The Book of James“Taming An Unruly Tongue”

 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 

8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 

9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.

 

  10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these 

things ought not to be so.

 

  11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?

 

 

 

 

12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring can yield both salt water and 

fresh.

Psalm 34:13"Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips 

from speaking deceit"

Ephesians 4:29-3229 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for 

necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were

sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just 

as God in Christ forgave you.

Mark 7:14-1714 When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, "Hear Me, everyone, and understand: 15 There is nothing that enters a man from outside 

which can defile him; but the things which

come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. 16 If anyone has ears to 

hear, let him hear!" 

Psalm 51:10"Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me" 

Romans 12:1-21 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by 

the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, 

but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is 

that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Proverbs 18:21"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its 

fruit"

Titus 3:2-7to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. 3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and

envy, hateful and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He 

saved us, through the washing of

regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our 

Savior, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according 

to the hope of eternal life. 

Matthew 12:35-3735 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they

will give account of it in the For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. "day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be 

condemned."

John 7:38-3938 He who believes in Me, as the 

Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the

Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. 

Galatians 5:22-2622 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh

with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 

26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one 

another.

Galatians 5:19-2219 Now the works of the flesh are 

evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, 

sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, 

dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the 

kingdom of God.

Colossians 3:5-105 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and 

covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming

upon the sons of disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. 8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, 

malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, 

since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who 

created him...

abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who

have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are 

good and profitable to men.
