Divide the class into two groups, A and B, and give them copies of thecorrespondinglyrics(page4).Theyworktogethertocompletethegapswithanyofthewordsthattheyrememberfromthefirstlistening.Playthesongagain.

Askstudentstocomeupwithasloganfortheadvert.etsomefeedbackandthenplaythelastfewsecondsofthevideo.Whatdidstudentsthinkoftheadvert?(IntheUK,ithasbeencri=cisedfornotbeing“Christmassy”enough.)

EachpersonhasaminutetoexplainwhytheirgiE isthebestchoice.Onceeveryonehasspoken,theyhaveadiscussiontochoosethebestandworstgiE.FindoutwhichwasthebestandworstgiEineachgroupandthenaskthemhowwell they think they did the task. Give some feedback. Possible areas includepersuasive language, interrup=ngpolitely,agreeinganddisagreeingandtheuseofcompara=vesandsuperla=ves.Finally,saythatEllieGoulding’sversionofYourSongwasusedinthe2010JohnLewisChristmas advert. Send students the link towatch it at homeand reportbackonwhichonetheypreferredinthenextclass.
