The Children’s Heart Center (CHC) at Holtz Children’s Hospital is an internationally respected center for the comprehensive care of children and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. As faculty members of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, our specialists are at the forefront of ground-breaking medical research.

Our expertise goes beyond the practice of general pediatric cardiology and extends to all subspecialty fields including catheter based interventions, heart failure, transplant and electrophysiology. Our surgical program cares for all patients and specializes in the care of high-risk neonates.

We are the only center in South Florida that offers the full spectrum of state-of-the-art cardiac services for babies in the womb, newborns, children and adults with congenital disease. Our services include:

FAMILY-CENTERED CARE

The services provided at the Children’s Heart Center focus on quality of life in children with congenital heart disease. In our program, children always come first, and the care delivered keeps the family very well integrated with the healing process (family-centered care).

Nurses and social workers play integral roles in the Children’s Heart Center team. They are sensitive to the stresses imposed on a family by congenital heart disease and work with physicians and families to ensure care is efficient, informative and delivered with a warm, personal touch.

The nurse liaison and nurse managers coordinate inpatient and outpatient care, assuring that all needed tests, consultations, hospital appointments and admissions are scheduled in an efficient manner. The nurse practitioners participate in the medical management of the patients while they are in the hospital and help to ensure continuity of care. They are involved in the management of immediate post-operative patients and continue to provide quality care until the children are able to go home with their parents.

Once the child is at home, the nursing staff continues to maintain contact with our patients to provide follow up care at the most convenient center location. We are always available for parents’ questions and concerns.

Jackson Memorial Hospital/Holtz Children’s Hospital was ranked #1 among 65 South Florida hospitals in US News and World Report in 2011. The pediatric cardiology and heart surgery program was also ranked amongst the elite programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report in 2011.
