Yep, he was home and someone had hacked his email addy and was using it to send out a plea to all in his address book contacts in order to scam money. Being the person I am, I enjoy leading idiots down the garden path and enjoyed the next 3 days leading this idiot, in the Phillipines, into believing that I had sent him $2500au dollars to Western Union for him to pick up. After the initial contact between the scammer and myself, the scammer slightly changes the email address ( usually a hot- mail or yahoo email service ) and if you don’t pay attention, you won’t notice this change. It might only be a letter or number, but enough that your email replies are no longer going to the original addy. Amazing how long you can have these idiots dangling when they think they are getting money out of you. I sent him various receipt numbers for the money I had sent to Western Union. He is still wondering why he can’t access the money I have left for him. Considering the “plane” was leaving in an hour, I had them on the line for 3 days. MANSLAUGHTER AT GOULBURN Edward Byrd and George Makins were charged with having on

the 24th of March at Goulburn, killed one G. W. Gotwald.

Mr. Want, instructed by Mr. Wilkinson appeared for the prisoner

Makins. The prisoner Byrd was undefended.

The crown-prosecutor briefly stated the case for the crown, quot-

ing a case in point to show that both parties were equally guilty, as

they were both engaged in an unlawful act, and were acting in

concert.

The evidence in this case was fully given in the report of the in-

quest. The two prisoners were riding at a furious rate in Union-

street, North Goulburn, where Byrd's horse knocked down a

child named George William Gotwald, who was crossing the street.

The case was one of manslaughter arising from the negligence of

prisoner in riding at an improper rate in a public street.

After hearing the evidence Mr. Want addressed the jury. His

Honor having summed up, The jury retired, and after an absence of

half an hour, returned with a verdict of guilty against both prison-

ers, and recommended them both to mercy.

Mr. Want read one or two characters given to Byrd, and

Ambrose Bryant the master of the two prisoners gave them also a

first-rate character. Prisoners were remanded for sentence. The court

then adjourned till Monday.

SENTENCES

Edward Byrd and George Makins, convicted of manslaughter,

were sentenced, the former to be imprisoned in Goulburn jail for

one month, and the latter for one week.

Gardening in November

Spring at last but do not put the winter woollies away just yet.

At the moment the gardens are looking just great after all the rain

the azaleas are in full bloom also the various lilacs are really mak-

ing a colourful statement. Why not try growing a yellow or or-

ange mollis azalea as they really brighten the garden. Prune for-

sythia and lilacs after flowering. All the fruit trees are in full

bloom so this should guarantee a good crop later. Watch out for

fruit fly in the warmer weather.

The ground is still moist after the very wet winter so start planting your summer salad vegetables if you have not yet done so plant

lettuce, beetroot, celery, cucumber, leeks, pumpkin, radish , zuc-

chini. Plant a container of herbs to garnish the summer salads.

Keep tomatoes well watered being careful not to moisten the

leaves. Feed raspberries, blackberries and hybrid vines with sul-

phate of potash.

Clear any rubbish from around the house before the bushfire sea-

son and get rid of the wood pile from near the house, keep the

lawns cut and well watered to form a barrier around the house.

And watch out for our slithering friends of which many have al-

ready been seen around the area.

Just keep busy.

Every two weeks I attend the Goulburn Blood Bank in Auburn St, and donate plasma which takes about 1.5 hours for the process to complete & can produce 17 different life saving products from that one donation. I used to attend and donate whole blood but you can only do that every 12 weeks which saves 3 lives. The girls down at the Blood Service are absolute crackers and you will thoroughly enjoy your time down there with them, have a few milk shakes and snacks before leaving and you know that your donation will be di-rectly used in a life saving situation. It is a great feeling to know that you are helping people that you might not even

