Gen5 GLOCKs-GREAT for the Shooting SportsAfter over a quarter century of competition, some “truisms” have emerged that are relevant to success in GSSF competition. This has also been true over decades in other shooting sports as well-in particular practical shooting. First, of course, one must have a reliable pistol, and GLOCK pistols are the paragon of reliability. In any competition, scores are kept to rank the competitors. With scoring in firearms competitions, targets usually have some sort of gradations to delineate hits that are closer to the center of the targets, versus ones that are further away from the point of aim. One could argue that steel targets do not have these specifications, but accuracy is still, finally important; a hit which barely grazes a steel plate may not impart enough energy to knock it over.At the end of the day, accuracy is of primary importance in GSSF and a high priority in other disciplines. The D1 cardboard targets used are large, but have scoring rings, as do IDPA/IPSC targets. Hits out of the center two rings bring a notable time penalty; a miss(which adds 10 seconds to the score) is devastating. The 8 inch plates on the “GLOCK the Plates” rack
seem seductively simple. GSSF Range Masters, however, have lost track of the number of times they have seen competitors shoot at “warp speed”, only to see their scores wrecked by penalty seconds added, including dreaded misses. Other disciplines penalize poor shooting, and misses are to be avoided by those who wish to improve and excel.GLOCK pistols of any generation possess more than enough accuracy to “clean”(shoot without any penalties added) any of the courses of fire. Because of governmental contract specifications, GLOCKs have for decades been capable of shooting on average four inch groups at 25 yards. Recent developments for both the US military and United States Federal Law Enforcement have reduced that measurement by over HALF in the GEN5 GLOCKs. The Gen5 GLOCKs have become the “must have” machine for competition. The “heart” of any firearm is its barrel. It is where the projectile begins its journey to the target, and is the last component of the firearm to influence that journey. The GEN5 GLOCKs, Models 17, 19, 26 and 34 all have the new GLOCK Marksman
Page 3
THE GLOCK REPORT
Barrel(GMB). This barrel is better by an order of magnitude over barrels of yesteryear. The reasons are as follows: first, the interior dimensions are different, tighter chamber specifications and more aggressive polygonal rifling; thus the projectile is gripped better. Second, GLOCK engineers figured out how to mass produce a “target crown” at the muzzle end of the barrel. This is the critical point; the muzzle is the last area the bullet has contact with, and a precise and even crown contributes positively to accuracy. How positively? In certified and witnessed tests, some duty ammunition produced 25 yard groups of less than TWO inches (1.81 inch average). That, ladies and gentlemen, is significant. Think about it: a shot which is just barely into a “+1 second” scoring area could now
be comfortably inside the “0 seconds added”. And the Gen5 GLOCK will hold this accuracy for tens of thousands of rounds due to the new GLOCK nDLC surface finish on both barrel and slide. To assist the barrel in its target orientation, the Gen5 trigger system has received many positive reviews for its smoothness and controllability. Again a critical factor of the trigger is how the shooter “drives” the shot. The combination of the GM barrel and trigger system should have a complimentary sighting system, and GLOCK has provided some.Other enhancements of the Gen5 package which have proven of value to the competitor and practical shooter are the flared mag well, unique to the Gen5 frame. The flare affords faster reloads
Page 4
with less chance of a misstep. And, after the fresh mag is locked in place, the ambidextrous slide stop lever assists the shooter in sending the slide home into battery rapidly. Continuity of fire is ensured. A front strap with consistent shape and rough textured finish around three hundred sixty degrees of the frame results in full contact which improves control for speed and accuracy. A magazine enhancement is the orange cartridge follower in each Gen5 magazine. The capacity condition of the magazine can be determined at a glance.Available on the Gen5 GLOCKs is the new GLOCK
BOLD sights, with a highlighted (orange) front sight and precise rear sight notch. The highlighted front allows the sight to be picked up by the eyes faster, and can be tracked easier as the competitor moves the Gen5 GLOCK from target to target.GEN5 GLOCKs are available in Models 17, 19, 26 and 34 with the Modular Optic System (MOS) mounting system on the Model 34. Thus, one can have a Generation 5 GLOCK for nearly every Division in GSSF, and the Gen5 is sure to dominate in other disciplines as well. The new Gen5 GLOCKs: perfect machines for scoring perfection!

Initial Membership PackageYour initial membership package will include a welcome letter with membership card, a copy of the GLOCK Annual magazine, a range bag, a copy of the GLOCK Report detailing the GSSF program itself and several other promotional items.
