• Welcome to the 2011 Fall CARL Forum• Introductions – what’s your name, group

affiliation and lake?

CARL Overview

• In February 2010, AENV hosted the first Central Alberta Recreational Lakes Workshop

• Nine major recreational lakes in Central Alberta invited

Workshop I - February 2010 • Goal was to explore solutions to issues and

concerns lakes have in common• Six main areas of concern were identified as

issues that the group would like to address in the near future

Workshop II - November 2010• Previewed Lakes Science & Legislation 101• Decided to explore six areas of concern • Key actions documented along with personal

commitments in final report.

Key Actions– Create Advisory Board for lakes

• No direct action to date

– Address confusion and consistency, plus lack of understanding & ongoing communication

• Communications Working Group formed

– Improve lake monitoring & reporting• Lake Monitoring Working Group formed

– Develop Stewardship Group Franchise model• Sustainability Working Group formed

– Increase involvement in local & regional planning• Need to form Stewardship Planning Working Group

Communications Working Group(Glenn, Christine, Leanne & ad hoc reviewers)

• Developed CARL Communication Plan and SharePoint Site (Leanne)

• Promotion of CARL fact sheets, presentations & events e.g. “Dip-in Day”

• Organizing annual CARL Forum

Lake Monitoring Working Group(Glenn, Peter, Dennis, Don, Graeme & Curtis)

• Finding solutions via partners, e.g. AENV & ALMS

• Developing informational products, e.g. Lake Monitoring Overview Fact Sheet

• Creating annual “Proactive Monitoring Plan”• Exploring “Dip-in Day” next July (Phil)
