From the Bridge:
Summer doesn’t officially begin until June 21 st …unless you live on the Gulf
Coast! The summer weather is certainly here…and the start of the hurricane
season…but more importantly the yacht club is happily welcoming Sail
Camp for our younger members. The event is so important to the club as it
prepares these younger ones to keep our sail/race activities going forward
into the future.
With the heat and the sun comes the opening of our brand-new pool! It has
been a long overdue upgrade; I (being extremely non-technical) am ex-
tremely grateful to the capable and energetic endeavors of several of our
members, especially Patrick and Elvis. The next time you see them, give
them both a hardy THANK YOU!
The pool will be open with limited hours until July 4th; at that time there
will be a Splash Party. Saturday the 8th there will be a festive, fun Flamingos
and Flip Flop party with live music and entertainment…not to be missed! It
will be a great kick-off to summer on the Mississippi Coast.
Again, I must say thank you to the members who work so hard behind the
scenes: planning, shopping, decorating, cooking…you people are what keeps
this club going.
CHECK YOUR CALENDAR, EMAILS AND TEXTS FOR UPCOMING EVENTS.
COME OUT, SUPPORT YOUR CLUB AND HAVE A SWIMMINGLY GOOD TIME!
Very Important Information: The club sends a lot of information via email—news, newsletters, statements, etc. However due to some changes in email filtering systems by some of the major email carriers, some of this information is being missed because it is be-ing flagged as “spam” or “junk mail” by these systems. A method to keep this from happening is to add the email address for the club to your contacts. We send an email every Thursday detailing what the chef will have for us on Thursday nights. If you don’t receive it, check your email spam folder for it. If it is in there, most email systems give you the option to mark it as from a trust-ed sender or “not spam.” We want you getting all the latest from the club and hope this helps.
I’m pretty sure Summer has arrived! Enjoy!! Speaking of enjoying – come down & enjoy our beautiful new swimming pool. There are still a few finishing touches to take care of but it is open for swimming. The offi-cial “Grand Opening” is scheduled for July 4
th. A Huge Thank You to Patrick Holifield and Elvis Gates for
all of their hard work and dedication to getting this project accomplished. We have some beautiful new chairs, tables, umbrellas & lounge chairs thanks to the Deck Hands headed by June Wiggins. June did a great job furnishing the pool area. Another thing to enjoy is that the club is going to be opening upstairs on Sundays, beginning June 9
th. The
hours will be 1:00-6:00pm. We will have a limited menu (burgers, hot dogs, fries, etc.) that will be available to purchase. ALSO, a reminder that due to ABC Regulations, you may NOT bring your own beer or alco-hol to the club – upstairs or downstairs – if the club is OPEN. An example – if you come down on a Sunday and bring your own alcoholic drinks, you can enjoy them until the club opens at 1:00pm. After that time , all alcoholic drinks MUST be purchased from the club until we close. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in this matter. May was a busy month starting with our Cinco de Derby – a smashup party celebrating Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby. Thank you to Sandy Pace, Shelda Jones, Elvis & Melissa Gates, Kathleen Kranz, Susan Woodward, Lon Moran and Joe Fleming for all your help. Our Junior Sailors had a Crawfish Boil Fundraiser on Saturday the 11
th. We had live entertainment by Deja
Veaux, crawfish and all the trimmings and Erin’s wonderful Coconut Cake. Everything was great and a big thank you to Bo Clarke, Ed & Becky Keefer, Ed Fitzgerald, Erin Keefer, Khloe Ohliger and all the other jun-iors - hopefully some funds were raised! Mother’s Day Brunch on the 12
th was very nice, even though Mother Nature was raining on us a little!
Sandy Pace took care of the pancake station (delicious) which was done this year instead of a waffle sta-tion and that was a nice change. Bo Clarke made his awesome “made-to-order” omelets and I certainly did not hear any complaints (about anything for that matter). The tables looked beautiful and the food was de-licious. A very big thank you to Bo Clarke, Sandy Pace, Shelda Jones, Joe Fleming, Angie Johnson, Rik Dew, Susan Woodward, Barry Skellie and our very helpful young busboy Shane Patrick Walker. As I al-ways say, it takes a village and we appreciate all the villagers. If I left anyone’s name off, it certainly was not done intentionally. We couldn’t do without all of you! We’d like to thank Bo Clarke for treating us to live entertainment by Kelsey Moran and her band for Grill Your Own this past Thursday. Kelsey’s music is always a treat and I think everyone enjoyed the evening! Remember - we continue to have Thursday night’s Grill Your Own with great sides by Chef Daniel. Sandy Pace continues to prepare tasty, very reasonable Friday night dinners & delicious desserts on Thursday nights as well. If there is something you would like Chef Daniel or Sandy to prepare, please mention it and we’ll do our best to provide! Please check the calendar & newsletter for what’s going on in June & all up-coming events. Also, look for flyers & reminders that might be on our website, sent to you via email or text, or on the tables at the club, and, as always, see you at your club!

Things are looking up at the yacht club nowadays. A brand new swimming pool is already in and new members are coming in. And you can enjoy the experience of sitting on the deck overlooking that pool, enjoying an adult beverage and perhaps an inexpensive and delicious meal while wait-ing for the random drawing for that $50 bar tab just for being on premises. Let's see who just did that in May. Sandy Pace, Patty Keith, Ed Keefer, Zoran Whelan and Skip Cox were the lucky ones, although several of those had already left the building at drawing time. Stay, have a good time and maybe YOU will be that night’s winner!

Junior Sailing News Erin Keefer
We would like to thank everyone who came to the crawfish boil last month. Many people helped us host this fun-filled event. Thank you to Bo Clarke for boiling the crawfish, Julie Noble for making sure we had everything we needed, Sandy Pace for doing a great job behind the bar, and Deja Veaux for providing entertainment. This past month two junior sailors, Evan Garrison and Joel Grumme, raced in the Spring Regatta and Buccaneer Yacht Club in Mobile Bay, which was breezy as ever that weekend. At the end of May, Grant Johnson, Jordan Previto, and Evan Garrison will be attending a four-day US Sailing Level 1 Small Boat Instructor course at Fairhope Yacht Club to obtain their certifications. Over the past months, they have been preparing for the course by obtaining their boater’s safety, CPR, and first-aid certifications. During the class, they will meet the criteria for boating safety and instruction on and off the water, as well as program development. These young men are the future of our sailing program, and we thank you all for supporting them! Lastly, sail camp begins the first week of June and lasts through the month. We still have spots available, so please enroll your children and grandchildren and spread the word! Smooth sailing, Erin and Ed Keefer
Here are what some past sail campers had to say about our great program:
