From the Principal’s desk…

This year has just zipped right by! As we close out the

school year, there are many things worthy of

celebration. Our school staff has worked extremely

hard to implement some of the new Common Core

State Standards and the use of formative assessments

to guide their instruction. We have also participated in

additional writing training to improve writing

instruction throughout our school! Additionally, we

have had over 480 walkthroughs in our classrooms

throughout this year through our partnership with the

District Support Team! Lastly, with a stronger focus

on the Standards, we have seen some incredible

growth academically in majority of our students.

When parents are involved, it makes a big difference!

I feel very blessed to work with such dedicated and

compassionate staff members, families, and students

at East Hill!

Over the summer, we want to make sure every child

continues to learn. As a result, we are putting together

some summer work packets for all current

Kindergarten—5th grade students. These work

packets, along with reading logs will be due Friday,

August 30th, which is the third day of school. Those

who finish all their work will be able to participate in

a fun-filled Ice Cream & Cookie Celebration in

September! Thank you again for your support with

this! Summer packets will only be given out to parents

who request a packet. Your child needs to return their

Summer Homework Packet request letter to their

teacher by Tuesday, June 11th!

Another newsletter will be sent home on June 18th

which will include 2013-2014 School Calendar. Thank you for making this year such a wonderful one

for all of us at East Hill! Have a great summer!

Warmly Yours,

Daxa Thomas, Principal
