The end of any school year brings great excitement and anticipation as we all look forward to our summer break from studying and working, but it is always also tinged with some sadness because it means there are changes afoot. When we cast our minds back to last September we remember new girls arriving not knowing what to expect or how they are going to cope. Looking at those girls now they have learnt to be independent, caring, supportive and respectful. They have learnt skills to live in a community and enjoy the comrade- ship, friendships and how to achieve the best results in their education. They have been enthusiastic and fully involved in so many activities: sports, drama, clubs, crafts, music, choirs, horse riding, dancing, cookery, sailing and so much more. Their weekends have been crammed with trips and visits and their evenings with games, movies, walks, books and of course a little time to Skype, text or phone (and play Minecraft!) At the end of each term we fondly wave goodbye to all our summer visitors and some that have been here a lot longer. We hope that they will ALL return again and at least keep in touch with us. We also move the year 8s forward into Middle House (hoping that they will want to pop back occasionally and say ‘hello’). Very sadly we also say a wee goodbye to our won- derful Miss Weir who returns to her homeland to another year of study. I know Morven will keep in touch- she has had such a fun and busy year with us and takes with her so many new ‘life-skills’ and mem- ories, that, like the those girls starting in September she has developed living in the Leweston Communi- ty. We have been lucky to have her as part of our ‘family’. Girls, Miss Weir and all the boarding staff, I wish you a well-earned sunny, happy and enjoyable holiday with your families and friends. Mrs Lorraine Roberts, Housemistress, Junior House With recent sunny weather fresh in our memories (and all that rain a distant memory!) it would cer- tainly seem like Summer term has lived up to our expectations. Lots of outdoor fun and ice-creams have been the order of the day. The girls have enjoyed lots of outdoor trips and activities and even managed to eat a well-deserved ‘Pick your Own’ strawberry or two! As always the boarders have been very busy visiting local National Trust properties, the seaside, perusing markets, visiting a donkey sanctuary and taking a fun ride on a tram! Could they pack any more in, I hear you all cry! We have welcomed some new boarders this term and also half term, and the girls have settled in well and they have established themselves within the community fantastically well. As house mistress to Senior House, I always feel slightly sad at this time of year as I say ‘farewell’ to the Year 13 girls. They have been a pleasure to know and I am sure that they will all go on to do amaz- ing things. They have certainly all applied themselves and worked incredibly hard towards their exams and I hope the results show this in August. No doubt they will keep in touch and report on how their university lives are going. Some Year 11 boarders also say farewell to us at the end of this term. The end of any school year brings great excitement and anticipation as we all look forward to our

summer break from studying and working, but it is always also tinged with some sadness because it

means there are changes afoot.

When we cast our minds back to last September we remember new girls arriving not knowing what to

expect or how they are going to cope. Looking at those girls now they have learnt to be independent,

caring, supportive and respectful. They have learnt skills to live in a community and enjoy the comrade-

ship, friendships and how to achieve the best results in their education. They have been enthusiastic

and fully involved in so many activities: sports, drama, clubs, crafts, music, choirs, horse riding, dancing,

cookery, sailing and so much more. Their weekends have been crammed with trips and visits and their

evenings with games, movies, walks, books and of course a little time to Skype, text or phone (and play

Minecraft!)

At the end of each term we fondly wave goodbye to all our summer visitors and some that have been

here a lot longer. We hope that they will ALL return again and at least keep in touch with us. We also

move the year 8s forward into Middle House (hoping that they will want to pop back occasionally and

say ‘hello’).

Very sadly we also say a wee goodbye to our won-

derful Miss Weir who returns to her homeland to

another year of study. I know Morven will keep in

touch- she has had such a fun and busy year with us

and takes with her so many new ‘life-skills’ and mem-

ories, that, like the those girls starting in September

she has developed living in the Leweston Communi-

ty. We have been lucky to have her as part of our

‘family’.

Girls, Miss Weir and all the boarding staff, I wish you

a well-earned sunny, happy and enjoyable holiday

with your families and friends.

