A Message from Your Church Council President

A Message from Your Church Council President Our Council has determined that it is wiser and safer that we re-main closed through much of June. We will continue to review this regularly and keep you updated. As we move into summer, Council is forming a task force on reopening and will be meeting, via Zoom, to discuss our options for resumption of services in the Nave. If anyone has concerns or suggestions that you wish us to consider, please contact me. ( [email protected] 717-668-5988) The HVAC work resumed on May 1. It is expected to be com-pleted the second week of June and the project has stayed with-in budget. This is good news! Council met, via Zoom, on May 20 and voted to approve the con-tract and move ahead with the organ restoration project. I ap-preciate the patience of all who have provided support for this project and anxiously awaited its commencement. Work is ex-pected to begin in October according to Peragallo’s schedule. The application to the Small Business Administration Paycheck Protection Program was approved and we have received the $120,000 loan/grant. Although the loan forgiveness guidelines are still being developed, it is expected that most, if not all, of that amount will be forgiven and convert to a grant. This has been a welcome boost to our finances during this difficult time. The search committee for a Director of Music presented a candi-date to Council, Scott Crowne, and Council voted to hire him ef-fective July 1, 2020. He will be providing an introduction to be included in this newsletter. We are delighted to welcome Dr. Crowne. I want to again thank Pastor Watt and Katie Schriver for the vide-otaping of the lessons and sermons. Also, a thank you to all of you for your prayers, offerings and ongoing support. We pray for the health and safety of all. In Christ, Barbara Nixon

New Director of Music

Our search committee has hired a Director of Music. Dr. Scott Crowne currently plays the organ for Elizabeth Seton Parish in Mechanicsburg. Dr. Crowne will stay there through the month and begin the first Sun-day in July at CLC—assuming we’ll have in

-person worship by then. Below, Dr. Crowne provided a “Hello!” letter about himself . Hello, Christ Lutheran Church! I am thrilled to be coming on as your new director of music this summer. Pastor Watt asked me to introduce myself to you a bit. I grew up in Maryland in the sub-urbs of Washington DC. I studied at Catholic University and at the University of Maryland, where I received my Doctor of Musi-cal Arts degree in Collaborative Piano in 2007. Since then, I have been fortunate to be on the faculty of the Sunderman Con-servatory of Music at Gettysburg College as a staff pianist and vocal coach. In addition to my work at the college, I have per-formed across the US as well as in Europe as a pianist and con-ductor. I also compose, edit, and write about music as well. I have worked in music ministry for over 25 years in Lutheran and Roman Catholic congregations. There is such a marvelous spiritual energy in congregations sharing worship with their pray-ers and music. I believe a great deal of this energy informs my performing both in and out of the church. My family and I have lived in York now for four years. My wife Leah is an opera singer, voice teacher, and musical entrepre-neur. She is the founder and artistic director of Opera Susque-hanna, centered here in town. We have two very energetic daughters, Aivleen and Veronica.

I look forward to serving you as your music minister and getting to know all of you in the congregation!

Scott Crowne

Thank You to Christine Kates Our Interim Director of Music

Since mid-September, Christine Kates has graciously and ably served as our Interim Director of Music—offering prel-udes and postludes, accompanying hymns, and leading us in the musical portions of the liturgy. Additionally, she has directed our Adult Choir. What a blessing she has been for all of us! She and her family are now moving to northern Virginia, where her husband has been working for the past year. Since worship services on the church campus remain sus-pended, obviously we will be unable in person to thank her and bid her farewell. That said, we can nevertheless show our gratitude through thank-you cards and other notes of appreciation. So you’re invited to mail such cards and notes to the church address, drop them off at the office or—if you pre-fer—send email cards (again to the church) to express your thanks to Christine. They will then be forwarded to her.

Parish Picnic

In consideration of the age range and that there will be a no more than 25 persons with the 6ft radius to consider, Manchester Township office has been contacted and this year’s picnic has been cancelled. The township has moved our reservation to next year on June 19th, 2021

Sunday Worship at Home

Although “onsite” worship has been cancelled at least June 7 and June 14, weekly sermons and prayers are available in two formats. First, in printed form, either by e-mail or in printed form through the mail. A second form of access is via weekly video recordings on Facebook (www.facebook.com/christlutheranyork) and on the Christ Lutheran Church website (https://christlutheranyork.org). Our sincere thanks to Cameron Harrison for recording the videos, to Katie Schriver for posting them on Facebook, and to our webmaster, Jack Vlazny, for posting them on our website!

Congratulations Due On June 7th, church member and retired pastor, the Rev. Raymond Sistek, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of his ordination. We will publicly recognize hem soon after wor-ship services resume at the church. Meanwhile, Pastor Sistek, congratulations!

Congratulations to the following young people of our con-gregation on their graduations from High School and Col-lege:

High School; Ryan Donner, Tori Ebersold, Lela Eppley, Nathan Knight-Nixon, Ben Thornsberry.

College; Sarah Donner, Kate Risser, Ben Schlenker

We wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
