Double Pitcher

Contests

Every team will be offered a space every edition of the Newsletter to submit something funny... write about their game... whatever...and since we’re doing a newsletter every Wednesday of every week, you have plenty of time to come up with something! If your team doesn’t submit anything, and isn’t in the newsletter, talk to your captain!

Ideas for Team Submissions When I say, submit something for your team, here are some ideas: • Play by plays of the game • Document the debauchery at the bar - i.e. describing someone’s amazing acting skills hobbling across the bar with a “sprained ankle” just to Ice a teammate. ] • Draw pictures!!!!! • Favorite quotes, poems, song lyrics, movie scripts, YouTube video, or motivational speeches! • Email chains from the morning after . • Funny pictures of you, your team, or something random on the internet • Give your team member awards - drunkest, loudest, person with the least shame, best off the face catch, etc.! • Anything. Really. Someone on your team is creative.

Submissions are due EVERY Tuesday by 7 p.m.

Backyard Sports Club’s email is

[email protected]. I look forward to working with all of you!

** If you need extra time, email me and just let me know.

DISCLAIMER: if you have problems with keeping your language in check, not bashing refs, being overly nasty to other teams, and other no-no’s, the Editor does have the right to not include your write up in the newsletter if the content is deemed inappropriate or out of line. We will try to screen write ups as they are received, will try to let teams know so that they have time to resubmit, but there is no guarantee. The easiest thing to do is to keep it clean, be nice, and remember this is all in good fun.

The Untouchables Well...so far our team really isn't living up to our name 'The Untouchables'. We got spanked in game one against Menace to Sobriety and then slightly redeemed ourselves in game two against Rings Around Uranus. While we comprise of some pretty stellar athletes, we're pretty much clueless when it comes to strategy, throwing a dodgeball, dodging a dodgeball, staying within the lines, and overall knowledge of the rules! No biggy! :-) The most memorable play of the night occurred when captain Scott R. let a bullet fly directly off of fellow teammate Whitney S.'s face in warm-ups. That pretty much set the tone for what would soon follow! Stay tuned. We can only go up from here!!!

- BKR

Menace to Sobriety

Another week in the books and yet another victory for Menace 2 Sobriety. It was pretty much a group effort in this victory with everyone picking up some slack do to having to play a girl down as Courtney recovered from her tonsils surgery (or so she says, we all still think she had to get that laser hair surgery on her back taken care of finally). Compared to week 1 we all were very much more in tune as new teammates have meshed together very very good. Each of us knows where our strengths and weaknesses are and that alone will put us in the top spot in this league. The only thing we lacked this week was the showing at the bar afterwards but Sarah R, Amber, and myself drank enough for the whole team and danced our bootys off. In closing, good luck to the rest of the league fighting for 2nd place!

- Craig Horsley

Page 7: "The Bench" 2nd Edition

Stranger Danger

Well, despite the devastating loss to FSR, we're definitely learning each other as a team. The season started with two tough games, and hopefully we'll catch a break soon. We might not have won on the field, but we're definitely ready to represent at the bar every week!

- Tom “SheetKan” Zuppke

FSR

FSR came into this match with their chests puffed out like they just got out of the gym (even though none of them even know where that is). A strong victory in Week 1 brought them into this match very confident about their star players Joseph Cashwell (JC) and James Wilcox (Harry Potter). The beginning started out pretty even between the two teams until newcomer Chelsea toppled Stranger Danger Captain Tom Zuppke in a last minute 1v1. Team FSR shows some great potential so far in the early stages of this league.

Troop 417 Time to recognize my fantastic teammates for their valiant effort on Friday with the following awards: • Best dodging award: Shaun • Best follower of strategy award: Mitch • Female laser arm award: Erin S. • Male laser arm award: Kyle • Most likely to have my back in a dodgeball brawl award: Hern • Best hands award: Rachel • Most encouraging in the face of defeat award: Linda • Best sportsmanship awards: Steph & Brooke • Female MVP of the night: Tyler • Male MVP of the night: JC HUGE thank you to my refs: Hern, Steph, Brooke and Linda. You guys took much more abuse than necessary and hung in there.

