Business After Hours - Chamber Network Advantage We really jingled and mingled in December, with

two Christmas themed mixers.

Thank you to Cross Creek Resort for hosting

your annual Christmas mixer and giving us the oppor-

tunity to network with members from Venango, Ti-

tusville and Meadville area chambers.

Thanks to Stifel for sponsoring our Christmas

Business After Hours at the Chamber office. We had

some delicious goodies from local caterers, drinks,

and lots of holiday cheer! Thank you to our building

mates Myers Custom Woodworks and One of a Kind

matter what time they are in town. Ads are available

in three sizes, at affordable monthly rates.

We would love the opportunity to discuss your

membership and see what we can do for you. And

as an added bonus, if you sign up before the end of

January, we are offering 20% off to get your decade

started on the right foot! Call us today!

Director’s Report

The new decade is going to start with some changes at the office. As you know, my Execu-tive Assistant, Mike Dulaney, was elected County Commissioner and will take the oath of office on January 6.

Our receptionist, Brianna Johnson, is moving on as well. She is finishing her Junior year at Clarion University and looking to find work that is more relat-ed to her Social Services career path. Best wishes, Bri! I am excited to see where life leads you.

And, the Board will be having a make-over. Long-time Board members and contributors to our Cham-ber finished their terms in December. Rick Beith and Dave Ballard will have a free slot on their meeting schedules. I still have their emails and cell phone numbers and won't let them miss me for too long. THANK you both for all you've done for the Cham-ber, for the community, and for me. Your support has meant so much.

I am excited for all of us as we enter a new decade

and continue to work together building bigger and

better relationships as we continue to make our region

the best place to work, live, and play! ~

2020 is looking bright for STEM education at

Franklin Area Junior Senior High School. Building

on some recent successes in competitions and the

classroom, these kids are about to take on some

more world-class challenges! On back-to-back days

in February, the FAJSHS is going to come alive

both in the air and on the ground!

Thursday, February 20, will be one of the first

RAD competitions held in the world! This competi-

tion sponsored by the REC Foundation and FTW

Robotics will match teams against one another and

the clock! The RAD Competitions have two com-

ponents in 2020 – Drone Racing and Package De-

livery. In Drone Racing, the object of the game is

to navigate the racecourse and land on the starting

platform faster than your opponent. In this head-to

-head simultaneous race, you will have to avoid ob-

stacles as well as your opponent! In Package Deliv-

ery, the object of the game is to navigate the race-

course, accurately delivery the payload and return to

the starting platform as quickly as possible. Students

will learn to safely operate a drone, work as a team,

and research workforce applications of aerial robot-

ic technology; all while having a blast!

On Friday, February 21, the FHS Gym will

come alive with the Clash at the Castle! This VEX

EDR robotics competition showcases student de-

signed and built robots that play against one anoth-

er in a game-based engineering challenge. Class-

room STEM concepts are put to the test as stu-

dents learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership,

communications, and more. Top teams from this

event will qualify for the Western PA State Champi-

onships in March where they will vie for a spot at

the VEX Robotics World Championship in Ken-

tucky!

Both events are free and open to the public.

Bright Outlook for Robotics Program One Tank Get-Away Show Planned

For the first time, the

Franklin Area Chamber of

Commerce will host a ONE

TANK GET-AWAY travel

show on Saturday, March 28,

from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. We

have the most beautiful region this side of the state,

and we want to spread the word.

This show is created for those who need a day

trip or a weekend get-away and can do such by visit-

ing Franklin and returning home on - you guessed it -

one tank of gas.

March is the perfect time for such an event ... we

are all itching to get out of the house and do some-

thing. Why not visit Franklin and do something with

us for the day? We'll roll out the red carpet and wel-

come everyone to the region.

Advertising for this event will be geared to those

in the Erie, Pittsburgh, Youngstown, Warren, and

DuBois area. If you are signed up by the February

1st deadline, we’ll add your name to the advertising.

If your business is a destination...whether for the

outdoor enthusiasts, for the foodies, for the shop-

pers, or for the sight-seers, you’ll want to join us!

The cost: $70.00 (if signed up by February 1,

or $85.00 from February 1 through March 1) and a

door prize. The cost includes an 8' table and cover.

Coffee and light refreshments will be available for

vendors; sack lunches will be available for purchase.

The travel show has been scheduled in conjunc-

tion with the Fly Fishing Film Tour that will be held

at Barrow-Civic Theatre, www.barrowtheatre.com.

If you would like to participate, please fill out the

enclosed form and return it to us by February 1. If

you need more information or have questions, call

According to an announcement

from PA Rep. R. Lee James, The

House Health Committee made a

monumental vote to keep Polk and

White Haven state centers open in December, de-

spite Gov. Tom Wolf’s call to close them both.

James said, “Like so many people in the district,

I was appalled at the governor’s request, especially

since he had not even visited Polk to see the center

and the incredible care its residents receive each day.

From hearings to rallies, I have been actively

fighting this injustice in Harrisburg.”

As Senate Bill 906 passed the House Health

Committee, it will now advance for a vote by the full

House.

As we end one year and begin

both a new year and a new decade,

let’s all resolve to be more positive on

social media in 2020.

The world is filled with enough

contention and negativity without

multiplying it on social media. These

serve only to magnify and expand the

effects on even more people. It can

also affect our personal, supporter

and client relationships.

Whether you use social media for personal, work

or volunteer purposes, keep in mind the image that

you are portraying to the world and who is going to

see what you post. Employers and future potential

employers, co-workers, clients and potential clients,

current and potential supporters, friends, family, pro-

fessional peers…these are just some of the people and

relationships that can be affected by what they see and

read on your social media.

Some people will say, “I don’t care, it’s my page

and I’ll share what I want. If they don’t like it, they

don’t have to follow me.” While this is true, why

would you want to alienate people? Why damage or

ruin existing or possible new relationships? If you’re

not worried about hurting others, at least worry about

how you will hurt yourself with negative and contro-

versial posts.

Social Media has the potential to be a great tool

for you to build relationships, both personally and

professionally, if you use it properly. It is the ultimate

networking and relationship building tool – when you

can’t connect in person – making it easy to keep in

touch and share things that matter to your crowd.

Take a look back on your posts in 2019. What

kind of impression did they give your followers? What

kind of attitude did they project? Do you like what

you see in those posts? You may find

that you see ups and downs in your

tone, which is emotionally normal for

most people, but not good on social

media. If you are feeling down or an-

gry, call or visit your best friend or a

family member, but keep your mes-

sage on social media positive.

As we enter the year 2020, let’s all re-

solve to keep our posts positive,

cheerful and uplifting. Use it to make people feel bet-

ter about you and their relationship with you. Use it to

make them feel better about themselves. Use it to gain

customers and build better relationships, goodwill and

community. Share the happy, positive, funny, uplift-

ing, inspirational, educational, entertaining, feel-good

kind of messages that can turn social media into your

greatest brand builder.

In 2020, Gibbons Business Solutions, LLC is go-

ing to take its positive social media efforts a step fur-

ther. We are going to pay-it-forward by committing to

one free paid social media post for 20 businesses/

organizations who need a boost in 2020. These posts

will focus on the positive and help them promote

their business or organization.

If you know of a business or organization that

would benefit from a Pay-it-Forward post in 2020, tell

us about them. And look for ways you can help others

by sharing positive posts on social media in 2020 and

beyond!

Wishing you prosperity and growth in 2020!
