The British Journal of Learning Disabilities

The British Journal of Learning Disabilities contains articles called “papers”. The papers are about learning disability. Some papers are written by people with learning disabilities. The journal is printed into booklets and published online. Click here to see the website.

Papers aim to improve our knowledge about the lives of people with learning disabilities. Knowledge comes from research; the articles in the journal are about new research.

Research means “finding out”. Research helps us to support people in new ways.

The papers are about things like:

z Advocacy and communication z Relationships and communities z Education and jobs z Families z Health and Social Care z Law and rights

The people who read the journal are academics (people who work in universities), students, social workers, NHS workers, families, and anyone who is interested in learning disability.

As well as papers about academic research, the journal prints:

z book reviews z Special Issues, which are just about one topic z opinions about journal papers (the “In Response” papers)

Some papers are written by people with learning disabilities who have been involved in research.

The editor asks experts to say what they think about the papers. This includes people with learning disabilities. This is called “reviewing” papers. Let us know if you are interested in doing this.
