DIRECTORS' NOTEWelcome to WINTERWORKS! We are very proud to present this program, which features original choreographic works by dance division students. These pieces have been developed through a months-long process, many in collaboration with student composers, under the guidance of faculty members Mary Wolff and Tommy Neblett. The sophistication of our student-created work illustrates the strength of our compositional curriculum as well as the talent and creativity of our students, and we are excited to share this work with you, our audience.

A highlight of our WINTERWORKS program is the inaugural performance of our freshman class, who are dancing on the mainstage for the first time since their arrival at The Conservatory in the fall. Our freshmen are featured in two stunning works: Accused (Variation B) by choreographer Alison Cook Beatty (B.F.A. '01, dance), and Speak II by choreographer William McLaughlin.

Cook Beatty is this year’s choice for the Alumni Commissioning Project. This project represents the dance division's commitment to support the growth of our alumni as choreographers and artists by commissioning alumni work every year and presenting this work on our mainstage.

Well known Boston artist McLaughlin is co-chair of the dance program at Boston Arts Academy (BAA). His work with our freshmen is part of a choreographic exchange between the Conservatory and BAA. This spring, Dance Division Director Cathy Young will create a work to be performed by BAA students in their spring concert.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful program with us.

Mary Wolff and Cathy Young, co-producers
