But before we begin, some background on the Chateau

Galliard. Construction Started in 1196,

In what is now Upper Normany, France,

It was built by Richard the Lionheart, who was simultaneously King of England and feudal Duke of Normandy. The castle was expensive to build, but the majority of the work was done in an unusually

short time, taking only two years.

The castle changed hands several times but was eventually

captured and held by the French.

The castle was almost

unbeatable because it was built 90 meters above the Seine

River, for a tactical

advantage.

“Château Gaillard consists of three baileys—an inner, a middle, and an outer with the main entrance to the castle.

Plus a keep, also called a donjon, in the inner-bailey.

The baileys, which were separated by rock-cut ditches,

housed the castle's stables, workshops, and storage facilities.”

That’s a long walk for someone trying to take over the castle, or maybe just merchant delivering goods.

All the Walkways were protected by Towers, that archers would guard. All night and all day.

You weren’t getting through unless you were invited.

That’s my tour of the Chateau Galliard.
