From the Senior Chaplain

There is a wonderful and powerful portrait of the church painted in I Corinthians 12. I especially like the seventh verse that says, “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” Take careful note of the words, “each one.” It reminds me of the Spirit imparted uniqueness of each person in the church. I am thankful for the many ways that the church has inspired and encouraged me over the years through the gifts that are specifically mentioned in I Corinthians 12. How about the gift of faith? In those seasons of life when my faith has wavered, God put someone with extraordinary faith in my path. In fact, it has always been the amazing faith of the body of Christ that has as-sured me of the faithfulness of God in working through the mira-cle of the church.

I want to encourage you to trust God to use you in the minis-try of Big Canoe Chapel. There are many needs. As you probably know, there are a number of committees doing important ministry that could use you. In just a few weeks the stewardship commit-tee will begin plans for the stewardship campaign in late October. The personnel committee focuses upon staff needs and seeks G0d’s guidance in meeting those needs. The Christian education committee prayerfully considers things like children’s Sunday School curriculum and VBS themes. These are just three exam-ples where we can use your help. I hope you will pray about where the Lord will use you in the church. The body of Christ will be blessed and you will find incredible growth in grace.

Blessings and peace,

Len

Beginning on Sunday, September 1, we are requesting that children older than 4 sit with their parents for the first part of the 10:30am service. They will be invited to come forward for the children’s message and then be dismissed to Sunday School ac-companied by their teachers and leaders. Parents and grandpar-ents are invited to take infants-4 yr. old to the nursery prior to the service but, all children, regardless of age will be a part of the chil-dren’s message. Nursery age children will be accompanied to the sanctuary for the children’s message by their teacher/leaders. This plan will enable our children to participate more fully in the worship service and will give our teachers uninterrupted class-room time with our children.

Please note:

Hearing devices are available from an usher.

The Nursery is available downstairs during the 9:00 & 10:30 am services.

Remember to turn your cell phones back on at the end of the service!

Women’s Bible Study begins September 4th at 9:30 AM in McCormick Hall. We will be studying “Seed” by Priscilla Shirer. In this study we will be learning how to meditate on God’s word. This study is designed to lead each of us to personal meditation, prayerful observation, and listening to God’s Spirit as we read His word. You can sign up for the study at Stand-Around. The cost of the book will be $16.

Each week we will have an optional time of prayer from 8:30-9:30 for those who would like to come and pray. Then we will have our study, which will include a video and small group ses-sions. The study will be from 9:30-11:30 each week, and we will conclude this study on November 20th, when we break for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
