Air raids on London began in

September 1940. This was the start of

the Blitz. Lots of other places were

bombed, including industrial cities and

ports such as Birmingham, Coventry,

Southampton, Sheffield, Manchester,

Liverpool, Hull and Glasgow.

The March 10 raid represented a switch in U.S. strategy. Instead of bombing military targets on the Japanese mainland, U.S. forces set out to destroy entire cities. Two days after the Tokyo raid, U.S. bombers targeted Nagoya. Osaka was bombed the next day and Kobe four days later. The death toll from the raids is estimated in the range of 300,000.

Why Is It Called The Blitz

Blitz refers to the German bombing on British cities during World War Two. Blitz is called Blitz because it means a sudden, destructive and overwhelming attack. Blitz was a virtual institution that killed and frightened peopleand it made life much more than difficult.

Air raids were belongings to Germany. They were big and the only problem was that they ran pout of fuel very fast so they had to stop fighting until they had more fuel
