The Prayer of Preparation
Almighty God,
to whom all hearts are open,
all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden:
cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name;
through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Prayers of Penitence
The deacon says
God so loved the world
that he gave his only Son Jesus Christ to save us from our sins,
to be our advocate in heaven, and to bring us to eternal life.
Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith,
firmly resolved to keep God’s commandments
and to live in love and peace with all.
Most merciful God,
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
we confess that we have sinned
in thought, word and deed.
We have not loved you with our whole heart.
We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.
In your mercy
forgive what we have been,
help us to amend what we are,
and direct what we shall be;
that we may do justly,
love mercy,
and walk humbly with you, our God.
Amen.
The president says
Almighty God,
who forgives all who truly repent,
have mercy upon you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in life eternal;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Liturgy of the Word
Please remain seated for the psalm which is sung by the cantor and
choir alone
Psalm (65)
The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest.
You come to our land with life-giving rain.
The rivers of heaven overflow their banks.
The ploughed earth is ready to spring into life.
You soften it with showers, give blessing to its yield.
The promise of spring in harvest fulfilled:
Your bounty spilling over ‘til barren lands have bloomed.
A blanket of grain shines in the valleys like gold:
Flocks like a snowy robe cover the fields.
The hillsides are full of joy; they sing to the Lord for joy.

New Testament Reading
A reading from the letter to the Church in Rome (2 Corinthians 9.6-15)
Read by Ayo Adebayo
If you will only obey the LORD your God, by diligently observing all his
commandments that I am commanding you today, the LORD your God will set you
high above all the nations of the earth; all these blessings shall come upon you and
overtake you, if you obey the LORD your God:
Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field.
Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb, the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of
your livestock, both the increase of your cattle and the issue of your flock.
Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading-bowl.
Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.
The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before
you; they shall come out against you one way, and flee before you seven
7
ways. The LORD will command the blessing upon you in your barns, and in all that
you undertake; he will bless you in the land that the LORD your God is giving
you. The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as he has sworn to you, if you
keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in his ways. All the
peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and
they shall be afraid of you. The LORD will make you abound in prosperity, in the
fruit of your womb, in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground
in the land that the LORD swore to your ancestors to give you. The LORD will
open for you his rich storehouse, the heavens, to give the rain of your land in its
season and to bless all your undertakings. You will lend to many nations, but you
will not borrow. The LORD will make you the head, and not the tail; you shall be
only at the top, and not at the bottom—if you obey the commandments of
the LORD your God, which I am commanding you today, by diligently observing
them, and if you do not turn aside from any of the words that I am commanding
you today, either to the right or to the left, following other gods to serve them.
This is the word of the Lord
Thanks be to God.
Please remain seated for the hymn which is sung by the cantor alone
Gradual Hymn
Praise God for the harvest of orchard and field,
praise God for the people who gather their yield,
the long hours of labour, the skills of a team,
the patience of science, the power of machine.
Praise God for the harvest that comes from afar,
from market and harbour, the sea and the shore:
foods packed and transported, and gathered and grown
by God-given neighbours, unseen and unknown.
Praise God for the harvest that's quarried and mined,
then sifted, and smelted, or shaped and refined:
for oil and for iron, for copper and coal,
praise God, who in love has provided them all.
Praise God for the harvest of science and skill,
the urge to discover, create and fulfil:
For plans and inventions that promise to gain
a future more hopeful, a world more humane.
8
Praise God for the harvest of conflict and love
for leaders and peoples who struggle and serve
to banish oppression, earth's plenty increase,
and gather God's harvest of justice and peace.

Please stand for the Gospel reading
The Gospel
The deacon says (Luke 12.16-30 or 17.11-19)
Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke.
Glory to you, O Lord.
Jesus told the crowd a parable: ‘The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And
he thought to himself, “What should I do, for I have no place to store my
crops?” Then he said, “I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger
ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul,
Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.” But
God said to him, “You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you.
And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?” So it is with those who
store up treasures for themselves but are not rich towards God.’
He said to his disciples, ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what
you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food,
and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap,
they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much
more value are you than the birds! And can any of you by worrying add a single
hour to your span of life? If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that,
why do you worry about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither
toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one
of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and
tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you—you of
little faith! And do not keep striving for what you are to eat and what you are to
drink, and do not keep worrying. For it is the nations of the world that strive after
all these things, and your Father knows that you need them.
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.
Sermon
Canon Rowena Pailing

