1st: Acts 10: 34, 37-43

2nd: Colossians 3: 1-4

Gospel: John 20: 1-9

Dear Parishioners, We enter into Holy Week, in which we celebrate in mystery all of the aspects of our redemption in Christ. "The Sacred Paschal Triduum of the Passion and Resurrection of the

Lord shines forth as the highpoint of the entire liturgical year. The Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper, [and] has its centre in the Easter Vigil..."(Ordo 2019) The Good Friday liturgy of the Lord's Passion, also, is at the heart of the celebration of Easter, and is always a powerful impetus of our love for Jesus, the Christ of God, who now stands at the right of the Divine Majesty. Attending the Easter Ceremonies is a wonderful way to receive very many signal graces. I encourage you to attend all, or as many as possible, of them, as a most effective way to grow in the life of faith.

On behalf of everyone here at the parish office, and also of the community of the Fathers and Brothers of the Brisbane Oratory in formation, I would like to extend to everyone connected with this parish family a blessed and happy Easter.

Norma TORPEY, Josephine & Bill WRIGHT and Matthew ZEMEK.

All the faithful departed.

Refection Fathers and mothers of families should bring up their children virtuously, looking at them rather as God’s children than their own; and to count life and health, and all they possess, as loans which they hold of God. St Philip Neri

On the "Guarding of the Heart": Human thoughts and decisions are born in the heart; it is where intentions and aspirations emerge; it is the source of will and desires. Being attentive to the heart is first and foremost about dismissing evil thoughts and guarding the heart with sensitivity. Saint Macarius the Great teaches the following: [As with the eye] so it is with the mind toward the heart. The heart itself is a small vessel, yet there are also dragons and lions, poisonous beasts and all the treasures of evil. But there is also God, the angels, the kingdom, the treasures of grace." When the inner watchfulness of the intellect turns its attention to the heart, the person becomes liberated from flawed intentions and thoughts. The spiritual Fathers refer to this state as the quieting of the intellect. Internally watchful persons "see" themselves in the light of God's grace, and discover what is happening within the world of their interior self. They begin to perceive their secret inclinations and aspirations.

PROJECT COMPASSION 2019: Today, Palm Sunday, is the sixth and final week of Project Compassion, Caritas Australia’s

Lenten fundraising appeal. As we make the journey with Jesus this week, the readings call us to a

revolution of the heart, to take seriously our vocation as disciples of Jesus and as Isaiah reminds us

to be faithful to this call and "listen like a disciple."

With this in mind, perhaps the best way to travel this last week is to do so in the company of the

children, women and men who are most marginalised and vulnerable to extreme poverty and

injustice. This should be our focus for our prayers, fasting and almsgiving as Lent draws to a close.

Last year, with your help, Project Compassion raised around $11 million. This amount is testament

to your enormous generosity and compassion. Again this year you can make a difference and

contribute to hope for the most vulnerable people and their communities, here and around the

world. Lives change when you give 100% Hope for all starts with your support. Thank you.

Holy Rosary: The April Intentions for the Tuesday Rosary are for "those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to them! And for the Pope, the Bishops and the Priests through the intercession of Our Lady of Grace." It begins 10 minutes after the 7am Mass in Mary Immaculate Church. All welcome. Enquiries: Legion of Mary on 0421 258 418 (Bill].

Weekly Sunday Vespers T h e C h u r c h h a s l o n g encouraged the praying of public vespers, the official evening prayer of the Church, in parishes especially on Sundays, and has encouraged the laity to participate as something we can do to help sanctify the Lord’s Day. Palm Sunday Year C – 13th/14th April, 2019

MASS READINGS

First Reading: Isaiah 50:4-7 The Lord has given me a disciple’s tongue. So that I may know how to reply to the wearied, he provides me with speech. Each morning he wakes me to hear, to listen like a disciple. The Lord has opened my ear. For my part, I made no resistance, neither did I turn away. I offered my back to those who struck me, my cheeks to those who tore at my beard; I did not cover my face against insult and spittle. The Lord comes to my help, so that I am untouched by the insults. So, too, I set my face like flint; I know I shall be shamed.

The Word of the Lord

Response: Thanks be to God

Responsorial Psalm 21 (Said by all)

All who see me deride me. They curl their lips, they toss their heads. ‘He trusted in the Lord, let him save him: let him release him if this is his friend.’

Many dogs have surrounded me, a band of the wicked beset me. They tear holes in my hands and my feet, I can count every one of my bones.

They divide my clothing among them. They cast lots for my robe. O Lord, do not leave me alone, my strength, make haste to help me!

I will tell of your name to my brethren and praise you where they are assembled. ‘You who fear the Lord give him praise; all sons of Jacob, give him glory. Revere him, Israel’s sons.’

Second Reading: Philippians 2:6-11 His state was divine, yet Christ did not cling to his equality with God but emptied himself to assume the condition of a slave, and became as men are; and being as all men are, he was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross.

But God raised him up high and gave him the name which is above all other names so that all beings in the heavens, on earth and in the underworld, should bend the knee at the name of Jesus and that every tongue should acclaim Jesus Christ as Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The Word of the Lord

Response: Thanks be to God

Gospel Acclamation:

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, king of endless glory! Christ became obedient for us even to death, dying on the cross. Therefore God raised him on high and gave him a name above all other names. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, king of endless glory!

Gospel: Luke 22: 14-23: 56

The Passion of our Lord according to Luke

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Memorial Acclamation: Number One

We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again.
