The Saint Cecilia Singers are serving up a feast of English festive music, congregational

carols and seasonal readings at their annual Christmas concert at Gloucester Cathedral

on Saturday 21st December at 7.00pm

The Saint Cecilia Singers is the chamber choir of Gloucester Cathedral, conducted by

the Cathedral’s Assistant Director of Music, Jonathan Hope. He said: “The programme

ranges from familiar favourites like the Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Vaughan Williams

and songs by Howells to little-known gems from my predecessors at Gloucester

Cathedral - Mark Lee, Mark Blatchly and John Sanders. We will also perform the

delightful Missa ad Praesepe by George Malcolm which he composed for the Choir of

Westminster Cathedral. We invite everyone to treat themselves to a well-deserved

hour or two of 'me' time just four days before Christmas in the stunning surrounding of

Gloucester Cathedral. This concert will send them away full of Christmas spirit.”

Accompanying the choir is Gloucester Cathedral’s Organ scholar Mary Pan.

Tickets are £17.50 in advance and £20 on the door with under 18s welcome free of

wonderful, uplifting setting of the scriptures. A choral mainstay since its first performance

in 1742, Handel’s Messiah is an essential part of Christmas and is not to be missed.

Gloucester Choral Society performs this masterpiece under the baton of renowned

choral director Adrian Partington in the magnificent setting of Gloucester Cathedral.

Support the Glory of Music

Choral music has been an integral part of Cathedral life for almost 500 years and

breathes life into our wonderful building and brings joy to us all.

In Gloucester we are rightly proud of our musicians and the quality of our choirs.

If you wish to keep our choral tradition alive, please support our choirs.

The Youth Choir, Middle Choir, Junior Choir, boy and girl choristers all depend on your

support.

Help Cathedral music to thrive by making a donation or leaving a gift in your will or by

becoming a Music Patron for as little as £10 a month.

If you would like more information about supporting music at Gloucester Cathedral,

please contact our Development Manager, Sonia Bielaszewska:
