TODAY is the START OF ADVENT the beginning of the Christian New Year
Sunday Readings: Year C (St Luke’s Gospel). Weekday Readings: Year 1.
In Advent, the Liturgy frequently repeats and assures us, as if to overcome our natural diffidence, that God “comes”: He comes to be with us in every situation of ours, He comes to dwell among us, to live with us and within us; He comes to fill the gaps that divide and separate us; He comes to reconcile us with Himself and with one another. He comes into human history to knock at the door of every man and woman of good will, to bring to individuals, families and peoples the gifts of brotherhood, harmony and peace. This is why Advent is par excellence the season of hope, in which believers in Christ are invited to remain in watchful and active waiting, nourished by prayer and by the effective commitment to love. Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI.
SICK & HOUSEBOUND: Each Advent (and Lent) the Oratory Fathers visit all Sick and Housebound Parishioners (list on page 2 of the Newsletter) for the Sacraments of Confession and Anointing the Sick. If you, or a Catholic relative or friend, need the Sacraments, or would like a Priest to visit, please inform the Parish Office (contact details overleaf).
Our Sick & Housebound have Holy Communion brought to them regularly by our Deacons and Extra-ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and are visited by members of our St Vincent de Paul Society.
Apostleship of the Sea - Stella Maris - at Christmas. The ships of the world, which bring us the many goods which we use each day, do not stop operating over the Christmas Season - so the seafarers who live on-board these ships are also working over the Christmas period, very far from home, and without contact with family or friends.
The Apostleship of the Sea (AoS), each year, seeks your kind donations of woolly hats and ever-popular Toblerone chocolate, as well as other personal items to support the many seafarers who work on the high seas. AoS also invites the Faithful to donate any extra rosaries, Bibles, or small crucifixes. Financial donations are also welcomed.
Our Lady, Star of the Sea. Pray for us!
For more information on how you can help, please contact your local parish AoS representative or Fr John Lavers: [email protected] Website: https://www.apostleshipofthesea.org.uk
THE DECEMBER MONTHLY NEWSLETTER has details of Confession times in preparation for Christmas, and all the Christmas Mass times, as well as other information and current news. Please keep it to hand through the month, and pass on a copy to those you pray for, and whom you could invite to accompany you to Mass at Christmas time.
S.V.P. FESTIVE TEA - 2PM THIS THURSDAY.
CATHOLIC CHURCH SHOP: This Sunday (2nd Dec) we’re selling Christian Christmas cards in the Main Hall, after the 10.30am Mass - for those who have yet to buy, or wish to top up their supplies. Come also for Real Coffee and home-made cake.
To help you prepare for Christmas celebrations at home or with friends, our Shop offers a great range of gifts - many regular items and some news ones - to encourage you to buy from us, to help support the work of the Oratory here in Bournemouth.
Create a warm atmosphere at home with our scented candles, cards, Nativity sets and children’s books.
Open: on Sunday after 10.30am Solemn Mass, at the rear of the Hall. Also weekday mornings 9am until 12 noon, via the Parish Office in Post Office Road where Sharon or Alba will be pleased to help you. _____________________________________________________________________________________

ST PHILIP NERI’S MAXIM (for 1st December): Frequent Confession is the cause of great good to the Soul, because it purifies it, heals it, and confirms it in the service of God: we ought not therefore to omit Confession on our fixed days* for any business whatsoever; but go to Confession first, and to business afterwards, and the first will help the last.
This Wednesday is an ideal opportunity to come to Confession at the start of Advent, and make New Year resolutions at the start of the Christian New Year. On the first Wednesday of every month there’s an extra hour for Confessions from 7.30 to 8.30pm. * The greatest Saints went to Confession frequently. Catholics who are serious about their Spiritual Life go to Confession in Advent and Lent and at least once a month. Pick up a helpful FREE leaflet in any Oratory Church.
