Four years later I graduated from Waterloo Lutheran Seminary. After graduating, as I awaited a call, I went back to occasional teaching for the Brant County RC Separate School Board. I have served congregations in Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba and have seen firsthand how important it is to rural pastors to have someone to call upon. I also serve the Lutheran Council In Canada as the national partner representative for Scouting. As with most seminarians, I took the mandatory first quarter of Clinical Pastoral Education and felt that would be the end of that, but last winter I took a second quarter at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Working as a cover chaplain and as a student reminded me of just how important the presence of the chaplain is to healing. Over the next few months I look forward to working with the various committees and volunteers of LuMinHoS. You play a vital role in the ministry and especially so with a half time chaplain. Pr. Chaplain Michael Diegel’s Message: LuMinHoS

Hi there! I’m Pastor Michael Diegel, the Lutheran Chaplain. More than one person has looked at me, as if to say you don’t look like Ron, and I’m not. So who am I?

I’m a Lutheran pastor under call to the Saskatchewan Synod for pastoral service and have been “called” by LuMinHoS to cover the sabbatical of Pastor Ron Bestvater, on a half time basis.

I graduated from Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario with a B.A. and B.Ed degrees. I then worked as an occasional teacher for two years before finally giving seminary a try. Four years later I graduated from Waterloo Lutheran Seminary. After graduating, as I awaited a call, I went back to occasional teaching for the Brant County RC Separate School Board.

President’s Message - by Gord Martens

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The past months have been an absolute joy. I am ever amazed at the way God leads and provides! Our mission remains solid, and our mission is our ministry. What a wonderful opportunity to be able to minister to our fellow Lutherans in their most vulnerable moments. What a blessing to be able to share the joy and comfort of God's forgiveness and comfort at a time comfort seems so distant. We see our Saviour's presence at these times manifested in such a wonderful way. We reach out to you, the faithful, to become an ever increasing part of our ministry.

First of all we ask you to keep the ministry of LuMinHoS in your prayers constantly. Join us as we give thanks for the following:

God's gracious abundance in providing generous donors to fund our ministry;

The ability to allow Pastor Ron to take a much needed sabbatical and not worry about his ministry;

The willingness of Pastor Michael Diegel to step into the position of Interim Chaplain;

The willingness of our board and committee members to take on all the many projects to keep our ministry focused.

We ask for your prayers for the visitors, Chaplain and our Board:

That we continually focus on God's will for ministry;

That we fearlessly move through opening doors and trust God to produce results;

For strength and courage for Pastor Michael as he fills his mission;

For a refreshing time away for Pastor Ron; For more volunteers to help out with the ever increasing visits;

For a continuing good working relationship with the Saskatoon Health Care Board, especially in light of possible changes to the structure of the organization;

For wisdom and a servant attitude as we continue to seek ways to be faithful on our ministry.

We also encourage all of you to seek ways to help us in our ministry by volunteering where possible and for continuing financial support. It is through your partnership this becomes possible. Your servant in Christ,

Gord Martens

LuMinHoS Mardi Gras

The LuMinHoS Mardi Gras Fundraiser Dinner was held at LutherCare Village on Sunday, Feb. 26. It was a great evening with food and entertainment and enjoyed by all 140 individuals who attended. The facility is very nice and we were well fed, thank you to the staff at the Bistro for a great meal. Our entertainment was provided by Grace Buhler, on piano, prior to dinner and the Joy Singers after. We are very privileged to have such wonderful musicians in our midst. Thank you to all of them. We were also able to tour this new facility, thank you to the staff at LutherCare Village for this opportunity. We also need to thank Wendy Stevenson for organizing this wonderful evening for us to enjoy.
