our visionour mission

Dear Life Changer,

I pray all is well with you and your loved ones. Many in our communities, and even some of our supporters, think that our Centers are primarily shelters for the homeless. While we do follow the example of Jesus in feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and sheltering the weary — your support provides so much more.

Each Center has comprehensive programs to empower people to become successful in life. We have programs for children and provide educational resources for all residents. Our Christmas in July Outreach provided over 600 pairs of new sneakers for needy kids. We’re passionate about helping our men, women, and children break the cycle of poverty and homelessness and become successful in life.

We simply could not do what we do without YOU! Send in your gift today and help us empower men, women, and children experience changed lives!

Special Blessings to you and your loved ones,

Rev. Ronald BrummittPresidentMiami Rescue MissionBroward Outreach Centers

CARE Elementary Opens for the Coming School Year

We’re very excited about the August open-ing of CARE Elementary School. CARE (Christian Academy for Reaching Excellence) is a private school which will serve chil-dren primarily from the Overtown and Wynwood area. CARE will be housed in the Miami Rescue Mission’s Community Activity Center for Youth and will have children from kindergarten through third grade the first year. The Mission of CARE Elementary School is to provide a nurtur-ing Christian environment where children from the Overtown/Wynwood community receive the best opportunity for academic success and character development.

CARE Elementary School is committed to quality instruction by certified teach-ers, small classes, engaging common core curriculum and ongoing support of

volunteers. Scholarships and financial aid will help many receive the private educa-tion that would otherwise not be possible. Miami Rescue Mission board member and CARE chairperson, Marty Steinberger, is excited for the school year to begin and states, “There’s just a huge need for better instruction and better intervention. We want the kids to have that academic and spiritual foundation that empowers them to be success-ful in life.”

CARE will offer the best in technology, smaller classrooms, and great teachers.

CARE is located at 2025 NW 1 Ave., Miami, FL 33127. To find out how you can volunteer or donate to help, visit their website:www.CAREelementary.org or call 305.572.2072.

After years in a relationship, Vanesa’s sig-nificant other and the father to her daugh-ter became abusive towards Vanesa. The violence escalated to a point where Vanesa was almost killed. Her daughter bit the man so she could escape. Vanesa was able to leave the house and the abusive situation with her daughter.

Vanesa had a little money saved that she used to stay in motels with her daughter and then friend she knew from work. Eventually, the money ran out and the mother and daughter were forced to be on the streets. She was soon referred to the Miami Rescue Mission Center for Women & Children.

At the Center, Vanesa has had access to resources to help her get her life back on track and return to a sense of stability. She loves the care and activities Miami Rescue Mission has been able to provide to her daughter as she works to create a new life for both of them.

ESCAPING VIOLENCE & REBUILDING A LIFE

Celebrating Independence & Giving at the Christmas in July Street OutreachOver 3,000 homeless and needy men, women, and children took part in our “Christmas in July” outreach held on July 24th at our Miami and Broward Centers.

There was great food, entertainment, special activities for the kids, clothing, health booths, career fairs, and so much more. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal served by our wonderful volun-teers (over 500 came to serve).

Over 600 children received new sneakers in preparation for the new school year, enjoyed a day of special activities, and just had fun.

Over 100 homeless men and women made the decision to enroll in one our residential programs.

Special thanks to our main sponsors — Keller Williams Realty of Weston, FL, ScheduALL, Scott Evans Productions, AmTrust Bank, and Ultimate Soft-ware. And special blessings to everyone that made this day so special.

“It’s a blessing. It’s truly a blessing.”

STAY CONNECTED!

Gathering in Faith & FellowshipIt was a morning of food, faith, fellowship, and new connections at the annual Miami Rescue Mission Faith Brunch in June. Rep-resentatives from churches and ministries all over the Miami area gathered to discuss new ways to put their faith in action to help those who are homeless and in need.

New Backyards & New BeginningsA team of volunteers with Girlfriends 4 Girlfriends, a group dedicated to provid-ing safe, affordable housing for women, gave the backyard of the new women’s permanent homes a total makeover. The volunteers worked hard to create a safe and comfortable space for the women and children in transition from the Miami Rescue Mission program. Girlfriends 4 Girlfriends will be hosting a luncheon on September 12, 2015. The Be a Character 2 Change a Character event will be held at the Wynwood Annex and will be a fun afternoon to raise money for future Girl-friends 4 Girlfriends proj-ects. For more information, contact Marilyn Brummitt at [email protected] or (305) 571-2200.
