CURRENT THERAPEUTIC RESEARCH ® VOL. 61, NO. 12, DECEMBER2000 Editorial The Charles R. Ream, MD, Award for Excellence Every article published in Current Therapeutic Research ® contributes to the storehouse of knowledge. It may help guide care by examining inno- vative therapies or by testing old theories. It may stimulate and guide new basic and applied research. In fact, many groundbreaking papers initially confuse the situation, before further research clarifies it. Naturally, we at the journal do not claim infallibility or guarantee that a published article will help you immediately. Authors must arrange a piece of raw research into a readable manuscript. We do our part by en- suring that readers know why the investigators undertook the project, what they did, how it turned out, and finally, what it all means. My expe- rience in research and publishing reminds me of putting together a jigsaw puzzle without knowing what the finished picture looks like. Still, we persevere. Of course, publication helps create a person's reputation. It guaran- tees that his or her work will provide information and, potentially, influ- ence others. We at Current Therapeutic Research ® believe that good re- search is its own reward, but because it can alter others' actions, outstanding investigation should be recognized. As a measure of our com- mitment to the authors of articles in Current Therapeutic Research ® , the Editorial Board will be selecting 1 paper from those published during the year and confer on its lead author the Charles R. Ream, MD, Award for Excellence. Dr. Ream is Editor Emeritus of the journal. His work and life epitomize the award's title. The award-winning author will be presented with a small crystal globe as an emblem of the journal's international authors and readers. The award for 2000 will be announced in the March 2001 issue.