Matches NationwideThe biggest single benefit is the opportunity to compete in the GSSF matches themselves. There are over 50 of these outdoor matches scheduled for 2018 nationwide. Prizes from recent matches have averaged 25 guns, 21 2-year membership extensions, and about $4,625 in cash and commodity awards. The larger the match, the larger the number of awards. With record-setting attendance, our 2016 1,648-entry Griffin, GA match awarded a total of 71 firearms, 59 2-year membership extensions and $20,150 in cash awards.
There are also over 167 Indoor League match series nationwide each year. These are held at GLOCK Stocking Dealers who also run indoor ranges. Pistols and other GLOCK item awards are also a feature of these matches.
Armorer’s Class and Operator’s CourseAs a GSSF member, you are eligible to register for the GLOCK Armorer’s class and Operator’s course. These classes are designed to help familiarize GLOCK owners with the use and maintenance of their firearms. Information on these classes is available at www.glocktraining.com.

THE GLOCK REPORT
How do I receive a pistol purchase coupon? If you are a renewing member, you will automatically receive a new member card and coupon with your renewal. If you are a new member, you will need to join for a minimum of 2 years. When you receive your new member pack, you will receive a member card and coupon. They are located on the bottom of your welcome letter. You will receive one coupon per year as long as you are a current member. These coupons are automatically mailed around your membership anniversary date. If you are a new member joining for one year, you will not receive a coupon until you renew your membership.
If you don’t receive your coupon, you can email us at [email protected] with your name and member number (if you know it) to request one.
How do I use my pistol purchase coupon?GSSF Pistol Purchase Coupons must be used at a Blue Label GLOCK dealer. If you have a dealer near you that sells to law enforcement you can contact them to see if they are participating in the program. If you do not know of any dealers near you, call the GSSF office at 770-437-4718 for assistance. A dealer locator can also be found at https://us.glock.com/dealer-locator. GSSF Pistol Purchase Coupons are non-transferrable.
I am new to GSSF and shooting competitions. What do I need to know?Everything can be found on our website, www.gssfonline.com. For new shooters, it will help if you read the sign in procedure, “GSSF made easy,” and new competitor briefing. Those are located under the “Hot Topics” link. You can only shoot each division once per match. If you want to shoot more than one gun you need to shoot multiple divisions. If you still have questions you can email us at [email protected] or call 770-437-4718.
Can I pre-register for an Indoor League Match? You cannot pre-register for indoor league matches. You will need to register at the hosting range. You can also join or renew at the range.
If I do not pre-register for an outdoor match can I still shoot?Yes, you can register, join, or renew at any GSSF match. If you pre-register, you won’t have to stand in registration lines at the match. If you are pre-registering please note that pre-registrations must be received by GSSF by noon, Eastern time, the Wednesday before the match. That gives staff time to get all paperwork packed and ready to go to the match.
Can I bring a friend to watch the match?Yes, they will need to stop by registration and sign a liability form. They will also need to bring hearing and eye protection with them.
When will the match results be posted? The preliminary results will be posted soon after the match. If there is an error in your results, please send an email to [email protected] with your name and the match name. Let us know in which division and which course of fire the error is located. Most matches will be finalized in approximately 4-6 weeks. If we have a heavy match schedule it may take longer to finalize matches. Once the match is finalized, you will see the prizes for that match listed with the scores.
Frequently Asked Questions
Page 8
GSSF On the RoadHomestead, FL In early January, we held our 2nd Annual match in Homestead, FL. It was a great match with over 420 entries. The food vendor that came out had wonderful bar-b-que and kept the Range Officers and competitors well fed and happy. We held the match at the Homestead Training Center, a wonderful facility with a lot of nice bays. We look forward to this match every year so that we can escape the cold winter weather and enjoy the South Florida sun!
Gonzales, LA We had our 2nd annual East Ascension GSSF Challenge in Gonzales, LA in early January this year. We had over 200 entries that came out and shot the match. It was unusually cold for southern Louisiana, with temperatures dropping into the 20s. We had a wonderful set of Range Officers that braved the cold and ran the competitors with great attitudes. If you get a chance to come down to Gonzales, LA, I recommend that you do. The food alone is worth coming, and everybody will be happy to see you.
New Smyrna Beach, FL We held our first match in New Smyrna Beach, FL this past January at the Volusia County Gun and Hunt Club. We had a great turn out with over 740
entries, breaking the inaugural match record. We had a great set of Range Officers that made this match run very smoothly. With close proximity to the beach, it is a great match to bring your family to and then enjoy some time at the beach. We look forward to coming back next year and many years after.
