Africa’s biggest

community programmes. We

raise funds for schools, charities and environmental

organisations through a card system that allows support-

ers to raise funds for their beneficiary (school or charity)

every time they shop at our partner stores. Partners make

a contribution, on behalf of the supporter/cardholder, to-

wards the beneficiary they have selected. The system al-

lows cardholders to make a difference to a worthy

cause without it costing them a cent! The MySchool

MyVillage MyPlanet programme raises more than R4 mil-

lion per month for the schools, charities, animal welfare

and environmental organisations it supports.

Application forms will be sent home/obtained in the
