¡Cristo Vive!
El Santo Evangelio según San Juan (Jn 14, 15-21) En aquel
tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Si me aman, cumplirán mis
mandamientos; yo le rogaré al Pa-dre y él les dará otro Paráclito
para que esté siempre con ustedes, el Espíritu de la verdad. El
mundo no pue-de recibirlo, porque no lo ve ni lo conoce; ustedes,
en cambio, sí lo conocen, porque habita entre ustedes y estará en
ustedes. No los dejaré desamparados, sino que volveré a ustedes.
Dentro de poco, el mundo no me verá más, pero ustedes sí me verán,
porque yo permanezco vivo y ustedes también vivirán. En aquel día
entenderán que yo estoy en mi Padre, ustedes en mí y yo en ustedes.
El que acepta mis mandamientos y los cumple, ése me ama. Al que me
ama a mí, lo amará mi Padre, yo también lo amaré y me manifestaré a

Meditación: Juan 14, 15-21
Si me aman, cumplirán mis mandamientos. (Juan 14, 15) Por lo
general, obedecemos las leyes del tránsito por razones de seguridad
y para evitar una multa. En una competición, uno obedece las reglas
de clasificación para poder optar al premio; del mismo modo
seguimos atentamente las instrucciones cuando queremos aprender
alguna destreza o hacer un buen trabajo. Jesús nos pide que seamos
obedientes, pero que lo hagamos por amor. Nosotros obedecemos a
Cristo porque lo amamos, porque estamos agradecidos de su muerte en
la cruz. ¡Qué inmenso es el amor que él nos ha demostrado! Cuando
pensamos en esto, nos sentimos atraídos hacia Dios y deseosos de
que él pueda usarnos para cumplir sus designios divinos. Cuando
obedecemos los mandatos de Jesús, demostramos que lo amamos, y al
mismo tiempo preparamos nuestra morada interior para la presencia
del Espíritu Santo. “Yo le rogaré al Padre y él les dará otro
Parácli-to para que esté siempre con ustedes, el Espíritu de la
verdad” (Juan 14,16). Si somos obedientes, podemos recibir el don
del amor de Dios, el Espíritu Santo, que nos revela a Jesús en toda
su gloria. Quizás pensemos que solo podremos ser obedientes cuando
tengamos la plenitud del Espíritu, pero en reali-dad es al revés:
Los obedientes son los que pueden experimentar la plenitud del
Espíritu. No importa dónde nos encontremos en nuestra vida
cristiana, ahora mismo podemos empezar a obedecer los mandatos de
Dios. Una manera de amar a Dios es acercándonos a él diariamente en
la oración y en la meditación de su Palabra. También se nos pide
amar al prójimo como Cristo nos ama a nosotros. Si nos damos cuenta
de que hemos dañado a alguien, causándole dolor o perjuicio, la
forma de mostrar el amor de Cristo es arrepentirnos y pe-dir
perdón; y perdonar a los que nos han ofendido o dañado a nosotros.
Si somos dóciles a los impulsos del Espíritu, él nos dará la
capacidad de ser obedientes y nos mostrará el ca-mino de la
santificación. “Señor Jesucristo, te amo con toda mi alma. Ayúdame
a amar también a mis semejantes.”

The Holy Gospel According to St John (Jn 14, 15-21)
Jesus said to his disciples: “If you love me, you will keep my
commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you
another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, whom
the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows him. But
you know him, because he remains with you, and will be in you. I
will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. In a little while
the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I
live and you will live. On that day you will realize that I am in
my Father and you are in me and I in you. Whoever has my
commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever
loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal
myself to him.” The Gospel of the Lord
Meditation: John 14, 15-21 He will give you another Advocate.
(John 14:16) “You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot
afford an attorney, one will be provided for you.” This familiar
phrase is part of the “Miranda warning” that police officers give
to any person they arrest. It’s based on the belief that no one
should stand alone when facing charges. Someone has to be there to
make sure the accused is given a fair trial. It must be consoling
for the accused person to have someone by their side at their trial
to help them face their accuser with dignity and courage. Isn’t it
interesting that this is how Jesus describes the Holy Spirit in
today’s Gospel? The Greek word for “Advocate,” parakletos, also
means defense attorney. It’s especially interesting when we
remember that the Scriptures portray the devil as our “adversary”
who never stops hurling accusations against us (Zechariah 3:1;
Revelation 12:9-10). This means that we don’t have to stand before
the devil’s accusations alone. Jesus has given us the Spirit so
that we can stand up against the lies of the evil one. He has given
us the best defense attorney in history. Someone who will assure us
that we have been forgiven. Someone who will remind us of God’s
love for us. Someone who sees our sins and failings but who also
sees the true desires of our hearts and never gives up on us.
Always remember the Holy Spirit, your defender, especially when you
start thinking that you’re no good or that God has given up on you.
Remember him when you begin to doubt the goodness of God’s plans
for you and your loved ones. Every day of your life, be sure that
you spend time listening for the Holy Spirit. Let him convince you
over and over again that you belong to Christ and that no one can
snatch you out of his hands. “Spirit of truth, help me to withstand
every temptation and every accusation.” First Reading: Acts 8:5-8,

2020 Annual Catholic Appeal Seeing Christ in the Faces of
Others
In today’s Gospel, Jesus says to His disciples, “If you love me,
you will keep my commandments”. Scripture teaches us that serving
Christ is a fundamental part of our Catholic faith and that serving
the Lord means serving others. When we give of ourselves on behalf
of others, the Holy Spirit works through us and Jesus is served. In
these continuing difficult times, it becomes clearer that our role
as Church is more critical than ever in helping those in need.
Bearing witness to poverty, illness and injustice and responding in
the spirit of Christ are the hallmarks of the many ministries
supported by the Annual Catholic Appeal. For those of you who have