Tallahassee, FLOn February 24-25, 2018 GSSF members shot approximately 715 match entries at the Northern Florida Regional Classic V. The match took place at Talon Range about 10 miles west of the Florida state capital building, a stone’s throw from Interstate Highway 10. The weather was beautiful on Saturday and slightly soggy on Sunday.A good time was had by all including both the GSSF members and the plentiful and efficient Range Officer staff organized by Talon Range.
Bridgeville, DEThe Bridgeville Rifle and Pistol Club hosted the third annual Delaware State GLOCK Challenge in Bridgeville, DE. The sun returned to Delaware in 2018 and remained throughout the weekend, turning “Fridge”ville into the place to be for a GSSF match. The event featured shooters and volunteers from more than six surrounding states. The host club provided numerous stage
Page 9
THE GLOCK REPORT
setups and plenty of experienced volunteers who worked diligently to put the match beyond the 400 entry mark for the second consecutive year. The successful event closed with four lucky volunteers taking home GLOCK pistol certificates in the volunteer drawing.
Dawsonville, GA This past spring, we held our annual GSSF match at River Bend Gun Club in Dawsonville, GA for the 11th year. The Dawsonville match has become a favorite destination for a lot of our competitors. This year we had over 1,000 entries and the match still ran really smooth. It ran so smoothly because we had one of the best groups of Range Officers we could ever ask for. As usual, the Forsyth County Explorers did a wonderful job keeping everybody fed and happy. This is a wonderful match to attend and I highly recommend coming if you get the chance.
Okeechobee, FL This year we had our match at the Okeechobee Shooting Sports facility for the fifth year. We had a total of 716 entries. As always, it is a great time of year to head down to Florida and enjoy the perfect weather. This year OKSS had some brand new bays we could use and we were able to have more set ups than in previous years. We had a great group of Range Officers that worked really hard to get all the shooter through. When you come to
Okeechobee Shooting Sports, make sure to stop by the Pro-Shop and check out some of the latest GLOCK firearms and gear.
Azusa, CAThe match was a great success, they have a new record of 487. Chad does an amazing job getting all the volunteers together, as so does Jacob. They make sure that they have enough snacks, drinks as well as an amazing lunch both days. The range is very well equipped to host the match as it continues to grow. Looking forward to next year.
Boise, IDThe match was good and the volunteers that took the time to help Scott did an amazing job. The match has the potential to grow. If you want to plan a trip around shooting the match there are a lot of interesting things to do in downtown Boise. Look up the club at Nampa Rod & Gun Club, there is an indoor range as well as the outdoor range.
Holmen, WI This year in Holmen, WI we had a total of 308 entires, beating the previous record! We had great weather this year, a little snow on the ground but the sun came out and warmed us up a good bit. We had a great group of Range Officers this year and were able to run with little wait for the shooters. We also had a great showing from the Young Marines, they helped immensly with pasting and keeping everything running smoothly.

It is with sincere sadness we note the passing of R. Lee Ermey, “The Gunny”, on April 15th, 2018. His passing was unexpected, and he will be missed.
“The Gunny” served his country honorably dur-ing the Vietnam Conflict, and several years after became involved with the motion picture industry, first in small roles centered around combat in Vietnam, and then as a technical advisor. In an example of good fortune recognizing rare talent, he took the role of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, “Senior Drill Instructor”, United States Marine Corps. That immortal performance launched a career over decades, which the Gunny used to promote and support the Marines, and notably, the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution and the shooting sports.
The Gunny was a long-time spokesperson for GLOCK and the GLOCK Sport Shooting Foun-dation, and he was massively popular at trade shows and events. People stood in line for hours for just a few moments with him. And he did not disappoint; he always spent a few moments with each person who came up to him. His fans left with a bit of Gunny humor and wisdom. The Gunny was able to reach even more people through his huge social media following and the successful television series he hosted, which mostly focused on weapons and weaponized ve-hicles, and, of course, The Gunny’s own indom-itable style. He had so much fun working on his highly popular GLOCK videos. And, it showed.
His life embodied the motto of the Marine Corps, Semper fidelis, or “Semper fi”; Always faithful. Godspeed, Gunny; rest easy now, Marine.

