Blessed be God, Creator of Heaven and Earth. All creation sings your praises.

Hymn: Morning has brokenMorning has broken, like the first morning;blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning!Praise for them, springing fresh from the Word!

Sweet the rain’s new fall sunlit from heaven, like the first dewfall on the first grass.Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,Sprung in completeness where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight! Mine is the morningborn of the one light Eden saw play!Praise with elation, praise every morning,God’s re-creation of the new day!

A Reading from the Bible. Luke 15: 1-7Read by Courtney Moore, Volunteer and Fundraising Co-ordinator, SPCA.

Now all the tax-collectors and sinners were coming near to listen to him. And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, ‘This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them.’

So he told them this parable: ‘Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbours, saying to them, “Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.” Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance.

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people. Thanks be to God.

Prayers: The Lord’s Prayer:

As Christ teaches us we prayOur Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sinsas we forgive those who sin against us.Save us from the time of trialand deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever.   Amen.

The Prayer of St. Francis:Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith;Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; To be understood as to understand; To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Hymn: How great thou artDuring this hymn, a collection will be taken to support the work of the SPCA.

O LORD MY GOD! when I in awesome wonder Consider all the works Thy hand hath made, I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed:

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee,How great Thou art! How great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wanderAnd hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze;

Then sings my soul…

And when I think that God His Son not sparing, Sent Him to die—I scarce can take it in. That on the cross my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin:

Then sings my soul…

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamationAnd take me home—what joy shall fill my heart! Then shall I bow in humble adorationAnd there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art!

Then sings my soul…Stuart K. Hine. Copyright © 1953 Stuart K. Hine/Kingsway’s Thankyou Music.

~ The Dunedin Window ~Celebrating our local indigenous birds and animals

Take a moment to look at the Dunedin Window, located on the right-hand side of the Cathedral above the Nevill Chapel. The two central windows have a background of the Otago harbour and Peninsula hills across Harbour Cone to Aramoana and from the Pacific inlets to Victory Beach, and over these and around the two saints are examples of the prolific birdlife, animals and plants found here. If you look carefully you will find a bellbird, tui, morepork, kereru, pukeko, south island fantail, spoonbill, harrier hawk, white-faced grey heron, rifleman, NZ kingfishers, silvereyes, black and spotted shags, red-billed and black backed gulls, variable oystercatchers, Northern Royal albatrosses, white-fronted terns, little blue and yellow-eyed penguins, and Australasian pied stilts. There are two butterflies - Red Admiral and Copper. Of the animals there are two jewelled geckos, two fur seals and a sea lion; and of plants there are pingao (sand grass), pohutukawa, manuka, native clematis, kauri and the miki-miki on which the geckos feed.