- Erin Freeman

Honey Badger Don’t Care

Woop Woop Team Honey Badger Don't Care for another win this week!!! It was a great match, Troop 417 was fun to play against, and we partied hard to celebrate the win at Crazy

Wing afterwards! Welcome to the team Travis and Jackie!!! - a dynamic husband and wife duo that got my vote for MVP of last week's games - Travis had a couple last man standing games where he pulled out wins each time! Learning lots of new things about my new teammates and finding a lot of similarities - we love shots and we love to dance like fools! LOL Hope the rest of the team can join us this

week at Crazy Wing/Eagle's Nest!!! Team Rings Around Uranus...we'll see you Friday night on the dodgeball court!

- Sarah Harsche

Page 9: "The Bench" 2nd Edition

Sloppy Seconds

What a great game from both teams. Even though we lost a close one. All i got to say is that no pre-drinking before games....water and Gatorade for now on. My team did a great job and hope to improve as the season goes on.

- Jon Reyes

Rings Around Uranus

In our first game of the night, we came out STRONG! We met up with Sloppy Seconds, whom we did not want to take lightly. We knew that if we wanted to win, we had to go out there focused and do what we all

know how to do, Kick Some “Anus.” The game started off good, where both teams were winning one here, one there. But then the arguments (between the 2 teams and amongst the refs) started to heat the game up! Again, this could be because of a combination of the league being new, not everyone knowing the rules, and the refs not seeing everything (which they will not be able to see every little thing). But the most important thing was that we held it together, and became victorious with something like a 7-3 win (give or take one or two). I would like to give shout outs to Danny Songer and Jon Teach! It was

their first night out at dodge ball, and they were really lead our team in this victory! Job Well Done Guys!!!

- Nicky LeBlanc

Page 10: "The Bench" 2nd Edition

Rings Around Uranus Our second game of the night was against one of the more dominant teams in the league. We were exhausted (as we had 5 girls, and 1 of them was injured) but we knew we had to still come out strong against Charm and the gang! The game started off great, with both teams remaining pretty close in score, until we started to fall apart. There was a little arguing, but nothing that would have GREATLY affected the game’s outcome. The score was 5-4, and we just started to break down. Charm’s team continued to remain strong and they were, at this point, the more dominant team. By this time, they were definitely "Untouchable!" LOL!

- Nicky LeBlanc

The Untouchables After playing our first set of games against MTS, we were beat. Especially our girls! We were down to only 4 girls to play , so that means no subs for us. We had Jennie off on her honeymoon (why couldn’t you leave on Saturday or Friday after our games?!?! Jk) Casey hurt her foot while at the bars (no more going out for you, you’re on restriction until after Dodgeball season is over), and then we had Susan who napped through our games (No napping! Drink some 5-hour Energy, girl!) Luckily, we had Caroline…she beasted it through all of the games as the last woman standing! How she did it, I have no clue! I would have just stood still and been like, ok please hit me so I can catch my breath. But we had fun playing against RAU. They had some pretty strong arms on that team. I didn’t know Barcus had an arm, I knew he could kick the $hi out of the ball, but I was shocked to see these 45 mph balls whiz pass my face. Great job to both teams, we hope to play ya’ll again!

- Charm Reyes

Page 11: "The Bench" 2nd Edition

Bing-Bongs and Chick-A-Dees

I don’t know which team has the most hot headed player of the league, mine or Jon’s. Between Ronnie and JR., I was pretty certain that one of them would start throwing blows

Sloppy Seconds

Wow. Double headers is no fun. I was tired. We played well but ran out of steam in the head. BB and CaD played well and had a great game plan by trying to gather all the balls on their side of the court. Well played. We look forward to seeing you guys again.