In April 2018, members of the High Desert Chapter of A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) attended the GLOCK Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF) Match at Burro Canyon Shooting Park in Azusa, CA. This was their second time competing in the GSSF match as a team, which included beginner and experienced shooters. They aimed to build confidence and continue to introduce ladies to competition and challenging experiences that empower and excite them for further training. Julie Creason, Facilitator, AG & AG High Desert Chapter stated, “The GLOCK professionals, the RSOs and the range staff offer a fantastic, comfortable environment and set us up to succeed every time.” Members of the chapter have previously won a GLOCK pistol, a Lifetime Membership worth $350, and a $50 cash award -- and junior shooter, Stephanie Faris, won $75 for being the top junior female! The High Desert Chapter is one of the fastest-growing chapters in AG & AG, a national organization established by women shooters for women shooters. Through training events and competitive matches, AG & AG provides women
the opportunity to improve their marksmanship and make new friends. GLOCK is a Diamond Sponsor of the AG & AG National Training Conference and Title Sponsor of the Back the Women in Blue Program. GLOCK is also a Leadership Training Sponsor and hundreds of members participate in GSSF matches nationwide. The High Desert members are looking forward to competing in the CALGUNS GLOCK SoCal Challenge in November 2018!For information on A Girl & A Gun or to learn more about the High Desert chapter, go to:https://www.AGirlandAGun.org/

THE GLOCK REPORT
Member’s CornerPistol Giveaway Winner
My husband and I have been shooting GLOCK outdoor matches for 4 years. Two years ago we learned of a GLOCK Indoor League not too far from us so we now shoot every month. We feel our scores in the outdoor matches have improved because of the indoor league. We have a long drive to and from the indoor league so we shoot 2 categories…stock and unlimited. It’s too far to drive to shoot in just one!The pocket GLOCK was a new category for our league last summer and being competitive as we are, we purchased a GLOCK 43. The last league of 2017 and first time to shoot the pocket category, my husband has earned a 250 patch every month! And the end of the league he received a plaque for the 1st Place Pocket GLOCK. Then the January leg of the first league of 2018 was a repeat when we earned another 250 patch! He’s definitely on a roll!Needless to say, we think you’ve got it right with the GLOCK 43. And without a doubt, it has the best trigger GLOCK has ever produced…we know because we bought another one for me to carry and it has the same great trigger! PY Texas
I have to write to express what an incredibly wonderful experience my first GSSF match was. I am a 56-year-old woman and a fairly new shooter. I have only been shooting for 18 months, so the thought of entering a GLOCK match was very intimidating to me. I didn’t feel qualified, experienced, or confident. You know, all of those things one would think a competitive shooter would need to have as part of their expected skillset “before” they entered a competitive environment! Basically, I was terrified. Luckily for me, a very dear friend of mine kept telling me how much fun these competitions were and how helpful the range officers were and I was silly to have such apprehension. He convinced me I was ready. He said it was more about the fun and the people I would meet and encouraged me to join GSSF. He was so right! My boyfriend and I entered the Topton,
PA GSSF event in August. We registered as new members (giving us a chance to win a random pistol each) and signed into our first stage. The first thing I did was tell the range officer It was my first time and his response was. “Relax and have a good time, I will explain and answer any questions you may have about the course of fire. We are here to help you and just want you to have fun” Wow, the entire time I thought I was going to feel like a liability due to my inexperience and he was WONDERFUL! He was patient and encouraging and alleviated all of my anxiety!! I shot my first stage, the 5 to GLOCK and all the butterflies were gone.. He patiently explained everything to me, right down to how to place the gun on the table. Then he walked me out to score my targets , I shot really well! He was so encouraging, He really made my day by wiping out my newbie jitters. We had so much fun. We met many people that day that said this was their first GSSF experience, and all had the same great things to say. I have to say, I have never felt so welcomed as a newcomer in anything I have ever done. As soon as we got home I was plotting our next entry! We will be at every match we can physically get to. My boyfriend won a Random Pistol in our very first match!! I already have mine picked out when I win mine! Thank you GSSF for welcoming us into your family. Thank you for the GLOCK 17 MOS that we are waiting to arrive! I really need to win a 43 so I can shoot the Girls Pocket GLOCK Division in our next event! So that’s what I currently have in my sights. I am very proud to be a part of GSSF and I thank you again for your generosity. BMNew York
I have had the pleasure of volunteering and competing in GSSF matches since 2000. This year was my third time volunteering at the match in Talladega Alabama at the beautiful CMP range and it was that location’s inaugural year as the home of the GLOCK Annual Shoot. Over the years I have seen the evolution of the GSSF matches as both a competitor and a volunteer. At the CMP range this year there were quite a few familiar
