Executive Summary

DATA MANAGEMENT FACES A RADICAL TRANSFORMATION

As organizations and users become more dependent on cloud-based and other multi-party hosted services, there are escalating concerns about organizations’ and individuals’ data that revolve around veracity, consistency, availability, usage and general security.

The demand for next-generation information storage systems is that they are innately secure (via built-in cryptographic means) to support Zero Trust models of data operation.

Distributed ledger technologies (DLTs) such as block-chain that offer decentralized, cryptographically-secure data operation and storage capabilities are gaining in popularity, and they provide tremendous potential for use with open public and enterprise networks alike. DLTs are set to revolutionize the way we transact and perform operations – addressing the growing security and trust-less automation demands – of today’s online transactional processing ecosystems.

REQUIRED: NEXT-GEN DATA CONNECTIVITY

Given the evolving and esoteric nature of DLT systems, the ability to access, analyze and model data from these systems brings unique challenges for existing data connectivity strategies and solutions.

The growing adoption of blockchain and other offshoot DLT systems hinges on accessibility, operability and integration into existing environments, which require next-generation connectivity solutions. New connectivity solutions will enable existing SQL capable systems

(BI tools, ETL, Operational Business Applications) to seamlessly interface with these DLT systems that are non-SQL capable/compatible, without having the need to rewrite any of their layers.

WHITE PAPER DETAILS

The upcoming Simba white paper explores the opportunities for impact on data connectivity and analytics by DLTs including blockchain.

This white paper includes the following topics:

• Defining Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) and how cryptographically secure and immutable data systems can serve as the single source of truth for enterprises;

• An evaluation of use cases and actionable ideas for implementing DLT systems and their potential for revolutionizing the way industries, governments and institutions function;

• The data connectivity challenge and the need for DLT connectivity solutions that are business aware, configurable and adaptive relative to the changing technology of data stores;

• Examination of how blockchain-enabled data systems are driving the demand for new forms of analytics purposed toward fraud detection, predictive analytics, and perceptive learning, along with traditional needs of data exploration.

THE ERA OF DECENTRALIZED DATA OPERATIONS IS HERE.

This executive summary from Simba, a Magnitude company, summarizes our upcoming white paper that explores the potential of blockchain’s impact on data connectivity and analytics.

Simba Technologies, a Magnitude Company, is the industry choice for standards-based data access and analytics solutions, and for innovation in data connectivity. Our reputation as the connectivity pioneer means we’re the preferred partner for SDKs – ODBC and JDBC – and our technology is embedded into today’s most popular BI and analytics applications. A subsidiary of Magnitude Software, the unified data application management leader, Simba provides connectivity solutions that are pivotal to the vast operational efficiencies delivered by the Magnitude portfolio of products.

1) Nodes within the DLT system participate in transactions, perform operations, exe-cute smart contracts and store data within them: current relevant system state and historic data on ledger. These networked nodes are accessed through APIs specific to their frameworks. The Simba connectivity solution will facilitate uniform simplified ac-cess to node functionality and data access by providing standardized SQL interfaces.

2) Distributed Application Layer: The data stored by applications that are built to lever-age Distributed Ledger Technology is mod-eled to meet new paradigms introduced by decentralized operations and is exposed by application-specific APIs. The Simba connec-tivity solution at this layer will abstract APIs specific to business operations and present data that is accessible through simple stan-dardized SQL operations, along with stored procedures to run specific functions.

3) Orchestration and Administration Layer: Node provisioning, network orchestra-tion, authentication, security, and several administrative tasks are performed at the management layer of Distributed Ledger networks. The Simba connectivity solution at this layer will expose information about network traffic, node behavior patterns and system-level information to BI tools for advanced analytics and reporting.
