Through the newsletter I want to share the wonderful weekly achievements of our students and provide any relevant updates. This week we have seen a new way of teaching and learning being rolled out across our school. I am exceptionally proud of how our students have responded to remote learning and there are numerous examples of where students have completed many hours of learning. The teachers have also been sharing excellent examples of work our students have completed. Well done and keep it up Causeway! We are definitely in uncertain times but I wanted you to know that we will continue to be here offering support and guidance to our students, parents/carers and community. Following the government's announcement last week and new measures around social distancing we do not know exactly when our community can come together as one but throughout this time I would like you to remember that we are all on this journey together and the Causeway School staff are here to offer support and help throughout this time. Take care and best wishes. Sarah Speedie Welcome to the first Causeway Newsletter! The intention will be to keep parents and students up to date on student successes, top tips to keep busy studying and being active and to provide some much-needed positivity and positive news. Staff will be setting weekly challenges from a range of subjects that can involve the whole family. We will feature news and updates from different departments each week! Please do email [email protected] If you have any suggestions or requests that you would like included in this newsletter!

How many tickets did they buy in total? 3.A mobile phone and phone case cost £110 in total. The mobile phone costs £100 more than the phone case. How much was the mobile phone?

CAUSEWAY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER MARCH 2020 5

On World Book Day, 5th March 2020, ninety students from seven secondary schools in Swale Academies Trust met at The Whitstable School to hear Carol Ann Duffy read her poems and to take part in discussion with her about creative writing.

The students also took part in two poetry writing workshops run by student ambassadors from Kent University.

Some of their poems were ‘blackout poems’ inspired by the language of Virginia Woolf. Others were in response to images produced by different social media platforms.

WORLD BOOK DAY – STUDENT POEMS

Carnival Ninos

She stands alone, smiling. Taking in the moment of Carnival Ninos

The lights, the sounds

The beeps the bops of Carnival Ninos.

Alone no more, he stands

His hand, head all cropped into place

Alone no more, he stands.

I sat down to imagine the perfect sequences fall towards me - The words I speak are nothing but a fake reality, My solitude…

Happiness could only hope for a glimpse of light, Looking upon the picture I post. Admitting the perfect world of mine – But you’re wrong. My time flies As I gasp for a hint of attention. I want it but do not need it. I live in an imperfect reality And so do you.

You wake up and want a break, But an addiction is hard to shake. The app in which you spend hours and hours

Never looking up or smelling the flowers, An image on screen or in a dream. In reality they are not what they seem

So many fakers try to make it…

And then there’s me

Wrapped in a blanket.

The Causeway School Newsletter 27th March 2020

Dear Parents & Students of Year 11

For the year 11 leavers of 2020 we would like to offer you the opportunity of purchasing a leavers hoodie. We think this is a great leavers gift for the children which will provide them with a lasting memory of their time spent at Causeway School and the friends they have all made. Each hoodie will have the school logo embroidered on the front and the number 20 in large print on the back filled with all pupils currently in Year 11’s, first and surname as per the example picture.

The hoodies are priced £18.50 each. We have chosen to work with a local company who are providing many benefits to the school as well as the facility for parents to purchase the hoodies online. Here is the link to Causeway School’s unique shop:

https://www.hartlandhoodies.com/school-leavers-hoodies/cause-way-school

The shop will be open for a limited period from Today, 20 March 2020 until 1st May 2020. If you would like to purchase a hoodie, please make sure you do this within the time frames set. Unfortunately, no late orders can be accepted. All hoodies will collectively be delivered to school but due to the current impact of Coronavirus we are unable to confirm when we will be able to invite you in to collect them. We will contact you via email as soon as we know. Cameras at the ready!

Once you have logged in to the online shop you will have the opportunity to select your required size and pay online. Delivery will be made in bulk to the School. There will also be an option to customise your leavers hoodie by adding a nickname. This is an additional charged at £3.50 each. Please note that this is optional.

Ideally, we would like to include all year 11 children's first name and surname on the back of the 2020 leavers hoodie. However, we completely understand if you would prefer not to have your child's name listed. Please inform us by email ([email protected]) no later than 1st April, if you do not wish for your child’s name to be included. There will also be a tick box within the shop for you to provide your permission for us to include your child’s name.

As mentioned to our Year 11's on the Friday they left, we hope to bring you all back together towards the end of Summer and have a proper celebration day, further details of this will follow nearer the time.
