INFORMATION ABOUT POLANDPoland, officially the Republic of Poland,  is a country in Central Europe. It borders Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and Kaliningrad Oblast, the Russian exclave. It has access to The Baltic Sea. Poland has a population of over 38 million people. It is a member of the European Union and NATO.

The longest river is The Vistula at 1047 km in length. Major cities and towns along The Vistula River are: Cracow, Warsaw, Torun, Gdansk.

Warsaw is the capital and the largest city of Poland. It’s recovered from extensive damage of World War II during which 80% of its buildings were destroyed. It was rebuilt with the effort of many Polish citizens.

Cracow is the second largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. Its historic center was inscribed on the list of World Heritage Sites as the one of its kind. Cracow has traditionally been one of the leading centers of Polish academic, cultural and artistic life and is one of Poland's most important economic ones. It was the capital of Poland from 1038 to 1596.

Mazurek Dąbrowskiego

Dabrowski Mazurka Poland has not yet succumbed.

As long as we remain,What the foe by force has seized,

Sword in hand we'll gain.

March! March, Dabrowski!March from Italy to Poland!

Under your commandWe shall reach our land.

Cross the Vistula and WartaAnd Poles we shall be;

We've been shown by BonaparteWays to victory.

March! March, …

As Czarniecki Poznan town regains,Fighting with the Swede,

To free our fatherland from chains. We shall return by sea.

March!March!...

Father, in tears, says to his Basia: "Just listen,

It seems that our peopleare beating the drums."

TATRY Tatry are high mountains in the chain of the

Carpathians. The highest mountain is Rysy, which is 2499 m high. It is the best place for winter sports. There are many slopes which are best for snowboarding or skiing. In summer you can hike there. In these mountains you can find many rare plants or animals, for example Alpine marmot, chamois, mountain pine, crocus.

MAZURY „Mazury” is the name of a beautiful Polish

region. Sometimes is it called ”Kraina Tysiąca Jezior”, which means “The land of a thousand lakes”, because there are over 2000 lakes, including the biggest lakes in Poland: Śniardwy and Mamry. Most of its area, however, is covered by a forest. It’s a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. In the lakes and cannals connecting them can you sail, kayak, surf, windsurf, swim etc.

THE SEASIDE The Polish Baltic Sea’s coast is in the north of Poland

and constitutes the northern border. To begin with, one has to remember that frequent coldness is, in the first place, a stereotype. As for the climate there, it’s really mild and encouraging for tourists, also holidaymakers. Besides, the place is strongly connected with the Polish history. What I am getting at is that it was the subject of many armed conflicts between Poland and Teutonic Knights, Germany (Prussia) and even Pomerania’s inhabitants. Therefore, nowodays, one can see a lot of historical monuments there, for example Westerplatte or Gdansk’s Post Office. Furthermore there are plants which germinate only there, which means one can’t see them anywhere else in Poland. This is the reason why they are protected species, albeit photographing or looking isn’t punishable. To my mind, we, Poles should be proud of so beautiful area like that.

BIALOWIEZA FOREST The Bialowieza Forest is a symbol of Poland’s natural

wealth and diversity. The international experts recognized its unique value and the Bialowieza National Park was included in The UNESCO’s World Heritage List as well as on The UNESCO’s List of World Biosphere Reserves. It is situated along the border between Poland and Belarus and boasts of wide array of wildlife and fauna, including Europe’s heaviest land mammal, the Wisent, a type of European Buffalo (called in Polish “żubr”) that roam the forest. These animals, as well as other species, are protected.
