THANK YOU!!
A very special THANK YOU to all who helped make the parish Basket Auction such a great suc-cess. Thank you to all who worked behind the scenes and those who worked the Auction. Thank you to all who donated for the auction. We had wonderful prizes because of you Thank you to our seventh and eighth grade students who helped set up, clean up and be “runners” with the prizes. Of course, thank you to all who continue to sup-port our parish through these fundraisers. This is one of our largest fundraisers during the year, and it was another success because of all of YOU!
Our Bulletin is in Jeopardy
Ever wonder how much the bulletin costs to print each week? It costs the parish nothing! Our print-ing costs are taken care of by the businesses who sponsor ads on the back cover. If you look at it today, you will see two ads, St. Peter’s Cemetery and Café Milano. The rest of the ads are just “filler”. We need your help in getting more ads! When you shop, have your nails and/or hair done, when you visit your doctor or dentist, please ask them to consider placing an ad in our bulletin. You can give them the phone number on the back of the bulletin, or call the rectory with the name of the person you spoke with a phone number and we will have the bulletin company contact them.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION In ancient Rome, the beautiful month of May was dedicated to the goddess Flora, the patroness of flowers and new life. May 1 was considered the beginning of abundant growth, and a day for public festivals aimed at expelling winter. Even after Christianity took hold, the customs of the pagan feast lingered behind. Long ago, there was a thirty-day devotion to Mary, sometimes called "Lady Month," which began on August 15. By the eight-eenth century, the custom of assigning devotions to months of the year was developing. June, for exam-ple, was the month of the Sacred Heart, and Octo-ber was for the Holy Rosary. Beginning with the Jesuit Order in Rome and spreading throughout the world, May has been celebrated as the month of Mary, the Blessed Mother, for more than two hun-dred years. That was a welcome remedy to some enduring pagan practices, such as maypole dancing and the crowning of the May Queen. Some histori-ans say that in ancient times the May Queen was actually a human sacrifice. Devoting May to Mary is undoubtedly a better thing to do. - -Rev. James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co
--Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
Farewell
As you know, Margaret Moschetto will be retiring after many years of service to the people of Sts. Peter & Paul & Assumption. Although Margaret will continue to be with us at Mass, we would like to have an opportunity to thank her and wish her well. On Sunday, June 3, 2018 there will be a re-ception for Margaret in Assumption Hall after the 10 a.m. Mass. Please mark your calendars and join us for this celebration.
This Thursday is Ascen-sion Thursday, and a Holy Day of Obligation. All Catholics are required to attend Mass. Masses will be celebrated on Thurs-day, May 10 at 7 a.m. at St Peter’s, 9 a.m. at As-sumption, and 7 p.m. at Assumption.
Separated & Divorced Support Group This Support Group meets on the 2nd Friday of each month. The next meeting will be on Friday, May 11th, at 7:00 p.m. at 145 Clinton Avenue. Please call 718 447-6362 should you wish to join the group.
The sympathy of the parish is extended to the families of Rev. Neil Graham and Mary Gertrude Byrns.