Mrs Lorraine Roberts, Housemistress, Junior House

With recent sunny weather fresh in our memories (and all that rain a distant memory!) it would cer-

tainly seem like Summer term has lived up to our expectations. Lots of outdoor fun and ice-creams

have been the order of the day. The girls have enjoyed lots of outdoor trips and activities and even

managed to eat a well-deserved ‘Pick your Own’ strawberry or two! As always the boarders have

been very busy visiting local National Trust properties, the seaside, perusing markets, visiting a donkey

sanctuary and taking a fun ride on a tram! Could they pack any more in, I hear you all cry!

We have welcomed some new boarders this term and also half term, and the girls have settled in well

and they have established themselves within the community fantastically well.

As house mistress to Senior House, I always feel slightly sad at this time of year as I say ‘farewell’ to

the Year 13 girls. They have been a pleasure to know and I am sure that they will all go on to do amaz-

ing things. They have certainly all applied themselves and worked incredibly hard towards their exams

and I hope the results show this in August. No doubt they will keep in touch and report on how their

university lives are going. Some Year 11 boarders also say farewell to us at the end of this term. I

know that all the girls in Year 11 worked hard in their GCSE exams and I wish them a happy and rest-

ful summer ahead and look forward to welcoming many back into Sixth Form in September!

Miss Weir leaves us at the end of this term after a fantastic year working here as a Graduate assistant.

I know that all the boarders, especially in Junior House are going to miss her hugely and we all wish

her all the best on her next step: teacher training college.

Leweston Goodbyes!

T H E B O A R D I N G B U G L E P A G E 2

This year went by so quickly, we

don’t even have enough words to

say how thankful we are. When we

first got here we were all so scared

and wanted to go home, but after a

few weeks this changed completely.

We will never forget all the amazing

trips we went on and the great

friendships we got to make with

girls from all over the world. Being

at Leweston was one of the best

experiences we will get in our lives and also the best memories we will ever have. We

want to say thank you to Miss Hart, Miss Phipps, Miss Higgins, Miss McKellar and Miss Larkin (even though they are gone), Miss

Roberts, Miss Flannery, Miss Fielding, Miss Weir and Miss Banks for always being there for us when we needed them, and most

importantly for being like our second moms; we also wanted to thank them for always having a smile on their face and always

making sure we were alright. And to all the girls we want to say a special thank you for opening up to being our friends, even if it

was only for a year, thank you so much for putting up with our loudness hahaha. We hope you never forget us just as we will

never forget you, and sorry if you see us cry a little bit too much on the last day as we will be really sad to leave you. We hope to

come back and visit you someday soon,

Love from the Mexican crew.

Goodbye to the ‘Grads’ This term we also say goodbye to Miss Weir, Miss Hart and Miss Flannery, who all finish their time in the Boarding House @

Leweston at the end of this Summer Term. All have thoroughly enjoyed their time working in Junior, Middle and Senior House re-

spectively, be it for one year, like Miss Weir and Miss Hart, or four like Miss Flannery (who came as a Grad and is now a fully fledged

teacher!). As always, this year has been full of exciting adventures and ’never-dull’ moments, and they will be greatly missed by staff

and girls alike—good luck ladies!

So long and farewell to year 13!

“Everyone here is really caring and we feel like a family. I’ve had so much fun in the four years I've

been here!”

“Two years has never

gone so quickly; I can’t

imagine spending my Sixth

Form anywhere else!”

“The Boarding House has been

an insane and incredibly sup-

portive place to live and it’s

meant that my time at

Leweston has never been dull”

“Leweston Boarding Com-

munity has made me inde-

pendent and learn to think

more critically about what

kind of life I want to have;

thank you everyone! :)”

“My boarding life was wonderful and really helped me to meet friends at first! I’ll always

remember—“It’s already 8am!” Oops...again...but we did help Miss Fielding to win once because we weren’t the last table to

leave the dining room! Thank you—lots of love!!

