CLOTHING

Rend your hearts and not your garments.Return to the LORD, your God,

for he is gracious and merciful,slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love;

and he relents over disaster.J O E L 2 : 1 3

Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding ofhair, the wearing of gold, or the putting on of cloth-ing.

1 P E T E R 3 : 3

Show no partiality as you hold the faith in our LordJesus Christ, the Lord of glory. For if a man wearinga gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assem-bly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in,and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fineclothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” whileyou say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or,“Sit down at my feet,” have you not then made dis-tinctions among yourselves and become judges withevil thoughts?

COMMUNITY

For as in one body we have many members, and themembers do not all have the same function, so we,though many, are one body in Christ, and individu-ally members one of another.

R O M A N S 1 2 : 4 - 5

And all who believed were together and had all thingsin common.

A C T S 2 : 4 4

And let us consider how to stir up one another to loveand good works, not neglecting to meet together, asis the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

H E B R E W S 1 0 : 2 4 - 2 5

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into onebody—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all weremade to drink of one Spirit.

1 C O R I N T H I A N S 1 2 : 1 3

Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those whoweep.

CONFIDENCE

The LORD will be your confidence.P R O V E R B S 3 : 2 6

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angelsnor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, norpowers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in allcreation, will be able to separate us from the love ofGod in Christ Jesus our Lord.

R O M A N S 8 : 3 8 - 3 9

For you, O Lord, are my hope,my trust, O LORD, from my youth.

P S A L M 7 1 : 5

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hearsus. And if we know that he hears us in whatever weask, we know that we have the requests that we haveasked of him.

1 J O H N 5 : 1 4 - 1 5

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and coura-geous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dis-mayed, for the LORD your God is with you whereveryou go.”

J O S H U A 1 : 9

11

CONTENTMENT

[Jesus said,] “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxiousabout your life, what you will eat or what you willdrink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Isnot life more than food, and the body more thanclothing?”

M A T T H E W 6 : 2 5

Keep your life free from love of money, and be con-tent with what you have, for he has said, “I will neverleave you nor forsake you.”

H E B R E W S 1 3 : 5

I have learned in whatever situation I am to be con-tent. I know how to be brought low, and I know howto abound. In any and every circumstance, I havelearned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abun-dance and need. I can do all things through him whostrengthens me.

P H I L I P P I A N S 4 : 1 1 - 1 3

Now there is great gain in godliness with content-ment, for we brought nothing into the world, and wecannot take anything out of the world. But if we havefood and clothing, with these we will be content.

1 T I M O T H Y 6 : 1 2

For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has cho-sen you, because our gospel came to you not only inword, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit andwith full conviction. You know what kind of men weproved to be among you for your sake.

1 T H E S S A L O N I A N S 1 : 4 - 5

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, theconviction of things not seen.

H E B R E W S 1 1 : 1

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assuranceof faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evilconscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

H E B R E W S 1 0 : 2 2

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature iswasting away, our inner nature is being renewed dayby day.

13

By this we shall know that we are of the truth andreassure our heart before him; for whenever our heartcondemns us, God is greater than our heart, and heknows everything. Beloved, if our heart does not con-demn us, we have confidence before God.

1 J O H N 3 : 1 9 - 2 1

For I want you to know how great a struggle I have foryou and for those at Laodicea and for all who havenot seen me face to face, that their hearts may beencouraged, being knit together in love, to reach allthe riches of full assurance of understanding and theknowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ.

C O L O S S I A N S 2 : 1 - 2

For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has cho-sen you.

1 T H E S S A L O N I A N S 1 : 4

For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.

J O B 1 9 : 2 5

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angelsnor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, norpowers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in allcreation, will be able to separate us from the love ofGod in Christ Jesus our Lord.

But this is the covenant that I will make with thehouse of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: Iwill put my law within them, and I will write it ontheir hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall bemy people.

J E R E M I A H 3 1 : 3 3

But to all who did receive [Jesus], who believed inhis name, he gave the right to become children ofGod.

J O H N 1 : 1 2

But when the fullness of time had come, God sentforth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,to redeem those who were under the law, so that wemight receive adoption as sons.

G A L A T I A N S 4 : 4 - 5

Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, thefaithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast lovewith those who love him and keep his command-ments, to a thousand generations.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and theearth. The earth was without form and void, anddarkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spiritof God was hovering over the face of the waters.

G E N E S I S 1 : 1 - 2

So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall uponthe man, and while he slept took one of his ribs andclosed up its place with flesh. And the rib that theLORD God had taken from the man he made into awoman and brought her to the man.
