The demands in this field are less for the record of information issued in a multiplicity of publication forms, but rather for the dissemination to a wide range of interested potential users-librarians, teachers, educationists, parents-of information about the full range of books which can be used with children and young people, and for the fostering of critical awareness and appreciation of their content. The Bibliographical Control of Children’s Books

COLIN RAY*

The theme of the General Council of IFLA in 1973, Universal biblio- graphical control, has special connotations in the field of children’s literature and librarianship. Mainly at the instance of librarians, a variety of means of achieving these objectives has been developed, and examples of different approaches were surveyed in the papers which follow.