“I enjoyed the trips on the weekend, Burns’ Night and Chinese New Year, and I will miss Leweston and all the friendly teachers!”

“Always knew, after all these years, there’d be so much laughter, there’d be tears. But never thought I’d walk away, with so much joy...it’s hard to say goodbye.” Miley Cyrus

“Time goes by quickly, two years have already passed. I still remember that feeling when I first came here, a bit excited, a bit nervous. But anyway,

I’ve had a very good time in Leweston.”

Year 12 Pilgrimage to Chideock P A G E 3

The pilgrimage was a perfect setting to reflect on this busy year in Lower

Sixth. It provided a good opportunity to spend time with everyone away from our busy

day-to-day life at Leweston, particularly for those who will not be with us next year.

Our night at Parnham House was a lot of fun and the delicious meal was enjoyed by all.

The walk did prove to be a little bit more challenging than we expected, resulting in lots

of nettle stings and scratches! Along the way, we sang hymns and had various times for

reflection and prayer. Due to the lively nature of our year, it was refreshing to be to-

gether in the beautiful Dorset countryside, enjoying the sunny weather. We were very

grateful for the hospitality shown by both Mrs Treichl and the ladies at Chideock Manor.

Cecilia Jennings, Year 12, Senior House Boarder

Strawberry Picking in the Sunshine!

We had a lot of fun on this trip. When we went to the strawberry field there were rows and rows of strawberries, we took a

bowl that was as big as our hand and filled it with strawberries, they were so sweet and delicious. Afterwards, we went to

Lulworth Cove on the bus to have ice cream. We went around the coast, it was amazing, we saw all different kinds of rocks,

people were climbing. We had a lot of fun, hope we get to do it again!

Crystal Leung and Chloe Suen, year 9, Middle House

First Holy Communion Celebrations

“On Sunday 15th June 2014, I had my First Holy Communion at

Leweston. I felt absolutely positively great and excited. I wore a white

dress with flowers and high heels and a jacket. All my family came to see

me receive my First Holy Communion. I had practised with Father Peter

and Mrs Worrall beforehand which was fun. Afterwards we all went for

tea in the Manor House and it was absolutely positively delicious! I had

a great day!”

Tig Hurndall, Year 4, Junior House Boarder

Some words from Miss Phipps... What a fabulous way to round off the year—we have been treated to some of the best weather for a long

time! We have had an amazing time on some of the weekend trips—a sunny boat trip around Brownsea Island with traditional English fish and chips for lunch on the quayside! ‘Camp Leweston’ was, as always, a great weekend, with many of the year 11s staying on after their GCSEs to enjoy the fun! The end of the Summer term is always tinged with sadness as we say goodbye to the girls who joined us for the year. They have enjoyed Leweston and made many

friends— I am sure there will be lots of tears when it comes to departure time! We also say a sad farewell to Miss Hart who has been a great addition to the Boarding team in Middle House, we wish her every success as she starts her PGCE. Have a wonderful Summer everyone!

Miss Gina Phipps, Middle House, Housemistress

Gaudere et bene facere Gaudere et bene facere Gaudere et bene facere

We went to Minterne Gardens and it was amazing. There were different kinds

of flowers and trees. We first walked around the gardens then we were given

some history about it. It dated back years ago which I found very interesting.

We had to go around the gardens again but in groups and our sketch pads. We

were given some time to draw and we came back and showed our drawings.

There were so many good drawings. After the gardens, we went for ice lollies

and squash at Mrs Robert’s house. After lollies, we put our feet in a cold stream

and it was freezing. After all that fun, we had to go back to Leweston. Everyone

was sad but it was great fun. We all hope we can go again.

Summer Term @ Leweston The Summer Term has been jam-packed full with wonderful trips and sunny seaside adventures at week-

ends, culminating in the annual Camp Leweston, sleeping out in the beautiful grounds and melting marsh-

mallows around the bonfire! Here’s a taster of what we’ve been up to this term in pictures….
