WEEKLY UPDATE June 9, 2017

From the desk of the Principal:

The character education word of the month is Generosity

Only six days of school left until we say goodbye to the Class of 2017. I reminded the students at Senior Awards Night on Wednesday of how we say at every freshman orientation that you have to “begin with the end in mind” because the time goes so fast. Over $17 million dollars in scholarships were recognized on Wednesday night as well as the Principal Awards in each content area and attendance. Mrs. Duffy from Guidance did an exceptional job organizing and hosting the event. Also instrumental in the success of the evening was our auditorium coordinator Mr. House and EHT-TV Station Manager Mrs. Mullen who created a wonderful video of all the students receiving awards during the evening. Yesterday, all the student recipients throughout the year were treated to an end-of-year social with games, food, and prizes out at the Field House. Thanks to Ms. Brady, Mr. Passante, and Mr. Lesser and their committee for planning such a great celebration.

Congratulations to Mrs. Delaney and Mr. House and their Sustainability and Environmental Science classes on receiving the Eco-Schools Award. The award was appropriately presented in the garden that the classes tend to throughout the year located beyond the outfield fence of the baseball field. Career and Technology Education Students Explore Technology and Aviation

Federal Aviation and Administration STEM DAY

Twenty EHT high school career and technical education students participated in the Federal Aviation and Administration STEM Day in May 2017. The students were given an overview of multiple departments and the types of projects that individuals in each department work on. The presenters shared each of their college majors, and it was interesting to see the variety of degrees that each employee held. It was an eye opener for our students to see that there were more than just Computer Scientist working there. Employed were Engineers, Physicist, Chemists, Graphic Designers, Mathematicians, and more. The students were impressed to see all of the intricate details that it takes to ensure the safety of all citizens before, during, and after a private or commercial flight.

Teen Tech Conference at Stockton University

Did you know that women are underrepresented in many science and engineering occupations? Well, on Tuesday, May 23rd, twenty female students went to TeenTech at Stockton University to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Students were invited to engage in laboratory, engineering, and math workshops giving them confidence-building experiences in a real college setting. In the CSI workshop, students had to solve a homicide using evidence and critical thinking skills. Students also explored the neurosciences through a workshop titled "Brain Games" in which they played games developed by graduate students at Stockton University. As educators, we can encourage our female students to enter into these STEM careers by providing positive role models and hands-on experiences that can build their confidence.

Have a great weekend, Terry

VARSITY SOFTBALL

*** Overall record 23-1

The Eagles Softball team made EHT history defeating North

Hunterdon 2-1 and brought home EHT’s 1st Softball STATE

CHAMPIONSHIP. The Eagles got off to a rough start giving

up a leadoff triple, but battled back out of a bases loaded 1st

inning jam only giving up one run. Tori Szrom held her poise on

the mound, battled back and earned the victory in the circle.

Later in the top of the 6th inning Tori started a two out rally

and Ella Glenn had a triple to drive in Peyton McGowan who was

the runner for Szrom. With still 2 outs, Marissa Varela put

down a bunt which scored Glenn and Varela was safe at first.

North Hunterdon tried to score in the bottom of the 7th but

was unsuccessful as EHT prevailed.

EHT participated in the inaugural Tournament of Champions

held on June 7th earning the # 1 seed facing Lodi Immaculate.

Unfortunately, the Eagles came up short in the Tournament of

Champs but had an unbelievable, historic season representing

EHT and will always be remembered as the 1st Softball Team

to bring home the State Championship Title.

Athletic Director Congratulations Group IV State Champions!

The Egg Harbor Township Lady Eagles captured their first

Group IV State Championship in dramatic fashion coming from

behind to win 2-1 over Northern Hunterdon at Kean University.

The team battled hard throughout the tournament to capture

the crown. Special thanks to the EHT Police Department, Fire

Companies, and Ambulance for escorting the team home in

style and back onto to campus Saturday night.

Best of luck to the boy’s track team members at the Meet of

Champions tomorrow. Seven student athletes have qualified or

have received a wild card invitation to participate in the

chance to run at Northern Burlington. Good Luck.

As we come to a close of another year in athletics, I would like

to congratulate all of the coaches, student-athletes, and

families for a tremendous year. The success of the athletic

department is due to your hard work, commitment, and

dedication. Congratulations once again and remember, 9 weeks

till we start the fall season. Go Eagles.