- Jon Reyes

before the game was over. C’mon guys, it’s just dodge ball! Let’s leave our attitudes off the turf and have fun! Don’t let the foam balls get you all worked up! All in all, it was a pretty great game! We were ahead, Sloppy was ahead, then we were ahead again. It was back and forth for awhile, but in the end, Bing Bongs were able to get that win. God, what a feeling! We beat JON’s Team! Yay!

- Stella Solorzano

Page 12: "The Bench" 2nd Edition

Hit It & Bounce

WE SLAUGHTERED THEM! In the last game.

But really... They might have won slightly more games (I blame James's head-mounted laser sight... Camera?? Psh!), but we definitely lost more blood and took WAAAAAAY more face-shots. Look out for these guys, I'm fairly sure they kill kittens & babies in their spare time... We had a blast playing you guys, though! Love you mean it!

Tiger Blood So, while I was at the Pre-Plunge taking some great pics of our fellow dodgeballers, I noticed Heidi had a head cam. A light bulb lit up! Why not use it during Friday's games.

GENIUS! I'm not sure if I got any footage yet but I looked and felt like the Terminator with the LAAA-ZER. Anyways, enough about me and more about my team. We had one strategy...AIM FOR FACE!!! It worked out well and I believe we hit one person four times with that rule. Sorry Becki...we didn't mean to. My team was fearless...just knocking people left and right like the metal ducks at the amusement park. All I heard was...

PA-TING, here...PA-TING there. Nick "Cannon...not to be confused with Mariah's boo" Jones was the All-Star of the evening. Nicky Dewey finally got her first kill! It was 18-1 with Hit-It and Bounce winning the last match. It was a fun game for everyone and we were able to fit 19 games within the time period.

The Hookup Hmmm…what can be said about Matt Barcus that is in any way appropriate to publish in this newsletter? Ok, this one may be short! He is a fireman by day and by night, there’s no telling what he is or what he does. Barcus is a complete anomaly to most. How he gets whole teams from a different state to follow everything he does and dress in Jersey Shore gear is so amazing to me! But anytime you’re around Baby Barcus a good time is sure to be had. He’ll make damn sure of that! A few things about him you should know: He loves to wear speedos, he loves to chase boys around wearing his speedos, you may even see him kiss a boy or two in his speedos…oh and keep an eye out for other girls trying to make a move on him…his stache really attracts the ladies!

The Dos and DONTs

• DO NOT bring alcoholic beverages to Chilled Ponds. They have a bar there for you to purchase drinks.

• DO clean up after yourselves! Unfortunately, maid service was cut out of Backyard

Sports Club’s budget due to the economy. • DO be friendly to the Refs: Please do not yell at them…just remember, you’re the one

that will look like a jerk if you yell at them. • DO NOT be “that guy.” When you do something stupid, you’re not excluded from any

laws just because you are wearing a Backyard Sports Club t-shirt. • DO NOT leave a fellow dodgeballer behind; we take care of our own. Don’t let your

teammate drink like a champ and drive home. Find the closest decent looking guy/gal, introduce them, and have them go home together.

• DO NOT be bitter. It’s super important that if you end up having a “sleep over” with a

fellow dodgeballer, be cool with them for weeks to follow. We’re a small community, you’re gonna end up seeing them all season! When they drop you off at your car, hug it out, smile…and say “hi” the following week.

• DO NOT try to guess that persons name! • DO go to our sponsor Bar, Eagles' Nest Country Rockin' Bar and Crazy Wing Cantina. It’s

what the cool kids are doing. • DO NOT fight! This is a fun league, HAVE FUN! If you fight, fun’s over for you, you’ll be

kicked out. • DO always wear your Backyard Sports Club shirt. I know laundry once a week may be

too much, so it’s cool if you go a couple weeks without washing….unless you’ve got bad B.O. like Robbie Wright!

• DO NOT smoke in Chilled Ponds!

**DISCLAIMER** Nothing in the Backyard Sports Club Newsletter is to be taken seriously, except for the schedules and scores! Please send scores, recaps, pictures, questions, funny quotes, and/or any information that you would like to be added into the week’s newsletter to [email protected]