Goulburn Herald Monday 11 April 1881

CARE IN DISPOSING OF MATCHES. - Too much care cannot

be exercised in disposing of matches. The danger of leaving them

accessible to rats and mice is forcibly illustrated by what took place

at the offices of Messrs. R. Harnett junior and Co. in George-street

on Thursday night. A packet containing six boxes of tandstickor matches had been left, together with a box of French vestas, in a

table drawer. The vestas were near the other matches, and were con-

tained in a fancy box made of cardboard. All the heads of the

matches were lying one way, and at the top of the box. During the

night a rat ate through the upper part of the box, but near the lower

end of it. The animal then drew a match through the hole, and while

nibbling it caused it to ignite. The fire communicated with some

paper in the drawer, and then with the packet of tandstickors. The

paper was consumed, as was also a portion of the paper envelope of

the matches, besides which the lower and of one of the boxes of

tandstickors also became ignited. Owing probably to the absence of

any draught, the fire seems to have almost instantly died out. Had it not been that there was no draught in the drawer, there would proba-

bly have been an extensive fire. If instead of the lower end of the

tandstickors becoming ignited, the heads had been consumed, there

is little doubt that even the absence of draught would not have been

sufficient to have prevented a serious fire breaking out. The fact was

recently reported of a rat which had set its for on fire rushing about

some business promises and communicating the fire to various parts

of them. It is a thing however which is very rarely known to happen.

Continued from P1 Relocation of the crushing train to a lower position behind stock-

piles may provide further noise suppression.

Traffic management issues relating to signage and speed restric-

tions will be referred to Council’s Traffic Management Commit-

tee.

A number of questions asked by Bungonia residents were put to Multiquip representatives.

-Can air, water and noise data be published in the Bungonia Times?

Yes, pending review of planned publication by company reps.

-Have Section 94 contributions been paid to Council? S94 pay-

ments are due and will be calculated by Council on a quarterly ba-

sis.

-Does Dept. of Planning NSW conduct environmental testing? No,

Multiquip subcontracts testing and is required to publish results and

notify Dept. of Planning.

-Is Multiquip crushing on site? Yes,

and plans to retain a crushing operation

onsite.

-Has the Landscape Management Plan

been implemented? Not yet, due to ‘operation not yet commenced’ status.

-Has the vegetation offset area been

implemented? 2-3 areas have been

fenced off to enable tree growth and an

area has been identified for plant nursery

activities.

-A dust complaint has been lodged.

Multiquip accepts that instances of

higher than desirable dust levels have

been measured. Additional water spray-

ing on roads and conveyors may resolve

this and crushing will be shut down if weather conditions are unsuitable.

In conclusion, Dr. Paul Rutherford

from Dept. of Planning NSW noted a

number of issues in respect of Ardmore

Park were raised in a recent quarry audit but the Dept. was gener-

ally satisfied with Multiquip’s performance and considers Ard-

more Park to be compliant.

The Ardmore Park complaints line number is 0447275271

The Dept. of Planning NSW will take complaints relating to noise,

dust and the transport route. Noise and dust will be passed on to

the EPA. To complain or comment phone the Southern Region

Compliance/Complaints team or use the website.

Next CCC meeting 17/3/2017.

Noise, dust and water monitoring The most recent noise investigation, 16/3/2016, was carried out by

SLR Consulting Australia Pty Ltd in response to a noise com-

plaint from a resident. The investigation found noise emissions

from the quarry ranged from less than 15dBA to 35 dBA. Accord-

ingly, the noise emissions from the quarry comply with the 36dBA

Project Approval noise limit. The investigation also noted wind

conditions were, on occasion, outside the weather conditions under

which Project Approval noise limits apply (greater than 10.8 km/

hr).

The most recent water level & water quality testing was carried

out by Larry Cook Consulting Pty Ltd on 28/7/2015. The results concluded:

-natural pH values are near neutral.

-EC (electrical conductivity) levels reflect the composition of the

geological formation.

-the moderate salinity of the springs reflects proximity to remnant

basalt layers.

-charting of water level data and water quality test results will be

undertaken following accumulation of sufficient data. Charting will

recommence following receipt of results from the next round of

monitoring/testing.

-Dust deposition testing is carried out by Eurofins Mgt. Results

for 2016 (to date) are shown below. The EPA sets acceptable depo-sition of solids at 4 grams per metre squared per month. Sample

sites 1, 2 and 3 are adjoining residences, site 4 is Ardmore Park.