Page 36
faces as well as the fun of the GLOCK Games and watching the Gunny Challenge. Over the weekend two things struck me. The first is the growth of the sport. As far as I have been able to find this is the largest yearly pistol competition in the US and each year the number of entries keeps growing along with the divisions in which you can shoot. The second is both the quality and the efficiency of the GSSF staff and the volunteers. The GSSF staff and volunteers are one of the friendliest and most welcoming groups I have found. I don’t know how many times we have had a new competitor who had just purchased their pistol come to the bay I was volunteering in nervous about their first time shooting a competition. Nine point nine times out of ten that competitor has left smiling and excited to try out the next stage. It is a testament to the dedication and love of the sport both of these groups that the match continues to not only run smoothly but continues to attract new shooters of all skill levels to compete, talk and make new friends every year.JHGeorgia
I first heard of GSSF about 10 years ago when my club near Lexington, Kentucky asked for volunteers to support a GSSF match. My oldest son and I signed up to paste targets and score. It was a fun experience for my 13-year old son. As the years passed and my two other sons became old enough to participate, they joined the family GSSF match squad, with me running a timer, a son scoring, and another son pasting. One match became two, as we started volunteering at the Park City, Kentucky match and began shooting the matches. Did I mention that son three also received a free pistol certificate his first time volunteering pasting targets? His pick? A GLOCK 23. Fortunately for son two, I won a pistol certificate in a club fund raiser raffle and gave him a GLOCK 22 so that he would not be left out. A work relocation to Des Moines, Iowa three years ago left us without a local GSSF match. The answer? Father-son road trips. We contacted match directors in Hallsville, Missouri; Louisville, Nebraska; and, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and
started volunteering at and shooting those matches.GSSF matches have been a great experience for my sons, highlighting the importance of safe firearms handling, imposing the discipline of scored timed shooting, letting them meet great people, exposing them to the variety of gear choices of match competitors, and allowing them to watch outstanding shooters up close. When I gave my wife a GLOCK 19 for Valentine’s Day a few years ago, my daughter said “what about me”? The answer: a Gen 4 GLOCK 19 for her on her 21st birthday courtesy of a Blue Label certificate from my GSSF membership. What about me? My GLOCK is a 17 that I purchased in 1991. It is still going strong. I used the free armorer at a GSSF match last year to have the six-part replacement done and have an overall inspection. I also used my GSSF membership last year to attend the GLOCK Armorer’s course…we need an armorer for the family’s fleet of GLOCKs. My children are grown up or nearly grown up, and are starting to leave home. I have a sense of comfort from their ownership of safe, reliable GLOCK firearms and the safe gun handling skills that GSSF helped to instill in them. Number one son is now married, living and expecting identical twin sons in November 2017. It won’t be too long before we will be doing three-generation GSSF match participation! DRIowa
20 years ago, my dad gave me my first GLOCK 17. Then he took me to my first match, The Hoosier Classic in Indiana. Scott Gilbertson was there from GSSF making sure everything would run smoothly. My dad and I have wonderful memories competing together. 20 years later, I took my son to his first match, the GLOCK Annual Shoot in Talladega, Alabama. It was great to speak with Scott again and introduce my son to him just like my dad had done for me so many years ago. We used the same GLOCK 17 at his first match that I used at my first match. Many matches and many thousands of rounds later, our family knows

the reliability, consistency, and strength GLOCK offers in their guns. GLOCKs are dependable, made to last and can be passed down through the years. We are so grateful for the good hard work GSSF puts into organizing all the matches across the country year after year.VSSouth Carolina
GSSF is a shooting sport of the highest order. I’m not aware of another pistol sport that is as welcoming to new shooters, generous with prizes, or as strong of a test of pure marksmanship fundamentals. There is something for you whether you’re a newbie or a world-class competitor. This last season I worked hard practicing and moved from a 24th place finish to a 1st place win on my final match. Now the goal will be to become a GSSF Master. Thanks to GSSF I’ve made some great new friends, won a pistol, and majorly improved my shooting skills all in a single season. I’m so grateful that we have the chance to shoot such an enjoyable sport several times a year!JMGeorgia
Took my 8-year-old son to 2 GSSF matches this summer to show him what daddy does at a shoot. I showed him how to help out at the match and of course how to be safe. He now wants to go with me every time and would love to compete sometime soon. I love his enthusiasm and the fact he has taken a liking to my passion. His younger brothers now want to come and learn as he has.... never too young to get them started!!!!JHIowa
