Exodus: Theme

God formed the Hebrews from the sons of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in Egypt; under the leadership of Moses, he delivered them from Egypt; he made them his priest nation and revealed his instructions, the Mosaic Law, at Sinai.

Exodus: Narrative, 1 God prepared Moses for the leadership, formed

the sons of Israel into a community, and Moses led them out of Egypt (1-12). The people repeatedly complain against God and Moses because they refuse to believe God’s word.

At Sinai, God made them his kingdom of priest and his holy nation (19).

God gave the Israeli people His law, called the Mosaic Law (20-34).

Exodus: Narrative, 2

While Moses was on Mount Sinai, Aaron failed as a leader and the people made the golden calf idol (32).

Moses interceded for the people based upon God’s covenant to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and God kept his word to bless Israel (32-34).

The Israelites complete the tabernacle and God’s glory filled the tabernacle (35-40).

Exodus 14:21-22• Then Moses stretched out his hand over the

Thus all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting was finished. And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses; so they did.

The TabernacleWhy was it important to make it exactly as God commanded?

Because it all represented a (pattern, type, figure) of something to come in the future. WHAT?

Heb. 9:23-24

Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;…

The Tabernacle Today ONLY Levites could enter & serve in the Holy Place!

…you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ…

Exodus: Lesson For Us Today God is sovereign and holy, yet gracious and

compassionate. Redemption is always through sacrifice. God does have his Plan for his people and guides

his people. God reveals his word, inspires his word, illumines

his word, and communicates his word. Unbelief or negative volition reaps consequences. God always keeps his word to his people. God appointed leadership is necessary for his

people.

The Passover Lamb

Exodus 12:5-7, 46 => Passover lamb had to be killed for its blood to be affective in keeping them from death.

1 Corinthians 5:7&8; “For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us” => It was the blood of the Savior who died for us that keeps us from death.

It was to be an unblemished lambOnly a perfect one could make atonement. In the same

way, Jesus’ whose judge, Pilate, said, “I find no fault in Him.”

The Tabernacle

The Tent of Meeting was where God dwelt with His people

A tent is compared to our body in the NT

2Corinthians 5:1; “For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have … a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens”

John 1:14; “And the Word became flesh” Literally means, the Word of God became flesh and tabernacled among us

The Tabernacle looks unattractive from the outside. The exterior perimeter was of badger skins (black) but the inside was altogether lovely (scarlet, blue and purple embroidery)

Isaiah 53:3 “…nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.” but in reality, He was God to save us.
