    The Blog Conference

Youve maintained a blog this semester, and now wed like to hear you talk about your work.

Beginning on Monday, December 9, I will meet with students during class in a 1:1 conference

lasting approximately 4-6 minutes. Each of us will have a laptop. You will be responsible for

    discussing the following topics:

Discuss your understanding of audience during this process. Did it develop slowly?Quickly? Emerge collectively through all your posts or instantly due to one particularpost? Was it ever an issue for you as you wrotea help or a hindrance? Use an example(or examples) from your blog to make your point.

Is writing in this medium reminiscent of other writing you have done or did it feel likeyou were really doing something new and different? Use examples when necessary.

Identify your one most successful post in terms of taking advantage of the opportunitiesthis medium has to offer.

Identify adversity you faced during the blogging processi.e. struggles withtechnology, composing a particular post, understanding what needed to be doneandexplain how you dealt with that adversity. What would you change? How did youhandle it correctly?

Blogging will continue next semester. What is a goal you have for yourself? Is itsomething you want to try? Something you hope to continue to do? Something youhope to start doing? Anything with reading other blogsin the class/outside of class?

To earn an A on the blog conference:

The best conferences are student-led; the teacher should have little need to move theconversation along. AnA conference demonstrates preparednesswhether its the orderof the discussion, the examples used, or the depth of understandingand should usethe time effectively, not just overall but for each answer. The level of reflection is at thehighest level for anA.

To earn a B on the blog conference:

These conferences are mostly student-led with some teacher guidance; students areprepared for all responses, but some show more depth and planning than others. Theseconferences demonstrate a high level of student reflection.

To earn a C on the blog conference:

These conferences require the teacher to move the dialogue along for a considerable partof the conversation. Student has prepared, but may struggle to find all examples oranswer all questions thoroughly. Time may be heading far over or a little under due tolack of strict preparation. The reflection occurs at a basic level with some insights.

To earn a D on the blog conference:

These conferences clearly lack preparation. This may be evident in the examples, timemanagement, and/or reflection.
