The CB A Message from our Co-Vice-Presidents
Brian Winters, Michael Danzinger, & Avi Fisch
Congregation Brothers of Israel-Long Branch, NJ
https://twitter.com/cbi_longbranch
Winter 2017 Greetings! On behalf of my co-Vice Presidents, Avi Fisch and Michael Danziger, and of my own accord, I hope this message finds its
readers well.
As we start 2017, we herald the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to the next. No, not that one... I mean the transition from Co-Presidents Andy Samuel and Judie Boim to the current Triumvirate.
It reminds me of Parsha Lech Lecha and the battle of the four kings vs five kings…only without the tar pits.
On a serious note, I hope we do one half as well as Andy and Judie did. We thank them.
Our Shul is thriving. Everyone I have spoken to commented that the Yamim Noraim davening was among the most beautiful and meaningful we have had. From Rosh Hashanah through Mendy's stirring Kol Nidre until the sunlight shone through the stain glass windows during Neilah, our congregation
experienced something special.
As reflection and teshuva gave way to joy and simchot on Sukkot and Simchat Torah, our shul family continued to come closer together and enjoy one another's company in true CBI fashion - accompanied by food and drink!
Our children - so many children we have - enjoyed a Hanukkah bowling night and singing during Hanukkah candle lighting.
What about comedy night?! Modi was hilarious, and (in case you missed it) I am told that a few of his bits were circulated on YouTube.
Shabbat and our kiddishes are everyone's weekly highlight The davening is consistently inspiring and the camaraderie at kiddish is gratifying.
We've had our losses too. And we've had controversies. But I am proud of the way we've gotten through our rough patches.
So, as 2017 follows 2016, and we move inexorably forward with strength and faith in Hashem, we (your Vice Presidents) look forward to a great year.
Greetings 1

A Message from Amy Greenspan
Dear Congregation Brothers of Israel,
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Amy Greenspan and I am honored to be your new shul administrator. I have lived in Ocean Twp with my husband and two children for the past 18 years. My two sons: Isaac and Harry are 15 and 13. While choosing to stay home to be a full time mom, I worked part time fundraising for the JCC in Deal while my kids attended school there. Before that I was a professional fundraiser and program services coordinator for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. There, I acquired many skills that will help me successful as Administrator.
Barbara, who has been here for 25 years, has been incredible. teaching me all she does to meet the needs of the congregation. I am looking forward to adding a few new touches to things, while making sure the important responsibilities get done (as they have for the past 25 years). Over the next few weeks, I will be reaching out to all of you to say hello and personally introduce myself. In the mean time I would love for you to email or call me to update your information. You can call the office or email me at [email protected]. We are working on being able to get our information to you as quickly and efficiently as possible. This will help us tremendously with that process. Please let me know the primary family contact as well.
I look forward to working with all of you on some project or another and am here to ensure that our shul will be the best it can be in 2017 and beyond.
Sincerely,
Amy Greenspan

On Wednesday, December 29th
the families of our community
joined together for the annual
Hanukah Party but this year we
went bowling. The event was
held at Bradly bowling alley
where we had dinner, ate dough-
nuts and bowled with our friends.
We had over 20 kids attend and
everyone had a great time. One
mom could be quoted saying, “All
kids had a great time and grown
ups too.” Another said, “My kids
had a blast and I ate too much
pizza too.” We are thrilled that
everyone had fun and can’t wait
for our next event!
Scholar-In-Residence Professor Andrew Meyer of Brooklyn College twice presented to CBI on Sunday morning over bagels. The first time on China: Friends from Afar (A presen-tation on Chinese Jewish Religious History), and the second time on Parallel Nationalisms: Sun Yat-sen and Theodore Herzi. Given the large turnouts and extremely favorable reviews we are trying to arrange a third presentation for the spring.