What a blast (pun intended)! I am a new member and attended my first shoot at the Showdown at Big Creek in Mobile. It was everything I expected it to be.. I really want to congratulate the GSSF, the good folks in Mobile, and all the volunteers that ran the range. The organization and conduct
of the event was exceptional. I am former military and was very pleased and impressed with the emphasis on gun and ammo safety. Good ol’ southern hospitality was also on display at its finest - from check-in, to sign-ups, and all the way through conduct of fire - all involved were happy to help, answer my questions, and see that I had a meaningful time. My nephew, an Air Force veteran, was excited to hear that I had joined GSSF and he told me about the wonderful time I would have. He was right on target (pun intended, again). This is definitely a community that I want to be a part of! I am looking forward to my next match. I have to run out to the store now and pick up another GLOCK so I can enter more divisions.WHGeorgia
I’ve been a GLOCK owner for over 10 years now, but the “Great Lakes Regional Classic” GSSF event in Brighton, Michigan this summer was my very first competitive shooting event. None of my friends were able to go, so I went by myself and decided to meet some new GLOCK fans. I was a little nervous, but I was greeted by so many nice people and had an amazing time. The volunteers were more than willing to explain each event to me, and I found other shooters to hang out with, who shared tips and stories about previous events. We took turns shooting and taking photos with each other’s cameras, and I even placed a little better than I thought I would. The event really had me excited again for trying different models and calibers, I can’t wait until the next GSSF event, I definitely plan to have some new GLOCKs to shoot next time.JWMichigan
I am excited to share this brief story from the GSSF Indoor match held at Target World in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 20th, 2018. I have been participating in GSSF events at my local range for 3 years now. I got my son involved 2 years ago as well. I only found out about GSSF Events when a shooting friend explained it to me
Page 38
and helped me during my first event. I wanted to return the favor and pay it forward. Along with my son, I brought 4 first time shooters on 1/20/18. They all had a great time and were treated with respect. They did not feel like the “new guy” at all. They will all be back for more GSSF events. Thank you, Target World and GSSF, for holding such impressive events.PPOhio
THANK YOU!!! A friend and I just joined the GSSF earlier this month and we attended our 1st competition today, February 25th in Tallahassee, Fl. We both love to shoot and thought that your competition sounded pretty cool, so we came and checked it out. My friend was a little apprehensive at first about shooting in a competition due to his handicap, he had his left leg amputated a mere 4 months ago and received his prosthetic leg just 8 days before the match. I must COMMEND GLOCK and the GSSF for how accommodating you were to my friend. We had a GREAT time! This is some serious fun. On the way home we were already trying to figure out when and where we could do it again. My friend’s concerns were quickly put to rest once we signed in and met Patty Norton. Patty and the entire GSSF staff went out of their way to make sure that he was comfortable, able to get around, stable when standing to shoot and SAFE. Your continued concern for his well-being was nice to see. I would highly recommend the GSSF to anyone who likes to shoot and is handicapped. We look forward to seeing you and your staff at another match again soon. Thank you, take care.SCFlorida
I participated in the Tallahassee Matches this past weekend. It was my first experience shooting in a GLOCK Match. I am a 60 year old below the knee amputee. I was apprehensive to shoot in the match because of my handicap. Patty Norton and her crew made the match one of the most enjoyable shooting experiences I have had. I had brought a fellow shooter with me to help me with
locomotion around the course and he got to be the pack mule for our gear. Patty had notified the range officials that we would be present and they took great care of us. They helped us to ranges with the least waiting time and were exceptional in their accommodations for me and my friend. Everyone I met with a “gray shirt” was extremely helpful and professional. I was impressed the way they handled the crowd of shooters without any issues I was aware of. I so enjoyed this experience, I am conspiring with other shooters from our area to make trips to as many GSSF matches as we can. Please thank Patty Norton and her crew for me for all their hard work that made the Tallahassee Event a success!JBFlorida
We go to several shoots each year around the SE and I can honestly say, the Dawsonville, GA match was one of the best run matches we have attended. Everything was well planned and set up. We arrived at approximately 10:30 and between the two of us, we shot a total of 9 entries. We were done at around 1:10pm. The entire staff was outstanding.I can say that I have talked to several others who attended and they have voiced the same opinion.Just thought someone should know.JMGeorgia
I attended the GSSF Match in St Augustine, FL on November 4, 2017. It was the first time I had been to that range and the first time I did a match with the GSSF.I am a recently retired Trooper from the NY State Police and came down here for new “retirement work”. In July, I was severely injured in a car crash and was on the mend when the opportunity to compete in this match was brought to my attention by guys I work with. We all competed and despite some of the difficulties and challenges of competing in a wheel chair it was a real blessing to have attended. I saw other people with various disabilities competing and

