From the Principal……….
From the Principal……….
Wow did our school year fly! I am pleased with all of the progress our students have made this year while at
Briarwood School!
I have seen friendships blossom, challenges overcome, and new risks taken! I am so proud of our school!
I want to personally thank the Briarwood School community, as I have enjoyed working closely with our
wonderful students and families for the past five years!
I will certainly miss everyone as I begin a Principal position that is closer to my home! Wishing the Briarwood
community all the very best and continued success!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Glaab

What’s Happening in Second Grade……………
In Reading, the second grade classes had a lot of fun forming book clubs. Some series of books
included Mercy Watson, Nate the Great, Stink and Magic Tree House. No matter what series
they were in, the children learned how to have productive conversations centered around the
characters in their series, retelling what has happened so far in their books and how their
series tend to go. Students really worked on strengthening their conversational skills with their
groups as they really got into their book series!
In Writer's Workshop, the classes dove into writing poetry. Our writers realized that poems do
not always have to rhyme but instead capture big feelings. Students worked hard adding sound
effects, precise words and repeated patterns to make their poems even stronger. We were also
thrilled to host an Author's Celebration at the beginning of June. Family members were invited
to come in and see all of the hard work the students put into Writer's Workshop this year. We
had a great time sharing our stories and were happy to see the smiles on our guests faces!
In Math, our second graders have had a fun time learning to graph. Students learned to collect
data and create different types of graphs based on their results. We have learned to create
picture graphs, bar graphs and line plots. As the year comes to an end, the kids are enjoying
reviewing all of the skills they have learned this year through review games and centers.
On June 10th, our second grade classes celebrated Step Up Day. Parents cheered their
children on as they made their way over to Brooklake to check out their new school. Like always,
it is a bittersweet moment but a moment filled with a lot of pride from both parents and
teachers.
Congratulations second graders! The staff here at Briarwood are very proud of you and know
you will do great at Brooklake!

What’s Happening in Preschool……………
Preschool has been very busy and focused on our unit about
"Balls"! We've been learning about the different kinds of balls,
how people use balls, what they are made of, what is inside of
them, and how high they can bounce. Now that it is getting nicer
outside, we have been so excited to play ball games and practice
bouncing, dribbling, rolling and kicking. It has been so much
fun! We were able to investigate different types of balls, ask
questions, solve problems, make predictions and test out our
ideas. We can't wait to continue practicing our ball skills over
the summer!
We also had our annual "Preschool Field Day"
event! We had an awesome time showing all of
our family and friends the progress we have
made with our gross motor skills this year, and
celebrating the end of a fun-filled year. Thank
you to everyone who came out to support
us! Wishing everyone a safe and happy
summer!
