COMMANDER’S COLUMN
Dear Compatriots,
I hope everyone is doing well. As The Bruce Post keeps moving forward this Holiday Season, let us try to remember that there are young service-members serving around the world helping to defeat evil. God Bless Them! I want to let everybody know that we still have the largest post in Michigan and we had the most new members recruited in the state. Congrats to our team and everyone that encouraged Veterans to join. So if we see new faces around...please make them feel wel-comed and introduce ourselves. Thank you. Anne Pemberton, The Hall Manager, did a Great job this sum-mer! Thank You! I hope to see you all on Veterans' Day! The Big Hall doors open at 10am and the service will begin at 11am. The Clubroom will open following the ceremony and will feature Happy Hour Prices ALL DAY!! Enjoy the rest of the year and enjoy the camaraderie and good times in The Clubroom this winter, it's a nice place to hang out. Thank you again for all of your continued support and encourage-ment as the VFW goes strong into 2019!

Greetings Comrades,
One thing that has come to mind when recruiting and signing new
members is that we must encourage them to attend meetings
and get involved in the operation of the Post. Membership is not
just about numbers on a piece of paper. It’s about planning the
future of the Bruce Post. We cannot allow ourselves to fall into the
trap of assuming the same people will always be able to hold of-
ficer positions, handle fundraising, take care of the building,
etc. Again, I am challenging each of you to recruit one new mem-
ber. To quote General Patton: “Accept the challenges so that you
can feel the exhilaration of victory”.

Fall is finally here, and personally I am enjoying the cool-

States Navy and all who served. Unfortunately, I failed to mention

Hello Fellow Members,
Hope this finds you all well. We are moving into the holiday season and I wish you all the happiest and safest of Holidays. Just a few reminders, our Feather Party Fund Raiser is being held on Nov. 3rd. Come out and have some fun with us. The kids Halloween Party was a great success and I would like to thank all those who came out to support this event. The kids had a great time. The kids Christmas Party will held on Dec. 22nd from 12 to 2. Santa will be visit-ing with us so make sure to sign your kids/grandkids up. I am attaching the flyer/sign-up sheet with this article. Please place the form in the Auxiliary mail box lo-cated in the club room. You can also text me the names and ages of the children you want to sign up at (586) 322-1575. The Children must be signed up No Later Than December 15th, 2018. Our meetings are held the 1st Thursday of the month at 7:30, and we would ap-preciate more participation from our members. Please consider attending a meeting. Also, we will be celebrating the Christmas holiday at our meeting in De-cember with a pot luck immediately after the meeting. Our meeting will start at 7:00.

Auxiliary #1146 meeting day is 1st Thursday of the month at 7:30pm in the
hall upstairs. The next meetings are 11/1, 12/6 and 1/3 unless otherwise an-

for new members.
VFW Auxiliary (Men & Women) that are eligible to join are those that had one of the following relations
receive a campaign medal for overseas service:

Grandfathers/Grandmothers Grandsons/Granddaughters
Applications can be found in the VFW Bruce Post #1146 Clubroom on the wall by the pool tables, in the
Quartermasters office and in the G‐2. You can also ask any member.
Membership Forms ‐ ALL new members MUST attach a copy of the DD214 & check with the
completed form. Make sure to sign both spots!! If paying by card, you must sign that section as well.
REMINDER: IF JOINING UNDER SOMEONE WHO IS A POST MEMBER, YOU STILL NEED TO SHOW PROOF
OF ELIGIBILITY.
Continuous Member – (pays yearly/rate may change) ‐ $25 + $10 one‐time only administrative fee
Life Member – Rate based on age at end of year (see application) +$10 one‐time only administrative fee.
Converting Your Membership – Continuous members can convert to Life Member and you will not pay
the $10 admin fee as you already did when you joined.

Reminder to those filling out an application:
Please make sure you fill in the eligibility under which you are joining. Without that, your
application will be held up until the proper paperwork is received.
Please be patient. Once we receive your application, it has to be reviewed and approved by the
investigating committee and then approved on the floor at the next meeting. We only meet
once a month.
Do you know someone who is eligible and would like to join? Take them an application. We are always
looking for new members. Remember, recruit! Recruit! RECRUIT! Let’s all try to recruit at least one new
member.
