Levers, Shirley Fern

Fern (affectionately known as Fernie to many) is remembered as the loved mother of Jim Levers and his wife

Claudette of Parksville, BC, Bonnie Barnett and her husband Bob of Cochrane, AB, Barry Levers and his wife Karyn of Breton, AB, and Heather Barrett and her husband Rod of Breton, AB.

Fern was the matriarch of a large family and created a legacy of which to be proud. She will be the sadly missed “Gram” and great “Gram” to Jackie (Brent), Taylor & Emma, Merry-Jo & Jacob, Vanessa (Kim), Lauren, Isaac & Naomi, Ken (D’ette), Cade, Zane & Jess, Ian (Tasha), Jasey & Emmett, Bobbi-Lynn (Chad),

MacKenna & Carson, Brennan, Breanna (Ryan), Jaxon, Emerson, Kamryn, McKenna & Ethan, Dallas (Mel), Sadie & Teagan, Shayanne (Lorne), Dalyce & Dylan.

She was predeceased by her beloved grandson Brandt, as well as her 5 brothers – Evans, Floyd, Reg, Wayne & Myles. She will be fondly remembered by her sister in laws, Myrtle, Norma and Marilyn, as well as being a

dear Aunt to several nieces and nephews and their families, extended family and dear friends.

Fern was “one of a kind” – she was a talented crafter whose artwork adorns many homes, she was passionate about her golf game and never had idle hands, to which her beautiful flowers and gardens were a testament

to. She was so very proud of all her grandchildren and great- grandchildren – singing their praises whenever she was able to…and they in return gave her a hard time about how often she “warshed” clothes and how

she never left the house without her hair done and looking fashionable. The opportunities she had to travel stayed with her as warm memories throughout her life and she often spoke of those times with family and

friends. Her love of dessert was known to all – and over these last few years her children made sure she had dessert first quite often.

Cremation has taken place, at which time her hair was curled and her outfit was beautiful. Due to Covid restrictions, a gathering will take place at a later date to celebrate her life with extended friends and family.

At this time Fern’s family will cry, eat, drink and celebrate every aspect of her personality and life.

Ferns’ family wishes to express sincere thanks to the doctors, staff and volunteers at the Breton Long Term Care facility for the care, compassion and love they have shown Fern over the last few years. It has not been

an easy journey and the care and concern for family during this time was truly appreciated. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the Piecemakers Quilt Club of Alder Flats for

the donation of the comfort quilt.

If so desired and as your expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Breton Long Term Care Facility, the Breton Cemetery or the Team Naomi - Get Well Now Foundation

We have taken steps for your safety by providing COVID-19 safety supplies as well as following all AHS protocols in limiting the number of attendees for functions.

LETTERS TOTHE EDITOR

All “Letters To The Editor” must be printed with the name of it’s author. Letters To The Editor are the opinions of those

who wrote them, not necessarily those of Community 39 Enterprises.

Dear Editor: As there is a movement towards publishing “sun-shine lists,” the following information is provided as a basis for public discourse. The numbers are taken from honoraria claims of Brazeau County Council from January to Decem-ber of 2019. Any errors are entirely those of the writer. Bart Guyon: $103,435.53Heidi Swann $ 61,774, 47Donna Wiltse $ 60,979.43Anthony Heinrich $ 55,482.16Marc Gressler $ 49,552,81Kara Westerlund $ 39,000 (plus RMA)Sara Wheale $ 47,578.24 These numbers raise some interesting ideas/ques-tions:· These people are paid “portal to portal” (time + mileage); who else in society is? Plumbers? Law-yers? Store clerks? If there has been a change in the portal to portal, it is very recent.· Jobillico (stats collector) numbers are $52,600 for full-time average for working people in Canada in 2019;· NO qualifications or training required to be a councillor; only parenthood matches this;· Per diems--$296 per day (portal to portal); this equals $37 per hour (national average Stats Can for 2018 is $26.83 per hour (overtime rates go berserk?);· Up until this year, 1/3 of their honorarium was tax free;· Resident concerns are an additional $1595 per month—who decides what value this is to the tax-payer? Where is the data to support this amount?· Telephone allowance is $275 per month—this writer’s phone with 5Gig of data and unlimited cross-Canada calling is $87 per month, including the cost of buying the phone;· Who decides the per diem amounts and who

