THE CATHEDRAL OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the lord

1 April 2018

Cathedral of St. John the Baptist 1 April 2018

Saint Anthony’s Relics At The Cathedral

Sunday, 8 April Veneration all day

Masses: 9 AM, 11:15 AM & 6 PM

The Franciscan Friars from Padua, Italy, invite you to

join them in welcoming Saint Anthony of Padua to

The Cathedral. St. Anthony will be visiting us in the

form of “two precious and first class” relics from the

Pontifical Basilica in Padua, Italy.

The real meaning of a relic is love – they are a link of

love between the person who venerates and the saint.”

St Anthony intercedes with those trying to find a job,

housing, faith, love, hope, harmony within the family,

good health, peace of mind and mercy.

Pope Benedict Emeritus said of relics “By inviting us

to venerate the mortal remains of the martyrs and

saints, the Church does not forget that, in the end,

these are indeed just human bones, but they are bones

that belonged to individuals touched by the living

power of God. The relics of the saints are traces of

that invisible but real presence which sheds light upon

the shadows of the world and reveals the Kingdom of

Heaven in our midst.”

Prayer petitions with holy cards will be distributed by

Friar Bortolino and volunteers to allow parishioners to

write their prayer petition to the saint. The writing of

a prayer petition is a worldwide tradition when vener-

ating a relic of a saint. Father Bortolino will bring

the petitions back to the Basilica in Padua and place

them at the tomb of Saint Anthony. The tour official-

ly ends back at the Tomb of Saint Anthony where the

Friars will gather to pray for the saint’s intercession

upon our intentions and petitions.

To learn more about St. Anthony of Padua, please vis-

it: www.saintanthonyofpadua.net or call Tom Musca-

tello, USA Representative, at 914.263.8841.

The Parish Office will be closed:

2 April, Easter Monday

3 April, Tuesday after Easter

The office will reopen on 4 April 2018.

There will be no 12:05 pm Mass 2 April.

Monsignor Brovey and the staff of the Cathedral wish all our parishioners and their families a Blessed Easter Season!

Congratulations to all our RCIA Catechumens

and Candidates, who were received into Full

Communion with the Catholic Church this

weekend. God bless you as you begin your new

lives in the Faith!

Divine Mercy Sunday The message of Divine Mercy is simple. It is

that God loves us-all of us. And, he wants us to

recognize that His mercy is greater than our

sins, so that we will call upon Him to trust, re-

ceive His mercy, and let it flow through us to

others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. The

Divine Mercy message is one we call to mind

simply by remembering ABC:

A-Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to ap-

proach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of

our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out

on us and upon the whole world.

B-Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mer-

cy and let it flow through us to others. He

wants us to extend love and forgiveness to oth-

ers just as He does to us.

C-Completely trust Jesus. The graces of God’s

mercy are dependent upon trust. The more we

trust in Jesus, the more we will receive.
