Our Fall Festival, held on Saturday, October 23, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the South Park, was a great success. Thank goodness the rain held off until later that day!

Kudos and a big THANK YOU to all the BVHA board members who worked so hard to make the Fall Festival a success: Larry Wilhelm, JoAn Neubacher, Bob Olson, Dan Schultz, and Chris and Scott Moore. THANKS also goes out to former board member Lisa Walbrook who volunteered and contacted the Canton Police and Fire departments and got them to stop by for a visit.

Board member Dan Schultz donated a 7-Up field goal for the football throw and also a 12 foot inflatable Frankenstein, and everyone had fun having their picture taken next to the monster. Board member Larry Wilhelm got the Michigan Humane Society to donate a tent and tables. Fran Wilhelm purchased the goodie bags, candy, and toy gifts given away to winners of all the games. THANK YOU Dan, Larry, Fran, and Rich!

THANK YOU to Dan Trosper of Mickey’s Golf Range (just west of the railroad tracks on Cherry Hill) for donating 4 putters and flags for the putt putt golf green.

In addition, there was a soccer kick and sack race which all ages enjoyed.

THANK YOU to board member Chris Moore, BVHA Events Coordinator, who dressed up and handed out the pumpkins. Chris also made and installed signs at the subdivisions entrances announcing the Fall Festival and collected bottles to help raise money for the festivities.

2010 BROOKSIDE VILLAGE FALL FESTIVAL

LEAVES, GRASS CLIPPINGS, AND MULCH When raking and bagging leaves please be aware of any storm drains in front of your house. Clearing them will help prevent blockages that become ice hazards in the streets during cold weather. Do not blow or rake leaves into the streets, for the same reason. Also, please take a few minutes to clear the leaves away from the gutters and sewer drain areas to prevent drain blockage. Do not place leaves in creeks or waterways, as it will build up and create a problem with water flow. Thank you for your help in keeping our neighborhood safe and well maintained! CAR-RELATED THEFT ON CORONATION COURT According to the Canton Dept. of Public Safety, in September a Brookside Village resident living on the 200 block of Coronation Court locked her car doors but left the passenger side window rolled down. Her wallet, which was in the glove box, was stolen. Cash and gift cards were also taken. Please watch for suspicious looking individuals hanging around in our neighborhood, and remember to lock your cars and close the garage door before you go to bed! TURN ON OUTSIDE LIGHTS! School is back in session - thanks to all of you who take the time to turn on your lights, not only in the morning, but also in the evening. This is definitely a safety issue, since our community does not have street lights. Also, please watch your kids as they walk to and from their bus stops. Report any suspicious activity to the Canton Police: 734-394-5400. WINTER POND SAFETY The pond located south of Finley near Lotz is a retention pond designed to hold runoff from the streets. The water in the pond may contain oil, antifreeze, road, salt, and so on. The pond continuously drains into Fellows Creek.

Because of these factors, the pond never completely freezes, and should be considered UNSAFE for any type of activity, including ice skating or sledding. Parents - please make sure your children are aware of this!

SNOW ETIQUETTE FOR BROOKSIDE VILLAGE • In a snow emergency, move all vehicles

off the street as soon as possible to allow for snow plowing during snow falls of 2 inches or more

• Use brightly colored stakes to mark edges of property in the case of sprinkler systems, etc., to alert snow plow drivers of areas to avoid

• Please also mark fire hydrants with brightly colored stakes

• DO NOT PUSH SNOW FROM DRIVEWAYS AND SIDEWALKS INTO THE STREET

• Please help your elderly and/or disabled neighbors by clearing the snow in front of their mailboxes

• Under township ordinance, homeowners must remove the snow and/or ice from their sidewalks within 72 hours

The Brookside Village Homes Association will see that icy intersections are salted and school bus route sidewalks opposite common areas are cleared.

If you notice a hazardous icy condition in the subdivision please report it to 734-448-1312. ANNUAL CANTON TREE LIGHTING EVENT On Wednesday, December 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the official holiday tree of Canton will be lit in front of the Summit. There will also be special family festivities that will take place both inside and outside at Heritage Park.

Activities include visits with Santa, seasonal entertainment, and refreshments. This event is free, no registration is required. A suggested $5 donation per family is appreciated.

BVHA NEEDS HELP NOW! For several months, we have advertised the need for help within your homes association. Of the 620 residents, we have less than 10 people willing to give a few hours each month! Everyone presumes someone else will do the work, but that is not happening!

Our board members have families, hardships, and health, work, and school issues just like you. We are all volunteers, receiving no compensation. We need help with bookkeeping, answering voice mail and e-mail, editing the Bugle, and more. If we are not successful in acquiring new members, we will be forced to get a management company. Services will not necessarily improve, but annual dues could at least triple! The Board meets just once a month for 1 to 1-1/2 hours. PLEASE give some serious consideration to bettering our neighborhood and sharing just a few hours of your time each month.

To volunteer, contact BVHA at 734-448-1312.