was very pleased with not only the way GLOCK GSSF handled things but particularly how great the range staff were in helping everyone, including me, in having an enjoyable and safe day.Again thank you all.MSFlorida
Our local range here in NW Washington state does a great job with the GSSF Indoor League. I have been shooting GSSF indoor matches at the Skagit Shooting Range in Burlington, WA for about a year and it has been fun and very challenging. This range does a great job promoting the match and getting shooters through in an organized way. When a match is well run, fun, and entices you to come back and shoot more matches. GLOCK has done a great job in putting the whole GSSF together and keeping it together for all these years. It is a great organization and these local shooting ranges just make it that much better.I look forward to shooting many more indoor GSSF matches at the Skagit Indoor Range and promoting GSSF to friends and family to get them involved in the shooting sports.BCWashington
Thought I would share my experience at the GLOCK Annual Shoot 2017.What a great event, very well organized and ran smoothly. I got there early on Nov. 18th 2017, signed the waivers and got my labels. I then made my way to the shooting area and was surprised how well it was laid out and things went so smooth. I had only registered for two divisions Am. Civ. and Am. Comp.I felt as I had shot my best match to date, and was very pleased. Everyone there was very helpful and friendly as well. The CMP facility is a beautiful place, well-kept and organized. I had made the trip to Alabama from Ohio, it was a great road trip and I hope to make this event again in the future. This was only my 7th GSSF match and it was a great one that I will always remember. After I was done shooting for the day, I was walking
around and suddenly realized that GLOCK Team member Shane Coley was there, what a treat to finally meet him. He was shooting some kind of exercise and it was a great experience to witness him shooting. After that I had the pleasure to shake his hand and thank him for all he does for Team GLOCK. I even got a picture of him as well. This was one of the highlights of my day.I then went and watched some of the Gunny Challenge and got to shake the hand of the Gunny himself along with John Schneider. Such a great day!! I will always remember this event as it was my first Annual Shoot, and I would like to thank everyone involved with GLOCK and the GSSF. Thank you again for all your hard work, and making these shooting matches a pleasurable experience. GSSF ROCKS!!JEOhio
I entered my first local GSSF match in 1992 and have entered nearly every local match since. The GSSF match is for all skill levels. All competitors look forward to next year’s match. The early GSSF matches had wives or girlfriends watching and lending support. Today it is not uncommon for the ladies to enter the match and come equipped with a range bag and several GLOCKs and be very competitive. The GSSF program has done an outstanding job encouraging women to get involved with the shooting sports. The GSSF program is constantly improving, making every year better than the last. The one thing that has been consistent is the Range Officers. They have always been helpful, patient, and safety conscious. They are a big part of the GLOCK Sport Shooting Foundation’s success.TONew York
My daughter and I had a blast at the Talladega match this year. This was her first venture to check one out and see her daddy shoot a little bit. The RO staff was so welcoming to her and went out of their

way to make her feel right at home. She wants to shoot in one next year now that she is 10. I have attached a few pics including her favorite one with Shane (she met him at the NRA show in ATL and has had a crush on him ever since!). Thank you all for everything you do!Can’t wait until the next one!Happy New Year GSSF!MSGeorgia
Yesterday I attended my first ever shooting competition in my life. It was at Safeside Tactical in Lynchburg VA. This was an amazing first experience for me. The staff was very helpful and the range officer was extremely encouraging. I’m a former Marine so I am hard on myself. I shot a 248 in the pocket GLOCK class but I sure wanted a 250. I pulled one shot but that’s ok. I’ll definitely be back. I’m hooked. The facility is top notch and they make you feel welcome. Thanks for all that y’all do as well for all of us that enjoy shooting GLOCKs.JCVirginia
I just wanted to pass along some photos and let you know what a great time I had shooting my first GSSF event!! I shot the event in Louisiana on the weekend of Jan 13-14.The event was well run, the people super nice and friendly, everyone was so anxious to help out in any way, and of course it was fun to shoot. We had some very cold temperatures here, especially for Louisiana, down to freezing each morning but the workers were such troopers they didn’t let a little cold weather slow them down. Of course they were smart enough to set up a heater or two in the right places to help!!! I brought out a brand new model 19 to shoot, hadn’t even put a round through it yet (wasn’t planned that way but just how things worked out) but wasn’t about to let that stop me from trying out this event. And by the time I worked my way to the last stage, which for me was the steel plates, I was getting things sorted out. And after my last string
