At the start of each year, the Belham asks you for your generous voluntary contributions to the school fund. The voluntary contribution scheme is vital for the school to be able to provide many extra-curricular activities for our children, as well as enriching our in-school provision. Whilst we are currently not in a position to be able to do all of the usual exciting activities that the children have come to love and look forward to, we are still planning creatively in order to enhance the learning experience for our Belhamites, ensuring a broad and balanced ‘glittering’ curriculum, fulfilling our school vision. Even though there has been an absence of school trips this year, we have continued to enrich our curriculum in many other ways, including inviting visitors to the school, online workshops and talks, sporting and musical tuition, activities, and resources (above and beyond the statutory requirements), and the purchase of additional resources for the classroom to ensure that lessons are practical and engaging. Whole school events, such as the art exhibition and our themed weeks, have all been bolstered by these contributions. These are tough times, no doubt, and we are most grateful for all contributions as they allow us to continue to provide the best learning opportunities for our pupils. A letter will be sent to parents at the start of next week with further details. I would like to say a big thank you in advance for any donations that you are able to make. YEAR 4 – EXPLORING MOOD IN BEOWULF

POEM OF THE WEEK

Look out for our feature ‘Poem of the Week’ coming to you every week, once again, in the Belham Buzz. Each week we will include a short poem for you and your family to read and enjoy. Our teachers would love to see Belhamites reading the poem aloud and performing it with their own special touches. If you would like to send your child’s performance poetry to their class teacher, you can upload it to their ClassDojo portfolio. This week’s poem of the week reflects the themes of the natural world and fantasy. Read it aloud with the children and encourage them to recite part or all of it, using rhythm and expression to bring it to life. They could even add actions and perform it in role as the ‘King of the Dinosaurs!’

Lockdown gallery - Ice decorations

Peter (year 2) & little sister Imogen made ice decorations last week, inspired by the Creative Reflection and Imogen’s Okido magazine. “We collected various colourful organic items (flowers, leaves, seeds, fruit) and put them in a cupcake tray, with a piece of string; added water; and froze them. The resulting decorations lasted for a morning outside on our bare tree.”

Please share your own creations! We would love to be able to share more home creations and works of art that you have made, so if you have any images we can share please email them to [email protected]

FRIENDS OF BELHAM RECIPES

#2: CREAMY TOMATO SOUP By Linda Condron

Introduction:

This is a really easy soup to make and a favourite with the kids in our house. It can easily be suitable for veggis or vegans if you substitute the chicken stock pot. Great served with nice fresh bread for lunch (or garlic bread for a treat). You can freeze what you don’t need for another day or it will keep in the fridge for 2 days.

Good for:

Children to eat

Vegetarians (with adaptation)

Vegan (with adaptation)

Ingredients (serves 6 - 8)

1 onion 3 cloves garlic Olive oil 3 carrots 2 sticks of celery Chicken stock pot/cube (Or vegi/vegan alternative) 220ml boiling water 8/9 large ripe tomatoes 1 tin chopped tomatoes 200ml (1/2 tin) Coconut milk Fresh Basil (if you have it)

Method

1. Chop the onion and garlic and add to a large pot with some olive oil. Start to sweat them on medium heat.

2. Chop the carrot and celery and add to the pot. Cook on medium heat for 10 mins.

3. Add the boiling water and stock pot (or crumble a cube in) to the pot.

4. Chop the tomatoes in half (you don’t need to remove the core) and add these and the tin of tomatoes to the pot. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Do not be tempted to add more water. The coconut milk is coming.

5. Add the basil and coconut milk to the pot and cook on low heat for 5 mins.

6. Blend until smooth. 7. Add salt and pepper to taste.

If you have clothes to sell, fill in the form

below. Clothes must be clean and honestly

described.

Koru Kids offer code

Rethinking that “I don’t need childcare” thing? Koru kids are offering £50 to FoB and £50 to Belham families when they match with a nanny through their service. Use the code SC1BELHAM in the "how did you hear about us?" section (this is really important otherwise it won't be logged).
