• We would like to give you an overview of some of the more advanced classes we offer at GCHS in our AICE and Advanced Placement programs.

What is the difference between Pre-AICE and AICE?

• AICE: Advanced International Certificate of Education

• 9th grade: Students may take Pre-AICE classes. The purpose of Pre-AICE is to prepare students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in future advanced studies courses. (Ex. Pre-AICE Spanish prepares students to take AP/AICE Spanish courses)

• 10th, 11th and 12th grade: Students can participate in AICE classes even though they may not wish to earn the diploma.

Do colleges and universities accept AICE courses and the AICE Diploma?

• All Florida Universities award college credit for AICE courses just as they do for AP.

• Over 450 US universities accept AS and A Level courses including all Ivy League universities.

What do students have to do to earn an AICE Diploma?

o Students must pass the AICE exams to earn

points to get the diploma.

o Obtain at least 7 credits within 25 months

o Obtain at least 1 credit in each of 3 main

curriculum groups

o Earn 1 credit of AS Global Perspectives o Apply to Cambridge for the AICE Diploma

senior year

Bright Futures

• The AICE Diploma can lead to a Florida Academic Bright Futures Scholarship– ACT/SAT test scores and GPA

requirements are waived– Students must earn 100 hours of

community service

Advanced Placement Program

The AP program provides college level courses and exams in various subject areas for students in secondary schools. More than 2,900 universities and colleges world wide grant credit, advanced placement , or both to students who have performed satisfactorily on the exams.AP Exams are taken each May and are paid for by the school district.
