On July 1, Theresa Richmond of Mahogany Ridge Dog Training School began serving as president of the Culpeper Chapter of Toastmasters International. Toastmasters is a public speaking club that may be just what you are looking for! Their meetings are held the first and third Tuesday each month at Virginia Regional Transit, Meeting Room on Brandy Knoll in Culpeper.

ATCS, P.L.C. is pleased to announce a new addition to their Culpeper Engineering staff, Dulany Lewis; she is a longtime Culpeper resident and resides in the Jeffersonton area. They also would like to welcome their two summer interns, Jeff Nelson from Garrisonville, and Douglas Grover II from Amissville.

ARiA is pleased to announce that they will receive two Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) awards from the Department of Defense (DoD) this year. For the Navy they will be developing new signal-processing tools that help Navy ships detect submarines. For the Air Force they will be developing a cognitive-computing application that leverages artificial-intelligence from IBM Watson to assist companies that want to contract with the government.

As of July 1, 2015, Hospice of the Rapidan will have completed their integration with and assumed the name of Hospice of the Piedmont. Hospice of the Piedmont is the largest community-based nonprofit hospice organization serving central and northern Virginia. The overarching mission of the integration is to provide exceptional patient and family care to those seriously ill and dying in central and northern Virginia.

Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center (PDRC), a Piedmont United Way agency, was recently named a Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) organization for a sixth year by the Virginia Department of Social Services. NAP encourages businesses, trusts and individuals to make donations to approved non-profit organizations for the benefit of low-income persons. PDRC was awarded $5,000 of Virginia tax credits based on its proven operational success and capacity to serve low-income persons.

Recently, at the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance’s 2015 Biennial Retreat at Roanoke College, Karen Brown was the recipient of the Catalyst Purple Ribbon

Award. Karen has worked for the past six and a half years with Services to Abused Families, Inc. (SAFE) in Culpeper, VA as the Director of Programs and Services.

Wakefield Country Day School (WCDS) is pleased to announce their achievement as a Virginia Living© Top School. A special bound-in supplement to the September/October 2015 issue, Virginia Living’s© “State of Education” celebrates excellence and innovation in Virginia’s high schools and

Faye Gish of Faye’s Office Supply would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during Curtis Gish’s recovery from his accident. She would like all to know that his recovery is moving along well.

The Culpeper County Electoral Board re-appointed James Clements to a four-year term as General Registrar beginning July 1. Clements was originally appointed in March to fill an unexpired term. “The Board has been extremely pleased with James' performance the last few months,” said Jan Huss, chair of the Electoral Board. “He has reached and exceeded the goals we set for him during that time and we look forward to working with him for a full term.”

The Board of Directors of Rappahannock Goodwill Industries, Inc. (RGI) has selected Donnie Tolson to become RGI’s next President and CEO. He will succeed Woody Van Valkenburgh, who will retire at the end of 2015 after 35 years with the organization. Tolson, who joined RGI in 2010 as Chief Financial Officer, said, “I look forward to continuing Woody’s commitment of service to our community and establishing new ways to bring the Power of Work to more people.”

CENTURY 21 New Millennium will be collecting school supplies until August 19th as part of its Back to School Supply Drive. The supplies will be distributed to students in need. Businesses and individuals wishing to contribute to the drive should drop off school supplies at 601 South Main Street. Anything from pencils to backpacks will be accepted.

Brown Harris Wealth Management will soon be relocating to 309 N. Main Street, their new office is almost complete! In

addition, Brown Harris recently added a new financial advisor, past President and CEO of the Culpeper Chamber, Jim Charapich. Brown Harris would like to congratulate Karen “Dee” Ingram in celebrating her one year anniversary with Brown Harris.

Sherbeyn's Lawn & Landscape is proud to share their win for Best Appearing Business float at the Brandy Station Volunteer Firemen's Parade on July 23, 2015. They take pride in their work and enjoy community events greatly.

Donald would like to thank his office staff, Michelle Sherbeyn and Emily Arft for their hard work on this entry, as well as for all they do on a regular basis.