Please stand with the president for
The Creed We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all that is,
seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son
is worshipped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

and also with you.
Please do not physically pass the peace

Preparation of the Table
[This was completed before the service began]
Taking of the Bread and Wine
Blessed are you Lord, God of all creation;
you bring forth bread from the earth.
Blessed be God for ever.
Blessed are you Lord, God of all creation;
you create the fruit of the vine.
Blessed be God for ever.
Eucharistic Prayer
The Lord is here.
His Spirit is with us.
Lift up your hearts
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give thanks and praise.
It is indeed right and good
to give you thanks and praise,
almighty God and Father,
through Jesus Christ your Son.
Through him you have created us in your own image,
and made us stewards of your good creation.
Through him you teach us to exult in the birds of the air,
the lilies of the field,
the precious and life-giving crops of the earth.
Through him you free us from the slavery of sin,
giving him to die upon the cross and to rise again for our salvation.
Through him, you begin your work of new creation,
as we look for a new heaven and a new earth
in which your righteousness dwells.
Therefore, we join with angels and archangels,
and give voice to every creature under heaven,
for ever praising you and saying:
12
The choir sings:
Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of hosts.
Pleni sunt coeli et terra gloria tua. Heaven and earth are full of thy glory.
Hosanna in excelsis. Hosanna in the highest.
Benedictus qui venit in nomine
Domini. Hosanna in excelsis.
Blessed is he who comes in the name
of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
We praise and bless you, loving Father,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord;
and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit,
that broken bread and wine outpoured
may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son.
On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and,
taking bread, he praised you.
He broke the bread, gave it to them and said:
Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.
When supper was ended he took the cup of wine.
Again he praised you, gave it to them and said:
Drink this, all of you;
this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and
for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.
So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did,
in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice
made once for all upon the cross.
Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation,
we proclaim his death and resurrection
until he comes in glory.
The deacon says
Great is the mystery of faith:
Christ has died:
Christ is risen:
Christ will come again.
13
Lord of all life,
help us to work together for that day
when your kingdom comes
and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth.
Look with favour on your people,
gather us in your loving arms
and bring us with the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints
to feast at your table in heaven.
Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
As we join our prayers with those of the Church Universal, so we say, in our own language, the prayer our Saviour taught us,
Notre père, qui es aux cieux … Missierna, li inti fis-smewwiet…
Vater unser im Himmel … Padre nosso, que estais nos céus…
Padre nostro che sei nei cieli … Ojcze nasz, któryś jest w niebie…
Otče náš, jenž jsi na nebesích … ،الذي في السماوات…
Tėve Mūsų, kuris esi danguje! ... Ein Tad, yr hwn wyt yn y nefoedd…
Tatal nostru care esti in ceruri …
Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
14
The Breaking of the Bread
The president breaks the consecrated bread, saying:
We break this bread
to share in the body of Christ.
Though we are many, we are one body,
because we all share in one bread.
The Giving of Communion
The president says
God’s holy gifts
for God’s holy people.
Jesus Christ is holy,
Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
The body of Christ.
Amen.
Please stay standing in front of your chair and communion will be brought to you.
Once you have received communion, or if you do not wish to receive on this occasion,
please sit down.
Communion is in one kind only,
and no words of administration or reply are used
– communion takes place silently.
During communion
The choir sings
For the beauty of the earth,
for the beauty of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies:
Lord of all to thee we raise
this our joyful hymn of praise.
15
For the beauty of each hour
of the day and of the night,
hill and vale, and tree and flower,
sun and moon and stars of light:
For the joy of human love,
brother, sister, parent, child,
friends on earth, and friends above,
for all gentle thoughts and mild:
For each perfect gift and sign
of your love so freely given,
graces human and divine,
flowers of earth and buds of heaven.
Folliott Sandford Pierpoint (1835-1917)
Music by John Rutter
Prayer after Communion
Silence is kept.
Lord of the harvest,
with joy we have offered thanksgiving for your love in creation
and have shared in the bread and wine of the kingdom:
by your grace plant within us a reverence for all that you give us
and make us generous and wise stewards
of the good things we enjoy;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Almighty God,
we thank you for feeding us
with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ.
Through him we offer you our souls and bodies
to be a living sacrifice.
Send us out
in the power of your Spirit
to live and work
to your praise and glory.
Amen.
Please stand
16
