Change Concepts
A change concept is a general notion or
approach to change that has been found to be
useful in developing specific ideas for changes
that lead to improvement.
Terminology
Testing – small tests of change
Measurement – repeated small samples
over time
Segmentation – work to improve individual
components of complex processes
Reliability – processes need to be
designed in to the system
Change Package
• Recommended changes developed as part of the IHI Learning and/or Innovation Community on Reducing Mortality and Harm.
• All of these changes are evidence-based.
• Reported in the scientific literature or have been tested and proven successful in practice.
• Changes related to reducing healthcare-associated infections have been developed in various IHI programs and initiatives and similarities may exist among the different suggested improvement ideas.