approves the claims each month? Councillors do! Should there not be an arm’s-length oversight for this?· What role does the Rural Municipalities Asso-ciation (RMA) play in all of this? Taxpayers pay for its existence as well.· Take in a council meeting sometime and see for yourself if there is value for the money or you may also like to talk to someone who has taken in a meeting or two;· What other corporate entities place people in charge of a $40 Million budget and an entire gov-ernment document, the Municipal Government Act (MGA), to administer without appropriate creden-tials?· Why is there no oversight regarding the follow-ing policy; i.e., reports from out-of-province confer-ences? Compare the above to your own work situation. Ask your councillor how he or she justifies these numbers. More on all of this later. L. Oberle

Covenant Cornerfrom Pastor Jeff Gooderham

This bomb was tested above the Arctic Circle on October 30, 1961. The explosion was so in-tense that the flash was visible over 600 miles away. People felt the air move over 160 miles away. Everything in a radius of 15.25 miles was completely destroyed. Very severe damage extended to a distance of 21.5 miles & the heat was so intense that people over 60 miles away would have experienced third degree burns if anyone had been there. All this came from a bomb that was a little over 26 feet long & with a diameter of a little over 6 feet. It was large to be sure, but it was tiny when you look at the power it packed. The point was that a small package can deliver an absolutely incredible punch. The same is true of sin, many people view it as, “no big deal,” but God sees sin as a monster that brings incredible harm to those who are involved in it.

“If we say we have no sin, we deceive our-selves, and the truth is not in us. But….if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to for-give us our sins and to cleanse us from all un-righteousness.” 1st John 1:8-9

MP REPORTfrom The Office of MP Gerald Soroka, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead

Goodbye Purple MartinsFrom John Hawtin

Our Purple Martins have flown the nestThey think to go is clearly best.“When will you be back we cried?”“Next year again” they soon replied,“While COVID still is in the airPurple Martins will not despair”So winter well dear Purple Birds,Your happy song will soon be heard.

Improved Process to Notify Air Travellers Potentially Exposed to COVID-19

on Domestic Flights

OTTAWA: Gerald Soroka Member of Parlia-ment for Yellowhead wishes to advise that Transport Canada, provincial and territorial governments, public health authorities, and Canada’s largest air carriers have established a consistent approach for air carriers to col-lect and share passenger information neces-sary to alert Canadians of possible COVID-19 exposure while travelling by air, in compliance with applicable privacy legislation. This would facilitate timely contact tracing and exposure notification for passengers on domestic flights.

The national enhanced notification allows contact tracing to be done in a more consist-ent manner across all jurisdictions. If a public health authority deems it necessary to conduct contact tracing by notifying passengers direct-ly of possible COVID-19 exposure, complete and accurate passenger contact information will be readily available from Canada’s largest air carriers.

Provincial and territorial public health author-ities maintain authority and decision-making over contact tracing while the Public Health Agency of Canada provides guidance. As part of the improved process, passengers will be asked to provide contact information when they check-in for their flight with large Canadian air carriers.

For the latest travel health advice please go to: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/latest-travel-health-advice/exposure-flights-cruise-ships-mass-gatherings.html

Warburg Salt of the Earth Revival Church is sponsoring a 24 hour prayer vigil starting

Friday, September 25 at 6:00 PM through to Saturday, September 26 at 6:00 PM

at the Warburg Cultural Centre.

We are linking with The Return, an endeavor happening the same weekend from Washington

DC. This is an appointed time, and a specific day set apart for one purpose, a return to God

by coming before His presence in humility, sincerity, prayer and repentance.

Please contact Sandy Broadbent at [email protected]

for information and plan to join us.
