Law Soc Speakers' Forum and Young Alumni Award: Rachel Davis Keeping the big guys honest is all in a day’s work for UNSW Law Alumna Rachel Davis (BA/LLB 03) who has won the 2013 UNSW Young Alumni Award. Rachel has spent the last decade ad-vancing human rights as a United Na-tions advisor and later as the founder and Managing Director of Shift.

Rachel's clients extend from govern-ment, such as those of the United States, Sweden, Germany and Peru, to giant multi-nationals such as Coca-Cola and Ericsson. Her most recent project involves helping Hitachi to roll out training on the Guiding Principles and implementing respect for human rights, including in its Chinese opera-tions. The Dean Professor David Dixon will

present the UNSW Young Alumni Award to Rachel on behalf of the Chancellor at this event.

College of Law Info Session The College of Law is holding an infor-mation session on Wednesday 7 August about their full-time on campus course at St Leonards. Many students enjoy this course as it suits their learning style and because they benefit from the additional face to face time with their

Women in Law Leadership Summit

The Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development (AYAD) Program provides skilled young Australians the opportuni-ty to volunteer overseas in Asia, the Pacific and Africa. The AYAD interna-tional volunteer program is an Australi-an Government, AusAID initiative sup-porting the Millennium Development Goals. Our volunteer work is committed to achieving sustainable development through capacity building, skills ex-change and institutional strengthening. The Spring Information sessions is an excellent opportunity for you to learn

more about the AYAD Program. Panellists of returned volunteers and Austraining staff will be sharing their experiences and stories, as well as advice about applying and what to ex-pect if successful. UNSW at ALSA 2013

Congratulations to the 2012 Court of Conference Editor Louisa Tan and her team for winning 'Best Equity Publica-

tion' for 2012/2013 at the ALSA Confer-ence! Congratulations also go to the UNSW LawSoc competitors at the ALSA Con-ference! Daniel Reynolds made it to the Grand Finals for Paper Presenta-tion, Melissa-Ann Gillies and Bec Stan-ley made it to the Semi-Finals for Client Interviewing, Benjamin Hee-nan and Connor Taylor made it to the Quarter Finals for Negotiations, Stepha-nie Lee made it to the Quarter Finals for Witness Examination and Alisha Mathew and Tim Clark made it to the Quarter Finals for the International Humanitarian Law Moot. Outstanding work was also put into the Champion-ship Moot by Maddie Hall, Will Rosewarne and Simin Yang.

And finally, thank you to our Co-President, Kara Grimsley who led the UNSW delegation to Perth!

Oxford University Press Competition To enter the Oxford University Press Competition, students are asked to create a 2 - 5 minute film around their top tips for studying law to educate, entertain and engage other law stu-dents. The winners will be those judged to be the most creative, instructive and original - anything that helps other stu-dents to connect with the study of law. Entries close Friday July 26, and there are some great prizes to win – with $1500 for first, $500 second and $250 third.
