It’s important to help your children talk about mental
health. By speaking openly, we start to break down the
taboos and your children might be more likely to come back
to you should they have difficulties in the future. l

The first Heart Pacemakers had to be
plugged into a wall socket.
On Tuesday 21st January, HealthWatch
Calderdale ran its first Enter & View
Training. The training was an essential part
of the Enter & View recruitment process
and was facilitated by Marcella from
Healthwatch Bradford & District.
Successful applicants were then invited to
attend the Enter & View training and learn a
bit more about the role, reasons for E&V
visits, Codes of Conduct and Safeguarding.
A more in depth Safeguarding session is also
scheduled for early February.
Pending successful Disclosure & Barring
Service (DBS) checks, our newly trained
volunteers will then be able to start their
Enter & View visits in Health & Social Care
settings across Calderdale.
If you have any concerns about the quality of
care received in a Health & Social care

Calderdale Help in Bereavement Service
(CHIBS) offers a unique, free, befriending
service that provides emotional support to
bereaved adults and children over the age of
5 years living in the Calderdale area.
Support is offered on a one-to-one basis in
your own home or at a mutually agreed
venue if preferred.
Most Befrienders have suffered bereavement
themselves and so have their own
understanding of the many thoughts and
feelings of desolation that grief can bring.
This helps them to understand and be
sensitive to the needs of the bereaved.
The service is free and all Befrienders are
volunteers who have undergone professional
training which is updated regularly and have
also undertaken an enhanced CRB check.
To contact CHIBS, please ring their telephone
helpline 0845 0099220 or visit
www.chibs.org.uk
The Turning Point exists to offer help to
those who need someone to talk to -
someone who will listen and understand,
someone specially trained, someone they
can trust. Though the project is
Christian based, you do not have to be a
Christian to use the service. Issues of
faith and spirituality are discussed only if
you raise them.
When you call you will be offered a first
appointment and given more
information. If you are happy a
counsellor will be chosen especially for
your circumstances and the help will
begin.
This could be the Turning Point in your
life! For more information please visit

Dementia UK has today called on the care
industry to support its Time for a
Cuppa campaign; an annual fundraising
event, which runs from 1st – 8th March.
Time for a Cuppa is dedicated to raising
money to provide more Admiral Nurses -
highly trained mental health nurses provided
exclusively by Dementia UK to families and
individuals who are affected by dementia.
Unfortunately there are not nearly enough
Admiral Nurses in the UK and it is now a
‘postcode lottery’ as to who will receive this
vital help.
Joanna Westley, Head of Fundraising and
Communications at Dementia UK explains:
“Time for a Cuppa is a great social activity
for staff and residents at care homes, and
our fundraising pack and website contain
some fantastic resources for anyone looking
for inspiration, including games and recipe
ideas.

fundraising pack, visit

On Thursday 6 February, Time to Change will
be asking more people than ever to come
together on a single day to show that it’s
time to talk about mental health.
They are aiming to inspire a million
conversations about mental health and they
need your help to get there.
The first ever Time to Talk Day will take
place on 6th February 2014 and is part of
Time to Change’s latest campaign to show
that "it's the little things which make a big
difference" when it comes to supporting
someone with a mental health problem.
There are simple things you can do now to
get involved in the day:
Think about whether you could organise
an activity on 6th Feb to support Time
to Talk Day in your workplace, school,
or just with your friends & family.
Help spread the word that the day is
happening. Tell your friends, family and
colleagues, tweet using #timetotalk and
put a message on Facebook.

On Time Campaign to make sure that the
thousands of people with Parkinson’s
admitted into UK hospitals each year get
their medication on time - every time. If
people with Parkinson's don't get
their medication on time, their ability to
manage their symptoms may be lost.
Parkinson’s UK has created a free Get It
On Time washbag. The washbag contains
a guide full of tips and advice and other
materials to help you stay in control of
your medication during your hospital

Early Egyptians believed that the heart and other major organs had wills of their own and would move around inside the body.
Valentine's Day is a great time to think about your heart health.
Why not use the occasion to mark the beginning of some small, sustainable diet
and lifestyle changes? It could be the start of some real improvements to you and
your partner's heart health.
Food of love Strawberries are packed full of antioxidants and a handful counts towards 1 of your 5-a-day. They also make a wonderful dessert; just don’t smother them in cream! A gift to share Instead of chocolates, why not buy your partner a gift that could benefit both your hearts - a dance or exercise class is something you can both do together. A romantic stroll Show someone you love them by sharing a 30 minute brisk walk everyday. It’ll help keep both your hearts healthy, be great for your fitness and it’s free too! Dinner for two Show that extra bit of thought by cooking a surprise meal at home rather than going to a restaurant. Make it a heart healthy recipe and you'll definitely show how much you care.