on the plates, I was ready to do it again!! Now where do I put my money to start the plate game over again???? Man that was so much fun!!!!!! I definitely plan on putting in some practice time and will shoot more than one category next year! Thanks for putting on such a great event, I had a blast!!!!SRLouisiana
Early in 2017 I decided to try and get out to more competitions, including GSSF. That is when I found that except for one outdoor event and a few scattered indoor events there was not many events within easy driving distance (for me 1-2 hours). I attended what I could, but my own travel/work schedule also interfered reducing the number I could attend further. I decided to try and fix the problem myself. I contacted GSSF and got all the information regarding indoor leagues and had a long telephone conversation with Stephanie Stone. Armed with this information, I reached out to the owner of the range I shoot at most frequently (Indy Arms Company) and found out that the first potential hurdle (the range needs to be a GLOCK Certified Range) was already fulfilled as they had joined the program a year before. So step one if you want to get a range to host GSSF indoor events is selling them on the GLOCK Certified Range program. The cost paid to GLOCK for an indoor GSSF three-match league is currently $500 and includes prizes (hats, stickers, knives), a free small frame GLOCK for a random winner, plaques (or tumblers), and 100 targets. Do note that if your league is moderately successful, you will need more than 100 targets over the three matches. You can order the higher quality thicker paper targets directly from GLOCK. We did experiment once and shopped online for what we thought were the same targets – but they are made from thinner paper which makes administration (hanging, handling, and scoring targets) more difficult. I then created a one sheet ‘pitch’ showing the costs and needs (three 3-4 hour blocks on three days across three months). Our range has two bays of six lanes each so this was easier to pitch
Page 41
THE GLOCK REPORT
during regular open hours. If your range has only one bay/set of lanes you may need to include the cost of staff coming in early (or late) to host the event where it is not competing with other member or walk-in shooters. In my specific case I included the cost of one extra paid staff person per event and the names of the people who had agreed (already lined up) to volunteer to RSO in exchange to being able to shoot each match for free. This came up to $500 (to GSSF) + $60 (staffing) a match for a total of $680 (rounded up to $750 to account for unforeseen costs). I doubled that to $1500 (to indicate the owner how much revenue was needed for him to double his investment) and divided by $25 (the cost of initial suggested entry) which equaled 60 courses of fire needed to double the cost of the investment across all three dates. So 60 courses of fire over 3 matches would be doubling the range’s investment and we only needed 10 per match (30) to break even. I also listed the nearest events to illustrate we would be filling a need.Basically, I prepped a mini-business plan proposal and pitched the idea as a money maker. I would suggest trying to get the event on a weekend to increase the likelihood that GSSF shooters further away will consider making the drive. My range decided to give it a try and below is the data from our first ever GSSF Indoor league that, if you are trying to get your range to host, might be useful to you.OCT-DEC 2017 GSSF WRAP UP: THE NUMBERSFIRST (ever) MATCH (October 2017, Sunday 3pm-6pm). Only advertising was some flyer in the store and the GSSF emailing and web page listing.19 shooters of which 9 had never shot at our range before and we ran 34 courses of fire (so the break-even point of 30 paid entries was surpassed the very first match.SECOND MATCH (November 2017, Sunday 3-6pm): added a flyer handed out to anyone who rented a GLOCK at the range and promoted the event on Facebook.Of the 19 shooters from October, 17 came back and 14 new shooters came in (6 brand new to the range for a total of 31 shooters and 51 courses of fire run. We were now at 85 courses of fire run
blasting right past the 60 needed for the range to double its money. After the second match the owner asked why I had not gotten him to do these earlier and committed to running consecutive leagues going forward from now on (one a month through 2018).THIRD MATCH (December 2017, Sunday 3-6pm). Continued same advertising, but also added two color posters at the range advertising the events and highlighting top shooters so far (and pictures of our 250 club shooters (we would not get a 500 club shooter until our second league). We had 23 people attend the last match, 4 of whom were shooting for the first time (they didn’t care that they could not win the pistol, they just wanted to get started shooting sooner than later) and we ran 48 courses of fire. So our first ever GSSF League brought in a total of 73 (including repeats) people, 19 total of whom had never been to our range before. And we had 133 paid course of fire, which used 266 targets. (Remember when I said order more targets?)We also just wrapped up our 2nd round of matches for the year (Jan, Feb, Mar 2018) and continue to see even greater participation and success. Most importantly, it has been a blast coordinating these events! I have met a lot of great people and the GSSF is wonderfully easy to deal with and GLOCK is very helpful.JNIndiana
